Whizzer rehab?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Iggy ACE on May 2nd, 2004, 7:10 pm
Did anybody notice that the Whizzer trains are getting redone? When I went on it saturday I noticed that it got new paint and new upholstery. It looks amazing. How many trains are done and possibly is a new paint job in order?
Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!

Yes I noticed that as well, new padding inside the train and it looked like they were repainted. They looked amazing!

I think they're still doing the 3rd train because only 2 of the cars were on the other track today. but yes, i definatly agree that it looks a lot nicer now!

They must be because yesterday there was only one car on that track.

They rehabbed another train 2 years ago, so now 2 trains are "rehabbed". On opening day the 2 rehabbed trains were running, though the other one was showing wear and tear accumulated in the past 2 years and didnt look all that new, but it did run well. Looked like they were putting the 3'rd train on the tracks with only one on the transfer and the other 3 cars under the ride. If I got it right Trains 3 and 4 were running, 1 was on the transfer and 2 would be in storage this year and/or getting rehabbed.

It's great that they are staying on top of this last of a kind treasure.

Hopefully Whizzer sticks around for years to come.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

Wait so each roller coaster has an extra train. How does that work?

Not every coaster does. This allows them to have a train ready to go if one breaks down, or goes down for a rehab, thats all.

As far as I know only Whizzer and Eagle have spare trains as they both used to run more than they currently do (Eagle used to run 3 trains per track, and Whizzer originally ran 5, though one was demoted to parts a long time ago). Now on Whizzer is seems fairly random, with the renovations being a recent thing, but all along they wil run 2 trains on each side of Eagle with the 3'rd in rehab, so every year there will be a "brand new" train added while another is removed and goes through that process, though last year and it seems this year also the 3'rd train wasnt ready in time, so the same 2 run from the previous year til June or so.

Notice how in 2002 Black & Red were running on Demon, then 2003 Black & Yellow were running, now in 2004 Yellow & Red are running. Rarely 3 trains are run.
Similar to that.

I really hope that Whizzer is next on the 'list' of things to paint. One of my friends who is in no way a coaster nut even said....

"They should have repainted this one instead of Batman."

And I couldn't agree with her more. On Whizzer, there is more rust than there is green!
Finally Coaster Season!!

After riding it numerous times on Opening Day I agree, after the first 15 seconds of the ride (after the lift) are completeted, you can barely see any green.
