Look at the last listing here. Now, its common knowledge that American Eagle is an Intamin coaster. Less known, is its a Curtis Summer's ride. Now, apparently, Larry Bill of Gravity Group was involved with the ride too. How does he fit in? Intamin built it, Summers designed it, Bill did what? And, why doesn't Eagle suck? It's a Summers coaster. Mean Streak sucks. Raging Wolf Bobs sucks. Apparently Psyclone and Predator do, too. And Hurcules was said to be very rough. The only ones that are said to be good are Thunder Run and Georgia Cyclone, both smaller woodies. Whats different about Eagle, the first mega-woodie, that has made it stand the test of time more than the others like Hercules and Mean Streak?
Eagle is cool but that big helix scares the crap out of me. Man if those brakes falied up there before the turn i think the train would fly off. God does that ride get rough. I like wood coasters, my favorite one is viper. But nothing beats nylon wheel on steel pipe.
Maneuverman.. pulling high altitude loops and zero g maneuvers every weekend.
I dont know what he has to do with it, but I really like American Eagle. I wish that one winter they would fix the last helix to make it bank further so it can run brakeless And maneuverman, this doesn't matter, but steel coaster's wheels are made out of polierthine or however you spell it.
The helix can run brakeless. Only 1 ride I took on it in 2002 had it trimmed there. It was rougher than the 3 or 4 other rides I took without it.Last night Dave and I talked about this a little bit. Larry Bill worked under Curtis Summers. Something-Wright Contractors worked under Intamin. We just aren't sure of these 2 groups fit together.
Very ironic how it didn't turn out overly rough. I have grown up on RWB and it has a very boring layout. Same with Predator... Both very rough rides. There is just isn't any airtime, laterals or anything. How did AE turn out so good compared to its siblings?! Mean Streak surely has the size, maybe they just added way too much power and speed to that ride causing it to be rough and need to be overtrimmed.
