New For 2025 - Wrath of Raksasha

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

WRATH OF RAKSHASA trademarked by Six Flags 5/28/24
"RAKSHASA are a race of (usually) malevolent beings prominent in Hindu mythology" - Wiki (ok, backstory is like whaaa?)

Please add what I missed.
The banner set up in the park that reads “shedding skin” makes me wonder if they plan on doing a full on refurbishment on Demon. New paint, trains, new rock work, lights, etc. The “Looks can be deceiving” banner may refer to the fact that the speculated plot of land (Buccaneer Battle) seems super tiny for a new major addition. Maybe they’re going to reinstall Deja Vu haha

Banner 1:

"Looks can be deceiving" in MG now just seems intended to throw people off re location of a new ride

Banner 2:

"Shedding Skin" implies a Demon refurb or that it's somehow included (it lies through the Demon's eyes) but the demo of BB and the flat site, the construction markers point to the entire area.

As far as Roaring Rapids goes, I saw this extensive vid by a park mechanic. I had no idea the level of expense/parts procurement/scale of operation. If the park invested millions in a refurb as metioned here I don't think it's going away: https://youtu.be/8Nbwkjmqrcg?si=7sd1pr617IPYsiLw

Going a little off-topic here, wasn't it actually called Hilltopper?

Dive coaster is too basic unless they try to make it fit with the theming. Also, i think most enthusiasts can go to Cedar Point for theirs
Old Great America was better, however I hope just a bit of that charm comes back

Bah, as an enthusiast, I’ll say that I hate that I have to drive 6 hours to CP to experience a dive or 4 hours to experience any coaster that has a beyond-90 degree drop for that matter. I’ve done the 6-hour drives from my location to MOA for Rock Bottom Plunge and to CP for Valravn and both of them sucked. Ain’t no way I’m paying for plane tickets these days unless I’m going to the west/east coasts. If the park followed my Midnight Flight Idea, they could paint a half of the ride dark colors and it would fit in right next to Demon. Plus, like Coaster Justin said, they could just make the area a sub-area of County Fair.

IF it is a coaster, I hope they go higher than 200 feet of Raging Bull.
They could take the height record from Yukon Striker and still be under the Gurnee height limit.

IF (& this is a big if) it ends up being a dive coaster, my hopes lie in it being unique. That's literally ALL I care about. I'd love for it to do something no other has before or break the record or even be a smaller dive with a custom layout but I do not want it to be a clone. Our park deserves more than that. SFGAm has had quite a great collection of custom coasters in recent years with XF, Goliath, & The park needs its own identity, it doesn't need something someone else can get somewhere else. Cmon now ;)

STORY TIME: It's funny we're even having the convo & I brought this up on FB. A dive coaster has been rumored here practically since Oblivion was open at Alton Towers. Both AT & SFGAm have a great partnership with B&M. Back when I attended XFlight's media day, I talked with Claude from B&M, which was amazing he was even there. He told me they thought about a dive coaster going from the Déjà Vu plot & crossing over or under to the SWF site where XF now is. Which was probably discussed way before they decided to go with Bucc Battle. However, they thought going with a new product would have better marketability. This all blew my mind cause while I was more than pleased we had XF, I grew up always thinking a dive coaster would be epic at SFGAm. Now back in 2008, I was a dumb teen who decided to wear this shirt in protest of Déjà Vu being removed that read "RIP DÉJÀ VU $%#! this, we're going to Cedar Point!" & Hank (RIPto that wonderful man) looked at me & said "I've heard about this shirt today... I promise you what goes in that plot next year will be an inspiration to burn that shirt or toss it out. Would you do that if it was a good replacement for Déjà Vu?" & I said alright you have a deal. Then Buccaneer Battle went in & I was like that liar! LOL & he told me things were on hold when I wore it that year in 2009 but he promised me it was coming. So it really makes me wonder what was discussed from 2007/2008-2011/2012 for the park in that plot. But I promised him come 2012 I never would wear it ever again. Haha So to have a good dive here would do Hank justice & really probably bring tears to my eyes. It would all just come back full circle.

Valravn was my first dive ever in 2019 and I was amazed by it! We got almost 10 rides on it in 2 days! I rode Sheikra last year and it was good too. Griffon was closed this year when I went to BGW so I never got to experience the wider train.

As for our potential new Dive coaster being unique: How about 5 inversions to go with the height, drop and speed records?

