Help with Job information Please

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby SFGAMkid on January 18th, 2004, 10:48 pm
I'm looking forward to get a summer job this year at Great America. Most likely a Ride Op. However, I really don't know much about hours, training, age, and what not...

However, I will only have my temps at the time that I begin to work (if I get the job) and I doubt my parents will be able to drive me back and forth each day. I live in Milwaukee and I remember someone telling me once about a busing system, but what do I know?

If anyone can give me info. or tips, that would be appreciated!

Thank You

How about you go to a job interview and find out? They could help you out.

First up, how old are you? I don't think you can operate major rides if you're under 18.

Thanks for Imput so far....

I will turn 16 at the end of May; so I really don't know if I could qualify this season or not?

Do you just call Park Management or how do you arrange an interview? I sound kind of stupid for asking these questions, but I really don't know for sure...

I guess you call Park Management like you said, and ask them when they're accepting applications.

Well, if you'll be 16 by the end of May, I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm sure you can just temporarily work in one of the 15 yr old positions, and then once you are 16 you could transfer departments and be a ride op. At least that's how it is at CP.

GreatAmerica2003 worked at the park, you might want to try PMing him. He always seemed to know whats going on within the park. 1 hour away though? Thats quite a drive every day.

Also just another thing to remember once you get your job you really can't post here anymore. GAm is very strict on that, part of all those forms you sign is a non-disclosure form.. I.E. you really can't say anything to anyone about the park, or things that have happened etc . :-p You're luck tho, I'm too far away, I'm not driving 1 hour every day to work lol.

Jay Vending sells the Lemon Chill and those people do not work for Six Flags.

Well i'll be 15 at the end of march and am thinking of working at SFGam this summer.(Yes i know the jobs) How many days do we get off and such, cause i would like to go to those ERT days and on July 21st or July 22nd i am meeting a friend that lives in indiana at SFGam and would like to have those days off.

Also just another thing to remember once you get your job you really can't post here anymore. GAm is very strict on that, part of all those forms you sign is a non-disclosure form.. I.E. you really can't say anything to anyone about the park, or things that have happened etc .

Well that doesn't mean you can't post, you just can't post anything about the park that the public doesn't all ready know.(It is Obvious i know)
This is where I would usually put stuff. Can't think of anything right now... =/

You can check out SFGAm's Job website at : http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatamerica/Jobs/

There is a busing program from areas surrounding Gurnee(for 16+ year olds) and a housing program for college students. There is an option to apply online, but that function doesn't seem to be up and running yet.

I know by my house you can just go to your local train station and they usually have their major bus stops there and thats where you can take the 6 flags bus. I've never taken it, but I've seen it and it goes straight to and from 6 flags.

Well, I am planning on calling the park today. I might be able to work in the Park Operations Division doing let's say Admissions until 16, and then ask to switch, but I don't know so I will ask them.

I also PM'd Greatamerica2003 who said just to go there and apply. They will automatically schedule you for an interview right then and there.

Greatamerica2003 didn't really answer anything about work hours/vacations or training.

Well the law says that you cannot work one job for more than 7 days in a row so you will have days off. I'm assuming you will be working 5 days a week. If you go on one of the saturdays in Feb you will have an interview on the spot because Great America said they are Job fairs. I'm pretty sure that they wont let you start working as a ride operator without any training. Just ask SFGreat America about it he knows more. But if you do get hired i wouldnt post on here at all. That's just job security.

Actually it does. Hence why SFGAmOnline closed down, Kyle ( not me the other one..) got a job at the park, he was not posting anything about his job etc, and they told him either take down the site, or loose his job. And yes they can do that, its a private company.

Ok then........ :? So your saying any boby who works there can't say anything about the park. What if we want to post about say, how this site is or umm well you get the point.

Those posts should be ok, but SFGAm managers do check these boards, so don't say I didn't warn you if they tell you to stop. The whole point of the NDA is really to protect them from media leaks if something bad.. ( I.e. Demon Accident) happens again, they don't want the employee's talking to the media saying anything that may hurt them. Thats what their PR people are for..

My question is how would they know who you are? Say just for exapmle I worked at the park and I posted something that happened at the park like an accident that didn't get public acknowledgement or something, how would they know that in fact I am an employee just by that post and my user name, location, signiture etc.?

I actually called the Park Management today and this is what the lady in the office told me.

You are better off applying for a ride op right away, even if you are 15 years old. You then can begin your training, and then when your 16th birthday came closer, then you would be able to start operating rides.

It is much easier that way then to work for a different part of the park becuase if you then go to switch/transfer jobs you needed to fill out all these forms and there is a rule that you must work so long in your first job you applied for before you can even think about transfering departments.

I still haven't made my final desicion. She said once they get the Apply Online forms up (Mid February) on the Job link on the website, you can fill it out, and the park can let you know about information from there.
