Ever since they started doing opening weekend specials with the admission prices....it's been busy. If you go in with the mindset that you have the rest of the season to get on what you want to ride....then you're fine.

Is it really crowded on opening day?
Normally yes, especially with discounted tickets, and that is combined with very poor operations.

Operations on Advocate Day weren't too bad. Rides rarely stacked although I couldn't judge Raging Bull and X-Flight's crews because they were running reduced trains.
But again, I don't know how' they'll handle the crowds on Opening Weekend. I'm expecting it to be even worse than previous years so don't plan on riding much this weekend.

When is the park the least busy during the season?

Weekdays in September (if any). But I think Great America learned their lesson there because they're barely open in September. As long as you don't go during the last few days of Read To Succeed you should be fine. The rest is really hit an miss. May besides opening weekend are good times to go.

Special announcement? Will someone please post it I am going, but probably not until Sunday and I will have missed it. I look forward to it. I am guessing it will have something to do with the Pictorium and a possible transition into a dark ride, Or the return of something (Sky Whirl, I know but I can dream) , maybe something going in Cajun's spot.

I doubt it's going to be anything that big. They're probably just going to "officially" announce something that they've already kind of told us, like the double rides on flat rides thing. Or maybe they'll just release the schedule of the "festivals" they're supposed to be having in honor of the 40th season...

Giga Coaster along the lines of Fury 325.
"It turns out that Superman Ultimate Flight may or may not be sitting on top of an oil reserve, so get your last rides in today before a large fleet of bulldozers arrives to find out."
"It turns out that Superman Ultimate Flight sits on a plot of land that actually belonged to Ukraine long before any other European settlers arrived to claim it for themselves. The strain of grass found on this plot of land is actually a strain native to Russia. Citing his civic duty to protect Russian natives, Vladamir Putin has annexed this land effective tomorrow, so get your last rides in today!"
"We've saved enough money to build the second half of Goliath."
I'm pretty sure the announcement is going to be something that we already know, probably about double rides, or a show in the pictorium, or the one in the grand music hall.
Do we know if they are doing anything special for opening day tomorrow for 40 seasons, like Californias Great America did? Also, didn,t they say they would have some cool 40 seasons merchandise available for purchase?

when i went to advocate day the sign out side of pictorium said screams and dreams is returning
I wonder which volume or if they will be playing all three each day. I actually kind of expected them to have something about the parks history for the 40th season, but I wasn't sure. Glad to see they will be playing screams and dreams again. Hopefully more people will go to see them this year.

Now that I actually read the article, it seems like the article basically says that's what the announcement is (although in a way that's a little vaguer than it probably should be).
This is how it's written:
Great America will be opening for the season on May 2, and a special announcement will be made at the park that day.
The Goliath roller coaster that was built just last year has broken three records, and it's been made official by Guinness World Records. The coaster is now considered the world's tallest, steepest and fastest roller coaster.
"Guinness sent us a certificate so they send an official certificate that's about the size of a legal document but a little bit bigger; each certificate states the record that was broken …" said Kathryn Enrique, Communications Manager. "We in the industry already knew it had those records, so we already internally knew we were there, but it was made official in November."
The writer is either almost certainly saying the announcement is the Goliath world records - otherwise they would have used a transition to get into talking about Goliath. It's weirdly written, because why call it a "special announcement" if you're going to immediately say what it is, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is.