Gottastrata how do you always get to do the Media Days?? Do you "know people" lol?

I agree with the Dive needing to be unique. As good as Dr. Diabolical’s layout is, I don’t want a clone. Especially not for an occasion as grand as our 50th. However, I also hope that they don’t screw up the construction timeline like Flash at SFGAdv. As of typing, their 50th Anniversary coaster still has not opened and it’s already late July. By August, GP are already focused on school and have made their amusement park trips. I hope that whatever is coming opens up by July 4th weekend at the latest.

I have the opposite feeling when it comes to dive coasters. Rose valravn and sheikra and was completely bored with both. For me, it’s a park eater though. So I’m all aboard!

I think we may want to start considering this being a Demon overhaul or refurb. I'd like to be incredibly wrong here but that symbol has been translated to 6 on a great America FB fan page. If 2 more show up with 666 then I'm gonna be more skeptical it's about demon rather than a new ride.

Actually I hope you’re right. I’ve ridden all of the North American B&M dives except 2, but I’ll ride Iron Menace in a few weeks. It’s not the elite coaster the park needs. And the dive coaster as a whole is pretty boring in comparison to their other models.

I’d prefer a B&M Giga even though I also would like to go to the moon. I don’t see either happening.

Haha ugh sadly, agree. The park would do sooo well with a giga. It's def what we need in this park. Taller, faster & bigger than anything the park has with great capacity & something that will bring people in from all over.

No, what this park needs is to go back to theming and family rides, this park has alot of potential in that field, and i don't think we need a giga or another coaster in general.

A sky screamer would fit nicely too

We are pretty much a coaster park though whether we admit it or not. SFGAm has always been known for that & as the record shows, we have become not only spoiled in getting a coaster much more often than most parks out there but we have come to expect it. Which is why so many are convinced 2025 is the new coaster year.

With that said, yes the park needs many things. From coasters to beautification. If you've been on this forum a long time, you can go back & see how I've talked about a family coaster, getting another kiddie coaster, a sky screamer, new restaurants, fixing up old structures, repaints to rides & buildings, fountains in the reflection pool, a new entrance (that's finally happening) etc. there's soooo much that's needed & even more that's wanted but I do think a giga falls into both categories. It would bring in a lot of people & is easily marketable. I mean anything can he hella marketable but a giga just feels it would do so well here, not only complementing Bull but the entire coaster lineup. We're very well rounded & that just adds to the incredible arsenal of thrills at the park.

I mean this was kind of expected since this coaster was a last min addition they were able to get from Vekoma. I don't even think they purchased it until the beginning of this year. Normally planning for a coster like this takes 2 years so the fact that it's even opening at all this season is shocking to me. And after next year I think going forward we will start to see attractions opening at the start of the season, which is what Cedar Fair has always tried to do and they are basically the ones in charge now so here's hoping!

The past two teasers have both been posted at 3:00 pm…the three posts for Sky Striker were all posted at 1:30 pm which had ended up being a clue about the angle of the swing. Yeah, probably not happening but it’s fun to pretend

Disagree, i think a low end park, or a park with a lot of space could use a giga way more than Great America

We will agree to disagree then haha ;) all the major parks in the chain have a giga on the CF side, it just makes sense for us. I can't say I've really ever ran into someone who thought we didn't need another coaster but it's a refreshing opinion honestly, regardless of me not agreeing with it lol

To be honest, I think we would benefit best from a kiddie coaster/camp cartoon &/or kidzopolis revamp. I'd like to see both kids areas be redone. I've always wanted to see a kids coaster themed to Marvin Martian. Always thought that would be cute. One could totally fit in next to Spaceleys now with two flats gone. One of the single helix Zamperla coasters, call it Marvin Martian Madness ;) imagine camp cartoon being rethemed to Looney tunes space camp. Kinda out of place but just makes enough sense. Summer camp would be better but again, something - the area is bad.

Why not just retheme Sprocket Rocket to Marvin?, Then add a few kids/family rides in the empty pads?

I think some people, including myself, are realizing how much Six Flags has ruined alot of the original theming and Marriott elements, i know there's people that care about park preservation still, but i think in the long run, theming and guest experience matters more than a new coaster. Great America, out of all Six Flags parks has the most potential in the theming and family aspect, and with Dinsye becoming pricier, Great America really could fill that gap.

I'm just over with Roller Coasters at the park with the limited space, and think that money could be better spent somewhere else
