X-Flight new for 2012

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Stuck on the bottom of lift hill today, ride op said it automatically shuts down with winds over 35MPH and when it gets to cold.

This makes no sense how does a new ride shut down in cold weather?

Wind was not an issue tonight. The temperature though is something I'd never heard of before tonight. If the air temperature drops to 40 degrees, the ride will automatically shut down. Since the ride can't be run at all once the temperature reaches 40, they'll close the ride with a few degrees to spare so they don't risk getting people stuck on the ride, for example, tonight it was 43 degrees when they closed it for the night.

For wind, the park will not operate X Flight when wind gusts are above 30mph, and 35mph automatically shuts the ride down as stated in scott2608's post.

Thanks DejaVu2001, What is the reason why it shuts down in cold weather all the other B&M coasters in the park work fine in cold weather?

I'm not sure why B&M changed that from the other coasters. The other ones might have a recommended temperature, I don't know, but X Flight is the only one that actually shuts down. I know for Bull and Superman, if it's cold, maintenance will heat up the trains in the morning.

I heard this too today about X flight. Still wonder why it shuts down in the cold weather after it has been running all day. I know there was as sign in front of the ride stating that if the temp gets below 40 the ride will be closed. What time did they close it? My last ride on X flight tonight was at 10:20pm.

Cold weather makes rides more likely to valley. Though that is usually only an issue starting the ride in the morning or after a lengthy closure, which makes the automatic shutdown seem really unnecessary in my opinion.

They have found a way to address the 40 degree temperature shut down. So X Flight shouldn't have any problems unless it gets really cold.

What did they do to fix the issue? Seems unusual that it would shut itself down for cold... I could see possibly an indicator light, but a full blown trouble light with shut down is odd.

^Programming adjustment. Apparently all new B&Ms come with the 40 degrees programmed into the ride system. B&M recommends all of their coasters not operate below 40 degrees, but only ones built in the last year or 2 have it actually programmed into the ride.

No it got torn down 4 months ago. It was just too rough and by the end nobody was riding it. They're putting in a Tony Montana themed ride to replace it. It's gonna be a mixture of roaring rapids, the swings, and Dark Knight Coaster.

Anybody know what gauge track Xflight uses? It looks heavier than standard sitdown like Bull has, but looks smaller than Dive machine track.

Wing Riders use the same track style as other B&M's....The only differences in BYM track is that inverted rides' cross-ties aren't straight like sit-down. As for Dive Machines....well, that's obvious.

What do you mean by "cross-ties aren't straight"?

Look very closely at B&M inverted and B&M Sit-down (Hyper, wing, floorless, etc.) The cross-ties AKA the things attached to the rails are shaped different.

Not Straight.

This is the Dive Machine, by far the most unique.

Ah. I was looking at the "top"/long edges of the ties, not the "bottom"/short edges.
