Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Has anyone seen it yet? What are your opinions of it? I haven't heard much of anything about the Glow in the Park Parade except by Monsterfan. Has no else seen it yet?

I have seen it and my opinion is that it's okay. I don't really understand the music. What in the world is she singing? Does anyone have lyrics to what she's singing? I think the second half of the parade is better than the first half. I think they were better off having more characters than more things that aren't needed like the first half - such as Frog, Dragon (Maybe, keep one of them, but park parades are usually their for people to see the characters.). For the Batman float, they only have Batman. For the villain, they only had Riddler. There is no Robin, no Catwoman, no Batgirl, no Joker, no Mr. Freeze, and it's only those 2 characters for that part of the parade. Also, I just can't understand why they couldn't get Superman, and let him be in the parade and have a float? I guess the same could be said about Scooby Doo. They have Scrappy, Scooby, and Shaggy. No, Velma, Dapne, or Fred? My favorite parade float was the Mystery Machine though.

With the villians and such....it all depends on what day you go. I went on Monday and Cheetah and Riddler were in it. I liked the parade, the music was good and the floats were cool. My favorite would have to have been the Dragon. Also sometimes Wonder Woman is in front of the Dragon, I don't remember if I saw her Monday. I might have missed her. The park doesn't have Robin right now and we did have Flash but idk when he's coming. Where Green Lantern is, I don't know about him either.

I thought it was an improvement over the last parade an overall it was decent. I agree on that singers part though. I can only make out the first line "when our friend the sun bids a gentle goodnight" I'm guessing the lyrics don't get better

Cheetah is only there on certain days, when I went Memorial Day weekend it was Riddler and Joker. When I went June 19th, if I remember I think it was Cheetah, Sinestro and Joker. It just depends when you go. Im going Saturday so we'll see whose there.

Having now seen the parade 3 times, it really feels like a mix of the old night parade and a poor man's Main Street Electrical Parade. They really should have went without any characters, but those sell merchandise. I'm still trying to figure out where they spent the million it cost.

Without characters, who would care to see it? Looking at Disney's Electrical Parade, you have Alice in Wonderland with the stuff from the movies, you have Pirate's of the Carribean, you have Mickey, Pluto, Peter Pan clock tower, Dumbo stuff, Snow White and dwarfs, dragon from a movie (I forget which one?), Cinderella, and I think Beauty and the Beast. It all relates to Disney stuff.

For Glow in the Park Parade at the beginning you have the fake blue man group on a float, you have a bird, a dragon, a frog, a bunch of band people, mohawk people, and what not. Later on, you have I guess girls with mop hair? ??? What do any of these things relate to in the park? Really, why don't the Wiggle's people have their own float? I think Great Adventure has them on their own float. Why don't they have a Batmobile in the parade? Also, the trolley just seems weird to have in this parade. To me, the Looney Tunes float was kind of lame with just it having it to do with the music. Again, though I liked the 2nd half better as it made more sense with characters like Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes (even though it could have been better), Batman, Wonder Woman, and what not.

Really, all Shapiro did was look at Disney, and go hey they have animals, let's have animals too even though I guess he couldn't figure out that they relate stuff like Alice in Wonderland has the animals in the movie itself, and not just random animals for no reason. Dumbo has animals also based on the movie, and a Dragon was in multiple Disney movies, but the dragon they have is the nicer one - I don't know the name though of that movie. (The other two I can think of are Sleeping Beauty, and Fantasia).

I remember seeing Disneyworld's parade, I thought it was rather neat. But I like ours too, I have never gone to another Six Flags park before and I'm hoping to go to Magic Mountain in the upcoming months because I'm moving closer to the park even though I'm really gonna miss our park. At least I got to see the parade for this year and I must say for once great job Great America.

^I know off-topic for this one post, but before you go to live near Magic Mountain, make sure you get on the flats over here, because at Magic Mountain you are going to miss all the flats we have. Their flats really are a Scrambler, a different make of swings (a Yo-Yo - Knott's has like our swings I believe.), bumper cars, an observation tower (like going to the Sears Tower - You go up an elevator; look around, come down the elevator.) even though Knott's Berry Farm has one like ours, a swinging ship like River Rocker, a Round-Up, and a Himilaya. Search for Round-Up, and Himilaya on youtube, or somewhere else and you will see what they do. That's really it for flats for older people - Yeah, a grand total of 7!! Sure, they have flats for kids. They do have water rides though - a Log ride, a boat ride, a Splash Water Falls, and a Roaring Rapids.

