No Smoking at Six Flags

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I don't believe that this rule caters to the minority. I know that I don't like being around people who smoke, but I don't always vocalize it. Usually I just attempt to make it so that I can avoid the smoke to the best of my abilities. And I have just one question, what about the employees? A lot of them would prefer not to have to deal with other people's smoke, and park services is not a big fan of having to clean up after smokers. I do realize that the employees could work else where, but many of them are kids in school and ther aren't many summer jobs better than amusement park that wants you to quit when you go back to school.
I can't stop thinking about you, but I still hate you!!

Okay, for the first quote above I didn't realize that you were talking about your asthma and not your lungs. However, you do need to realize that just because your asthma is extremely mild doesn't mean that everyone else's is, too.

As for keeping a good distance, smoke is bad for you whether you inhale one whiff or one pack a day. There's just no way you can shed some positive light on it.

I don't care if low42 has opinions, what he/she said is outright disrespectful and there's no room for that.

I'd be really suprised to find out that this rule really does cater to the minority. We'll find out if it really does based on how long it stays in effect (my guess would be forever). They'll yank it if they get more negative feedback than positive feedback on it.

I only agree with this rule because just the smell of smoke makes me very sick. I dont care if you smoke. But it would be nice to walk around without having to hold my breath when I walk past people who are smoking. But just to say again if you want to smoke just try not to breath the smoke toword other peoples faces. That is all I have to say on this topic.

^I agree, I am alergic to smoke, so this rule is nice for me. But I understand it upsetting smokers. If you want to smoke outside where it disipates, i don't see it as that big of a deal. Just have a little respect for those around you.

SFMM has added a sign showing that smoking is only allowed in designated areas.

I dont really like the idea. But, as long as they have spots throughout the place where you can chill and smoke your cancer stick, I guess it'll be alright. But I would rather walk and enjoy then sit there and smoke.

I think that rule is good because it's annoying when people who smoke blow the the smoke to people's faces,it's nice that they have an area to slowly kill themselves.I don't have anything against smokers personaly, but they should keep others in mind, not just themselves.

I'm sure I'm going to take a lot of flak over this from the "in your face" non-smokers and the family loving people who think the universe should cater to their needs and everything around them should be bubble wrapped and come with airbags, safety locks, and so on.

First off, if my kid is riding their first bike for the first time ever and has on the kneepads, elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet, and whatever else they come up with to make them look like theyre in a space suit...I hate to admit it, but I'll feel a bit ashamed when they yell "look daddy!"

Now that that's out of the way...

Smoking

Smoking in the park..

Myself, I am a courteous smoker at the park.

You can roll your eyes all you like, but I follow the rules...No smoking in ride lines, or other lines...it's easy to follow.

Some of you act like its such a pain to have me walking the paths from one ride to another, or picking a random bench to rest on, enjoying my time at the park with my lady as I smoke and chat with her.

That I should be forced into some little off the way place to do my business, as if I were going to the bathroom...A smoker's zoo, if you will.

Ridiculous.

I complain when I see others smoking in ride lines and such because I am courteous and law abiding when it comes to such common sense rules...If I can wait til I get out of line, why can't they?

What eats on my nerves is that now I am expected to hang around in some smoker zoo, simply because some whiny punks have issues about seeing me smoke outdoors anywhere in their vicinity, as if it will give them cancer of the eyes and strike them dead immidiately upon viewing.

What about all the families with the annoying loud children, I ask?

The families who let their little beasts run around the park unattended as if they had no proper upbringing or courtesy for other human beings...these "sweet children" who throw fits in public...cut in front of you while waiting to order food...line jump for rides...crawl all over the obviously roped off limits Batmobile as if it were a jungle gym...bump into you while walking around the park, tripping you on your feet...beasts come in all ages, I cant say teens are any better behaved.

You cant tolerate me?...Well, I cant tolerate your likes either.

Get your ass off of your precious cellphones, or just get off your ass period and mind your damn kids...just because you tolerate their "boisterous" behavior at home doesnt mean I should have to in public places where I go to have a good time as well.

Thats my two cents..if you don't like it, tough...I could really care less.

I've already been flicked into the ashtray of society by snotty bureaucrats who seem to have a problem with me smoking everywhere except in my house, under a blanket, with no lights on.

No longer can I enjoy a restaurant properly, now that they've extended it to the entire cook county...yet at the same time they raise taxes for cigarettes even higher...oh sure, make more money and leave less places for me to enjoy what I'm paying absurd prices for.

In the end, its my habit not yours...and I dont go around blowing my smoke in your faces like you do with your opinions, regardless of what you think.

