Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's recent annoucement reguarding the changes in the rates for Illinois' tollway users becomes effective Jan 1, 2005. These changes will effect all Illinois users of all the tollway system but, especially those with-out I-Pass service.

Illinois' tollway rate changes effective Jan 1

The full slate of rate changes are availible in the above link.

Some Examples of the changes:

I-294: O'hare Toll: $.75 (I-Pass) $1.00 Non-I-pass users Anyone from the Southwest Suburbs will utilize this facilty heading both North and South.

I-294 Touhy Toll: $.50 (I-Pass) $1.00 non-I-pass users. Also if you utilized the Ohare toll, you will have to pay here as well.

Northern Illinois/ Southeastern Wisconsin Residents: I-90 Wakeguan Toll North and South $.75 (I-Pass) $1.00 non-I-Pass.

These tollway changes greatly effect NON-I-PASS users, Wisconsin Residents and Truck Drivers. Consult the PDF. grid above for exact fares.

I-Passes are sold at Chicagoland Jewel-Osco Stores and cost $50.00 (40.00 in tolls and 10.00 for a deposit.)

My parents are getting I-pass because we travel a lot. It is obvious that Illinois wants it to eventually be mostly I-pass.

Mike was misunderstood in the charts of the new toll rates.

All autos without I-Pass will see the current tolls double. All autos with I-Pass won't see a change in toll rates.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

A little Poll happy are we Mike?

No, most of the time I will just drive through the Ipass lanes without an Ipass.

And I don't think its that big of a deal. Gas prices keep going up so I guess we all have been paying more all along.

Hey, I thought I heard a while back that IL was getting rid of the tolls? I guess I have to get Ipass too. The Gov must not like Indiana peeps. Every time I go to Great America it costs me an arm and a pint of blood for the blasted tolls and I don't even see the potholes and rough spots being fixed. What a crock!
Candy: What you lookin' at?
Otis B. Driftwood: I'm lookin' at you, mama.
Candy: Yeah, you see something you like?
Otis B. Driftwood: Maybe. I set my standards pretty low, so I'm never disappointed.

It will actually cost less for me next year because I'll just start taking 41 instead of 94. I don't care so much about the money, I'm just annoyed by all the ploys to try and get people to use IPASS.

Jason: If you are serious in that you blow off tolls, take note that they are cracking down on this. Cameras recording license plate numbers are everywhere on the tollbooths.

Yeah that really wouldnt be the greatest of ideas... The State of Illinois is in a huge budget shortfall. And Illinois finest wont hesitate to slap a 500 dollar fine on you.

Scott, Im serious I do skip through the IPASS lanes, but my car is registered as having an IPASS in it so they most likely wont send me a fine in the mail and if a cop does happen to get me then I will claim to have forgotten that I didnt have the IPASS.

Don't blame the I-PASS when you get fined hundreds of dollars. My mom and dad have I-PASS's in both of their cars.
How much longer can I last until Opening Day! ARRRRGH!

Does anyone know what the "I" stands for in I-Pass? (I pass you, Illinois pass, interstate pass)

Anyways, I know Jewel gives you $40 in free tolls and a $10 deposit when you buy the transponder for $50, so you might want to get one there.

My parents have one and we have the velcro in both cars, so they switch it around, but half the time they forget to switch it, so i think we're getting a second one.

I think Illinois would be a better pick. Just because You're on an Interstate in Illinois doesn't mean you're going to pay tolls. You can still avoid tolls in Chicagoland on I-55,I-57,I-190, and I-290 and every Interstate south of here except I-80.

Heck, I don't see what the big deal is....I live in Iowa and have an IPASS. As often as I'm in the Chicago area it's worth it, especially since you just have to slow down a little for the toll plaza's.

The first couple coming from Iowa (Dixon and Dekalb) on I-88 kind of suck though. They have dedicated IPASS lanes but you still have to come to almost a complete stop. It still shaves off lots of travel time not having to wait in those other lines.

We got an IPASS over a month ago, and I think it's much better than having to wait in those somewhat long lines sometimes for the toll booths.