^ Ok thank you, but yeah I am really going to miss seeing this parade but I know for sure I will be back for Fright Fest and a few times next summer so hopefully I won't miss too much. Anyways about this parade, when I went on Monday when the floats went by the music was really loud and it was skipping too.

I saw it and filmed the whole thing last Friday. The show before it was pretty bad as expected, however the parade itself is pretty spectacular. The music fits right and there's always something to watch (you won't get bored with it). Just needs fireworks and it would be perfect.

I saw it the first night it opened (May 29), and I thought it was great.

My only complaint would be that the park turn off more of the lights in the area. For example, I was in hometown square, and all the stores on the square were open, and lit up. That really took away from the "glow" part of the parade.

Now, if there was a way to totally turn off every light in the park on the parade route....now that would be cool.

I think the parade should be at 10:30. All the coasters should be shut down, all the rides are down, majority of the lights are out, and then have the parade.

A parade after the park closes? I think it'd be easier just to turn off the lights in the shops and booths/whatever.

That would prevent a key buying time. People see fudge in the candy shop, and want to purchase it.

Hopefully they will be tonight, also the music was skipping on Monday so hopefully that's been fixed too. Also on Monday, when the floats went by the music was really really loud, has anyone else experienced this watching it?

Yeah, that's it. Here's a video of the "Main Street Electrical Parade" formerly at California Adventure. They called it something else at California Adventure.

Originally it was called "Disneylands Main Street Electrical Parade" at DL then "Disney's Main Streek Electrical Parade" at MK. When it ran at DCA it's "Disney's Electrical Parade" and since World of Color is there now they moved it back to MK. When the Electrical Parade is not running at MK they have another parade called Spectromagic which is going to be returning after the summer. Disneyland in Tokyo has its own Electrical Parade which was recently completely re-done and looks amazing.

^ was the dragon from Pete's Dragon?

Yes

I havent seen SFGAm's parade but got to see it when it was new at SFGAdv and thought it was great. At the time I was jelous of New England because they got it as a quick replacement since they announced they were no longer getting The Dark Knight coaster (the parade was a better addition in my opinion). Was really surprised when St Louis got it last year and Great America didn't. Here's some more info about Glow in the Park:

Chosen to create the parades was the team at Gary Goddard Entertainment (GGE). The results transform each park into an after dark fantasy land of light, sound and motion.

"Gary delivered first rate results with this project," believes Dan Weinberg, entertainment vice-president for Six Flags Inc. "His powerful creation was exactly what we envisioned and delivers a memorable and exciting experience for our guests. We hope to continue expanding the parade throughout our parks."

Goddard and colleague Taylor Jeffs created the Glow in the Park concept together with conceptual designer Phil Mendez. Once Six Flags approved the idea, GGE brought in Raul Rodriguez, a designer that Goddard has worked with before on numerous projects. Benoit Jutras, one of Cirque Du Soleil’s premier composers, was approached for the music, which had to be uplifting.

The GGE production team got the parade built, cast and working in record time. That team included Barry Kemper as executive producer. Michael La Fluer, whose resume includes artistic co-ordinator for Celine Dion’s A New Day in Las Vegas, Imagineer for Disney and extensive portfolio of Broadway musical and play work, created fluid choreographed numbers for the Glow in the Park performers. The final touches to the parade were added by Mia Gyzander, who designed and constructed more than 100 breath-taking costumes that shimmer with bright colours, reflective fabrics and glowing lights.

"All in all, the concept was a bit daring," believes Goddard. "We presented what we called the anti-Disney parade. We stated that Six Flags should not copy the Disney approach but originate something unique to its brand. We saw that as edgier, hipper and cooler, something that people had not already seen a hundred times."

"We took our inspiration more from Las Vegas and Broadway than from Disney," Jeffs continues, "more from Blue Man Group, from Stomp and from Cirque du Soleil. We wanted something truly different."

The parade has been a monster success so far," proclaimed Six Flags CEO Mark Shapiro after the show, the first of its kind in the country, opened in Mexico

"Magic Light Parade is a phenomenal success," agrees José Garcidueñas, the park’s president. "It drives attendance, visitors spend more time in the park with us, and they leave having great memories from it.

Goddard returns the compliment and praises the Six Flags Mexico team, saying that without the park’s active co-operation the project could not have been realised in such record time: "José and his entire team made the project possible. They have some superb people in Mexico, all dedicated to the realisation of quality in everything they do. We certainly could not have done it without them."

"We're happy to see the audiences reacting as they are to the parade," concludes Goddard. "It's a truly emotional experience. The music, the lights, the performers, the costumes ...it all came together in a way that made real magic."
