My girlfriend recently told me many years ago when she went to Six Flags and was getting ready to board the coasters the employee, after waiting in long lines, told her she was to overweight to board the coaster. Im unsure which coaster it was, but does this seriously still happen to this day? it was a severe blow to her ego and she said from that point on she has never set foot in the park because that statement as you can imagine hurt. I'm a little bit overweight myself, but she is a little bit thicker then I am, if anyone out there can tell me if this still happens in the park, being turned down on coasters cause of the weight issue let me know. Also if there is certain coasters to avoid, please do tell me so i know.
Second topic is I purchased a season pass awhile ago for this year but never used it, if I dont use it this year can I use it for next year since I never used it?
Lastly i've seen numerous posts regarding costumes what exactly is a inapporpiate costume? My girlfriend thought about going to Fright Fest with an Alice in Wonderland costume, short skirt and apron, its not super short cause the costume is made for plus sizes. Also me being a guy if she dresses up in something, id like to as well, but I have no idea what I could do since I see they dont allow makeup or masks on in the park if your a guest? That kinda eliminates anything creepy I think. Any ideas let me know. Thanks!
Welcome! 1. On rides like Superman and V2, you can get turned down because of weight, which is saddening, so check to make such to use the test chair outside of the superman building!
2. My guess is no, that's kind of sad though.
3. Inappriate costumes are with masks and face paint, there's additional dress codes on the fright fest pamphelet. I believe an Alice costume would fit the dress code.
Hope you liked the info - vprlvr
(sings)If you want to be my Chang-y, doesn 't matter if your black or white, or brown, or blue, or green, or red, or orange, or mauve, or yellow... 2010 trips- Dollywood, SFGAm, maybe SoCal
thanks that does help a little bit,is there any other coasters we should avoid in your own opinion? my favs are the dark knight coaster, the wizzer, chubasco, the demon, would there be a problem with any of these?
i would think and hope the alice in wonderland costume would work because it doesnt show the but,or anything like that, its a free flowing costume that rises just above the knees as far as i know. let me know thanks! btw whats the prices this year for the haunted houses? are they all seperate or how does that work for fright fest this year?
I'm a big man (6'1 285) and I can fit easily on Demon, Whizzer, Dark Knight, Ragin Cajun, Spacely Sprocket Rockets, Raging Bull, and I've not ridden Superman yet, but I can fit comfortably in the test chair. Batman the Ride is a no for me at this point (about 25 lbs or so away). I haven't tried the Eagle, but I did ride Viper, although it was a bit snug. I fit on Iron Wolf, but it is very snug.
As far as the other rides, Chubasco can accommodate riders of virtually all sizes, and I've had no problems with:
River Rocker Big Easy Ballons Rue Le Dodge Carousel Roaring Rapids Yankee Clipper Loggers Run Wiggles big red planes/cars (with my 3 and 5 year olds) Great American Raceway Buccaneer Battle Fiddlers Fling Hometown Fun Machine Condor East River Crawler Train Sky Trek Tower Jesters Wild Ride
I haven't tried to ride Triple Play, Revolution, King Chaos, or The Orbit recently, but I am pretty sure that Triple Play and Orbit would be fine, but Revolution and KC would most likely be a no.
As stated by the posts above there are body size restrictions on a lot of the rides, as there are on many rides every amusement park. I highly doubt an employee told your girlfriend she was too overweight to ride verbatim. They say "sorry if the restraint does not accomidate you, you cannot ride" or some slight variation of that they would never tell someone they are too overweight to ride (though obviously if need be they have to imply it). Theres really not much else they can do.
My advice regarding the costumes is not to wear them. They have the rules in place to ensure people do not mistake you for their performers and so you dont go walking around backstage dressed as charecters (among other reasons) so I would imagine they are strict about it. Also if a ride does not have a test seat you can walk up the exit to see if the restraint closes on you, I would recommend doing that on Iron Wolf and V2 if it is open.