I think somebody had one too many bad experiences at the park.

Interesting story, though. It was at least amusing.

Well said Whiplash. The fact of the matter is that smoking has become socially unacceptable. Its because of over opinionated people that are more concerned with complaining than having a good time. If you can let a smoker ruin your trip to a theme park you need to relax, or just stay at home.

I want everyone to have a good time, and that includes smokers, and that includes me.

I don't know where to start whiplash. As a smoker myself, I respect the others around me like you do. I am just glad that they have not banned smoking at Great America all together.
As far as the little "beasts", there are some really bad ones in the park at times. I have two myself, but I assure you that they would never pull any of the stuff that you mentioned in the park. If they did, their little asses would be buckled in that stroller faster than you could light a smoke.
Since you have brought up some interesting ideas, how about this. We have a section for smokers, how about a section for the following groups of people.

1) A Basketball court. That way, teens, and kids can practice their drippling, and shooting skills with the basketballs they just won, instead of doing it in the middle of the midway.

2) Playground. Place a dummy batmobile in there with rope around it so kids can jump on that one instead of the real one.

3) The loud section. You want to scream at the top of your lungs when you are standing behind me to your friends that are all the way in front of line.

4) The "Hey dumbass, your group of 15 people are standing right in the middle of the midway, blocking half the path. "MOVE!!!!!!" Ok, not really a section, but I just wanted to throw that in.

and finally, the love section. I don't mind showing your effection for the one you love with a kiss, but if you want to stand there, or sit there, tongues down each others throat, feeling each other up, thats cool, just do it this section so others don't have to see you do it. I am sure Great America will put a couple of beds in this section to accomadate you. Heck, they may even put an ashtray next to the bed so you can smoke when you are done.

I am almost positive that nobody on these boards does any of the above, so it is not directed at any of you. Coming to these boards for a couple of years now, I have come to realise that, while reading your posts, that you respect the people around you while you are at the park. Heck, as teens, all of you are alot more grown up than I was when I was your ages.

I can agree with the above.

Basketball dribblers annoy the hell out of me...yellers...all day tongue suckers...idiots who just stand in the middle of the pathway...extra Batmobile for those that cant seem to understand off limits or care...yep, yep, yep...

And while I'm at it, lets band together and lynch mob anyone we bust sticking a fresh juicy wad of gum on something inappropriately.

Silly as it is, nothing pisses me off more than when I see gum stuck on Bruce Waynes dad's fake memorial tombstone thingy, or how people feel the need to throw stuff at and/or desecrate the cutouts of people along the path to Superman...especially Supergirl...a little dignity, people!

I feel bad for the poor workers who have to go and clean that filth off, as well as troll the parking lots at night, cleaning up after some dirty slob groups picnic or whatever that just leaves all their food trash laying there.

^I know. The parking lot can look disgusting on some nights.

Sometimes I wonder if they use a bulldozer to clean up all of the crap in the parking lots because some days/nights it looks like it.

Sorry Whiplash, but you really need to understand that it's not you the park is trying to change. If everybody in the park were courteous like you while they smoked it would be a totally different story.

Unfortunatly for you and the rest of the "courteous" smokers out there there are a lot of uncourteous smokers out there, and those are the ones causing the problems.

So don't blame your problems on us, because it's not like we were whining to the park about it. (There probably weren't many people complaining anyway, this is just to change the image of the park) Blame the people who ruined it for everbody.

I don't really have a problem with smoking while you're walking from ride to ride, and practically everyone in my family smokes (not that I would EVER even give following their bad habits ANY consideration whatsoever), but I do understand the fact that they are trying to be more family-friendly and whatnot. I also agree with smoking in line being disgusting and disrespectful. Also, even though I don't have an issue with walking around and smoking as long as you're being respectful, I don't think that staying off to the side and having a cigarette is so much of a big deal. Honestly, what difference does it make if you're walking and smoking or standing/sitting and smoking. Is it just that fact that you have to go to a separate area that ticks you off? I mean, if it means that much to you, you can walk around the designated area and smoke, can't you? Any rules against that? I don't think so. Does it just bother you because you think that they're calling all smokers careless and inconsiderate? Well, if you decide to break this rule just in spite of it then I guess I could call you careless and inconsiderate. The reality is that it isn't that big of a deal, and if you really were a respectful smoker (which I know a lot of you are), it wouldn't bother you.

Honestly, it's not that bad. There's a smoking section in almost every themed section in StL, so there's bound to be in GAm as well. They are easy to find and they got those nice little smokers post thingies. I would rather smoke in a little area than have people just throw their butts everywhere.
