Six Flags to get new sign after 30 years

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby Chitown on December 25th, 2006, 12:27 am
You have to see it in person.

I drove past it when the sun was pretty much down and it's very lit up and visually nice looking.

Seeing it from the front view you can't even tell much that the LCD is angled. The first pics in this topic dont do it justice. You will never view the sign from those angles.

It's an improvement.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

I have to admit, after reading what everybody has been saying about the sign I was worried. However, I went by during the day and agian at night, and in my opinion it is a huge improvement. I imagine they will repaint the base when the weather becomes more favorable for painting.

It would be cool if they painted the base Red, White and Blue.

They should paint it like how the SkyWhirl stand was like:

You just HAD to bring up SkyWhirl, didn't you? That's one ride I miss with a passion, even though the cabins are USED for props. The lingering sound of the exhaust fan has been absent for years now.

I can't remember where your Carousel website is. I kind of liked it. And yes, the soundtrack is a classic. Except it needs to be restored back to normal on the outside, instead of having to listen to the mutilated version that's out there right now.

New sign looks good in my opinion. Oh, and Mr DT, accept the fact Sky Whirl is gone and that a much better ride is in its place.

I, too saw the sign at day and at night and I personally think it looks awesome. It is a HUGE improvement to what they had before and it really catches your eye.

Does anybody have any pictures of the sign at night with the display board on?

Now now, I do absolutely LOVE Deja Vu and it's one of the greatest rides in the park in the category of Raging Bull and AE, but it's funny to me at the same time the Sky Whirl was a classic ride. Sometimes you have to decide between one or the other. Oh well.

Before we have this whole "Skywhirl over Déjà Vu" argument again, i'd like to chime in and remind everyone Sky Whirl (along with Shockwave, Trailblazer, and the list goes on) was removed for mechanical integrity reasons, not just to make space for Déjà Vu. So regardless, its silly to not like Déjà Vu just because it took Sky Whirls place, as it would have removed anyway.

Hello I'm new and excited to be a part of SFGAm World..........but I hope trailblazer isn't removed. I have riden on that ride, and enjoyed it, for years! I can't wait to see the new sign. The advertisement seems like a great idea! Hopefully it won't distract to much from the actually sign though.

Kinda looks like its floating, be advised though pics do not do justice, the sign looks awesome when driving by. Also, the new holiday lights on top of Sky Trek tower are much improved! Couldnt grab a pic cause of trees in the way, but its definitley worth looking at if driving by.

The Sign may look nice, but it is still too small. It needs to be bigger. It looks funny to see a small sign with a huge park.

size doesn't matter if its big enough.

Now, all of these pictures of the sign are from the base looking up which makes the head of the sign disproportionate. When your coming up or down 94, it looks very proportinate and the angled sign makes it so easy to read. You can see it from a mile back coming from the south (which is where I was when the picture was taken)

Oh and to quote someone else

...it's just a sign.... Keep in mind, it is more of a place marker then an advertisement type sign.

Even if you think the sign is too small, it is amazingly bright. When I went passed it it definatly grabbed my attention, and lets face it isn't that what a sign is supposed to do? I think it is a great improvement.