About the weight thing, while it is a blow to someone's self esteem, it is necessary to do. I am a fairly large person and have not been allowed to ride American Eagle (earlier this season actually) because I simply didn't fit in the ride. They really don't care that a guest is overweight, but if they don't fit, they can't ride. It really depends on the ride, and from what I've found, the main parts of your body that limit you are how big your thighs (affects lap bars) and belly (affects OTSRs) are. Also, try different seats. Sometimes seat belts and bars are not always the same length and you just happened to line up on the row that has short ones.
Off topic now: I know IOA has seats on their coasters for "guests of extraordinary size." They inform you of this in line, and it would be helpful if SFGAm did this as well. However, I don't think any of the rides at SFGAm are specifically designed for larger guests; it just happens to be coincidence that you'll fit in some seats and not others.
Hi i'm sure i can help, Ok as far as coasters these are the ones i am able to get on (i am a bit bigger 278#): DEMON, Viper, Whizzer, Ragin Cajun, Dark Knight, I can fit into the test chair on Superman. But i cannot fit in Batman V2 or Iron Wolf (I have never tried American Eagle) but she might be able to. I have ridden every flat ride in the park. There are definately going to be 2 exceptions Revolution and King Choas I fit into both of these but they are tight and unless u and ur gf dont mind a few minutes of uncomfortability then attempt these 2. But note revolution is very narrow and i need the third push down from the operator DO NOT WEAR A JACKET ON THIS RIDE U WILL NOT FIT. King Choas is better the OTSR will stop when it touches you but then u have the lap bar part of it that makes it snug. Triple play is easy Orbit fine on the East River Crawler go for arm number 2, 4, or 5 these seat belts are a bit larger chubasco fine condor fine fiddlers fling fine water rides fine but on roarin rapids u mihgt have to sit apart. Costumes are fine as long as there is no make up. Last year a woman was dressed up as sailor moon they let her in. And question 3 u probably are going to loose out on that pass bummer
I know im a bit late to the party but its almost 6 am and im bored.
I use to be a bit bigger (5 11 and over 250 pounds). I just BARELY made it on v2 and iron wolf. My thighs werent so big so lapbars werent an issue but over the shoulders were bad news due to my height and weight. Iron wolf i had to suck it in and the ride op used his elbow to push it in to the first click. v2 i sucked it in as hard as i could then pulled down as fast on the harness as i could to get that thing to lock into place. I think i may have had the same issue on vu... memories of her keep fading.
im on the right, mark mcgrath in the middle. some loser on the right.
I started working at UPS and now ive lost like a lot of fat and put on muscle. It seriously made me so happy when i went on vu and heard that thing click a few times. I was so embarrased to even know that i could barely fit on that ride so i know the pain.
When i worked at iron wolf i use to see people get denied due to the restraints not fitting them. what really shocks me is how random it seems if a person fits or not. it usually has to do more with the shape of the person than the weight. even this season i saw plenty of people get denied rides due to the restraints. its really nothing to be embarrased about if you think about it.
Don't take this the wrong way at all but the off season is a great time to get some exercise in. just cut back on some food and just take a simple walk every day. it helps a lot. oh and give up soda. that stuff is killer. this guy i know weighs over 400 pounds... he gave up pop and in 3 months lost 25 pounds without changing any other facet of his diet or exercise routine.
or get a job at ups
i may not be that slim but i have lost enough weight... im thinner now than i was in high school... plus the ladies love a guy who knows how to handle fragile items... especially if i keep them in my power zone (someones got to know what that means around here)
What's really funny, is that you think I'm from the GP (General Public). When indeed, I most likely know far more about the coaster, as I've rode it multiple times.
Lol. You just called yourself a loser. (Typo, I know)
But anyway, he's right. During the offseason working out will definitly help (obviously). About the pop thing, I've heard miracle stories of people losing 100 lbs or more in a five year span just because they gave up soda and nothing else. Weird, but true.
Have a take and don't suck, it's the Jim Rome Show!
The soda bit is true. People do not understand how much sugar they are chugging with it. Even with eating unhealthy and not doing much working out, I have been able to keep my same weight with cutting soda.
