Deja Vu's temper?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Iggy ACE on April 28th, 2004, 3:11 pm
What kind of weather conditions make Deja Vu close or not open? I know high winds has it affect on every coaster but what will keep it from opening on saturday ( Only weather not mechanial)? How does it fair in the cold and rain?
Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!

As long as the heaters are on when it is cold, it's fine, but Vu will close in ANY type of rain.

It will be open if it's cold but will be closed in high winds or rain.

They really stress the rain issue. If it's even very light showers they will close it. I'm not sure why, maybe it slows down the train? I know it makes squeaking noises if it's running on a wet track.

I think it mostly has to do with the catch wagons being wet. I think that if they are wet, there is a bigger chance that the car will slip off the catch wagon.

Deja Vu is a very sensitive ride mechanical wise, the last thing it needs is rain.

They didn't open Deja Vu until the track was dry when I was there for FF.

When I went there one time this summer, it was just like drizzling, not even raining. But, they still said it would be closed until no rain...

Yeah....I have never riden it in the rain. When I was there last season I was probley 3 trains from the front and they closed it because it was very lightly drizzling.
This will forever amuse me......

Near the end of the season they ran it in rain but stopped people from entering the queue then closed it, one night it was just open. So technically they can run it in the rain cause I rode it in steady rain but it is VERY RARE they do that.

Rain can be very damaging to the ride, on the vertical drops when the track is dry through friction the road will will spin up to speed before the train bottoms out at the bottom of the spikes, but when the track is wet there is less friction and the wheels dont spin up to speed(if at all), and when it gets to the bottom with all the pressure on the wheel it cant accelerate fast enough so not only does it shave off some speed, but in the best case scenario it shaves a flat spot into the wheel and at worst can shread the urathane tire right off the metal wheel hub, and that's not what really what you want to do to tires/wheels that costs close to a grand each.

Also of course high wind, lightning, extreme cold and all that stuff will close down DV along with any other coaster in the park.
