Well, it wouldn't be opening late because for quite a while they've been saying the plan is for it to open Memorial day weekend, as usual, which is May 26-27. That's not even a two week difference.
Besides, even if it was ready and they kept it closed until physics day, we wouldn't know, only the park would. Just because it may seem like it's ready, doesn't mean it is.
How is that fanboyism? Physics Day participants don't pay for season pass incentives so I am biased towards DejaVu2001's option 2. This is just a way of getting positive feedback from the GP.

4. It is finished before May 15th, opens, and Physics kids don't care that it opened early. Most of them probably wouldn't even have a clue that it had already opened prior to Physics Day, and I'd bet many wouldn't know it's being billed as "get your first rides on X-Flight!" day either. SFGAm will open the ride when it's ready to open, even if it's before Physics day.
DejaVu2001 wrote:^Ugh. You have got to be freakin' kidding me. Serious BS right there. Only Six Flags could make a B&M open late. And for them to be suggesting that X-Flight will open late this early in the construction phase just makes me
They can't possibly know that construction and testing will finish on exactly May 15th this early in the offseason. So there are three possible scenarios here:
1. It opens later than May 15th and all the Physics kids are pissed. 2. It is finished before May 15th, opens, and Physics kids are pissed because Six Flags told them they'd be first. 3. It is finished before May 15th, Six Flags keeps it closed so the Physics kids can get their first ride as promised, and everyone is pissed that the new ride is sitting finished and closed because Six Flags made a stupid promise way back in December.
I seriously doubt the project is "late" based on the fact that B&M never delivers their projects late. It was most likely planned to open Memorial weekend and the Physics days would be acting as a soft opening (though not really a soft opening since it's announced). Extremely rare for a seasonal park, but year round parks do this all time and randomly open a new ride in the middle of the day on some random day before it officially opens.
All along they've been saying Memorial day.... What exactly is so shocking about this revelation, besides of course it's opening earlier than expected?
If it's any consolation, it should be open on opening day 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, etc.

Rides are definitely not supposed to be open on opening day, they're supposed to be open when they're ready. And tons of different factors determine this, not just Six Flags being "cheap." It just blows my mind people are complaining about this. That's only 3-4 weeks after opening day, it's not like its gonna up in October like DV. GRAm likes to use Memorial weekend as an opening day, so you should have been expecting the same for X Flight.
Obviously if a ride is ready for opening day it should open then. But from what I've heard about Superman's opening day, it shouldn't have been open for opening day. Being ready includes the station, queue, signs, everything. They should've waited an extra week to open it so it would actually look nice and represents the park better.

^ Nope, don't need to open rides any more, they found a new gimmick, just make admission really cheap and the GPers will swarm. Lets see, Batman is 20 years old this season. I got it, Opening Weekend admission $19.92
So, you're saying that if a ride is complete, yet the station/queue etc. isn't quite finished, a ride shouldn't open because of how it looks? Really?
If you told someone who was at the park the days the ride was closed because of the queue/station etc. not being painted, etc., do you think they'd take that as a good reason to have the ride closed? Do you think they would agree w/ it? You do realize that every single day the park is open, some of the people in the park may only go *that* day that year, or maybe it will be the only day they go in the next few years, or maybe it may the only day they go in their life. Do you think all of those people would be happy w/ the decision to keep that could be open closed just because of its aesthetics not being up to par?
If a ride is ready, I don't care what the queue, signs, etc. look like - it should be open. Also, any park that actually cares about ALL of their customers should have a business plan in place so that whatever they decide to add in a future year, that ride should be able to be ordered, assembled, and tested and be ready to go by opening day. If a park is located somewhere that typically gets horrendous winters, the ride should be ordered in time to allow extra time for assembly. Other than when a park is ordering Intamins or prototypes , if a park plans ahead, there's no reason why the vast majority of rides that a park purchases shouldn't be ready by opening day. The key, though, is planning ahead and not ordering a ride at the last minute and planning on having it open a month+ into the season. That, to me at least, is a horrible business plan that will only alienate some of your park visitors.
With how SFGAm historically opens rides late, I think the GP assumes it's just standard operating procedure to not have the new ride ready on opening day. SFGAm stopped caring about customers the day they attached Six Flags to the name of the park.
On the other hand, the ride will be open just about every single operating day for the next decade +, so I'm not to concerned

^that's how I see it. I have all-freaking season to ride it and the season after....blah, blah, blah. Is a few days really going to kill you when it's going to be there for YEARS?! The first time you read it, it's a kick in the nuts and disappointing, but w'e'll all get over it.

My high school takes all of its physics classes to SFGAm in mid-May. Would this likely be that day (also, where is this press release posted?)? It didn't seem like the day we went last year was special. Sure, half the attendance was physics-related, but a ton of random people were there too.
GOOD THING I'M IN PHYSICS AND WILL BE AT PHYSICS DAY

That's what I want to know. Because last year, we went on Friday, May 13, and May 15 seems pretty close to that, but that's a Tuesday, not a Friday. I guess we'll see...
Nevermind, THIS is what we did last year:

When Mark Shapiro was doing an interview in 2006 he said that the new rides needed to be open on opening day because it makes no sense to lose that attendance at the beginning of the season. Obviously when he was running the company many if not most of the new rides did not open on the parks opening day.
Point being it's easy to say that the new rides should be ready to go on the parks opening day for the season but there may be reasons that none of you know about as to why they rarely are. If you have checked SF's financial conditions the past decade it becomes clear that they probably don't have the money to do things they way that they should. They could get X Flight ready for the parks opening day this year but the maintenance guys would be so focused on that ride that a bunch of other things might not be ready or running 1 train. They could hire more guys and or do a ton of OT, but they might not be able to pay the bills if they do.
Guys, besides, when was the last time a ride opened on opening day? Seriously, what's the big deal. You guys complain that we don't get Chang, Now, we get this unique B&M Wing-Rider that we will have ALL SEASON to ride, and you're complaining that we might not ride it the first couple weeks the park is open? I don't get what's with the constant complaining. We're getting a cool ride guys!!! But no one seems to care other than an early opening day
^ Superman: Ultimate Flight, May 3rd, 2003 for coaster opened on opening day. Ride in general, Wiggles World, May 5th, 2007. And I had no problem losing Chang. Great Adventure can keep it. Chang would have been a bad fit, and probably would have been our only major ride for a while. I very much doubt Chang and X-Flight would ever have both happened.
We are all really happy to FINALLY get a new coaster. And yet some of you are complain about whether it will be opening early, opening late, opening around Memorial Day. Seriously?
Can we stop with all the constant complaining about this and just ENJOY THE DAMN RIDE? (Whenever it opens)
