Bring Back The Space Section

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Awhile go when Space Shuttle America was the new ride, the sign before you get there said something about space (I can't remember.). They moved Sky Trek Tower's line to the other side in the space area to fit it.

It makes sense having Sky Trek Tower and Space Shuttle America in a space area. Then the go-karts came and ruined it. If the Orbit were moved over there and some other ride came to replace SSA, it would be once what it was planned to be.

I thought SSA was a part of the space theme. Do you mean a new movie, or completely new ride? :?

It was just so cool when it first opened when both those rides were part of the "space area". Now, SSA has changed so much because no one wants to see the same movie for 10 years. To revive the area, another "space" ride would help do this instead of it.

I dont remeber that ever being considered a space area. I always thought it was an area to put random rides.

SSa Dinosaur ride was in 3D. The sign that I'm talking about was where you enter now. Now, it says something with Go-Karts. Someone should know what the "Space" name was.

Since I didn't explain this to much about STT, I'll tell you. STT entrance used to be connected to front entrance walkway on the right side of course. Now, you have to go under the sign to get to it. They did that so you would walk in the "space" area.

For some reason the name "Spaceport Plaza" popped into my mind. I never remember it being space themed, but I remember that name from somewhere. I have seen pictures with Sky Treck's entrance on the right side of the front walkway. Also I remember that "sign" you are referring to having the SSA logo on one side, the STT logo on the other side, and the go-karts sign that is there today in the middle. Now the SSA and STT logos are gone, and they have checkered flags. It looks like that is the entrance to only the go-karts. I bet that it confused many people.

The only "space" theme that ever happened over there and continues today is the massive open "space" in that area.

That area was never planned to be a separate themed land. It's basically an extension of Carousel Plaza.

Was most of that section originally parking lot, or was it landscaping?

That area needs something new. And it needs some better landscaping. There not going to bring back a space theme because they dont want to spend money on a new ride and ssa sucks. Its not disneyland. Have you ever been back all the way to the go carts? Have you ever seen how many switchbacks there are over there for ssa? They should rip those out and plant a ton of trees there. The section is wide open and ugly and I think that they need to plant a ton of pine trees and flowers and make the section really nice so that you dont feel like your in the parking lot. They should give the section a classic amusement park feel like kennywood. It wouldnt be hard because right next to it is the carosuel. If they gave the section a lot of landscaping, a more organized traffic pattern, and some more old fashoned amusements like a parachute drop or a flat ride to go along with the go carts, the section would flow beautifully out of carosuel plaza, and would look great in time for a new coaster.

That would be really cool though if they put all the old rides there like a sky ride, and a haybayler style attraction back in that corner between the space shuttle and the sky trek tower.

SSA and the Go-Karts were parking lot before. I guess you don't remember the "space" trucks and the satellites. They even had "space" music. They messed up that section just so they could make money. I considered that a section before because it's like Camp Cartoon Network and the Bugs Bunny area. They are not big areas, just mini-sections. Now, it just doesn't seem right when you enter the park and see that section. It just doesn't seem the same.

The sad thing is that I waited through all those the year it opened.
When's the last time they have been used?

Space has nothing to do with "Great America". Also, those trucks and satellites are still there. At least 1 truck is.

I think they should just make it have no theme and just make it feel like a beautiful amusement park by planting tons of pine trees behind ssa and going across the back of the go carts, as well as along the side wall of the ssa building. They need a centerpiece too. Maybe a fountain, maybe some trees in the big open gap between where you come in and ssa's enterence, and maybe something really cool like the six flags sentrerpiece that doubled as a stage at gav a few yeard back. They could put those jets on the cement too that shoot up and kids can play in it.

They should just turn that area into a 50's beach party theme water park.

With all these ideas of this area, I just had one myself. :)

They should just put all the upcharge attractions in that area kind of like CP does. Move the trampoline, rock climbing wall, and Dare Devil Dive over there. Go-Karts obviously dont need to move. They have plenty of open space.

Now you have 3 spots open for future flat rides. :)

^That is not a bad idea. If they did that, they should move the STT entrance to its original spot because it is not a pay attraction.

Wouldn't people avoid that area even more than they do now?

People don't avoid the area. It's just that there aren't any high capacity rides in the area that are a draw. It brings enough people over there for the rides currently in the area. Just so you know, the Go-Carts are very popular and bring in a lot of money for the park. They would be gone by now if they didn't. Isn't the goal of the park to make money by keeping people happy. It is sort of working both ways.

I think most people do avoid the area but not on purpose, I mean I know that if I paied $42 to get into the park I wouldn't waste my time with STT or a motion simulator.

Or pay more money for Go-Karts.

I think the area would look really cool with a lot of landscaping and a sky sling upcharge attraction like at gadv. Then we can get a new coaster between the go-carts and ssa.
