Ragin Cajun Confirmed to be Leaving

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Personally though, I would rather have a Gerstlauer spinning ride, then the Zamperla one we just got rid of.

I'm actually a small fan of the Gerstlauer spinning coaster at SFSL. It's more of a kids ride in terms of excitement, but it's a decent ride to just chill in if you've done all the extreme stuff already. It's extremely comfortable; that's it's biggest strength, and that's exactly why it's better than RC.

If they wanted that ride they probably would have kept RC.

^ I think you're exactly right. It's all about what they can successfully market anyway, so putting in a slightly improved version of an old, removed ride wouldn't be very enticing.

When I go to the park I always ride Orbit, STT, and Scenic Railway. I usually ride Little Dipper as well. If the line is too long on days that have alot of families with kids I'll skip it. The capacity of the ride can make the line crawl.

Same as above but add in Columbia Carousel and subtract LD and add Rue Le Dodge but only within the first 15 minutes of park opening and only once unless the line allows for a reride.

I had at one time wanted to ride Ragin' Cajun, but ever since 2004 that interest has waned or I simply just didn't want to give time to it, when that time could be used for the more thrilling coasters like Batman, V2, Superman, Viper, Raging Bull, Eagle, etc.

The lines for that thing were always long, and I always walked past it.
I really couldn't care less if it was leaving.

From what I've seen in photos, the signs are already taken down from the ride. The coaster itself seems to still be fully assembled.

All (or most) of the ride is now gone per the the pieces in the parking lot. They were loading multiple trucks worth of the track with supports and the rest of the ride was in the parking lot behind the truck.

Well for someone who is very busy in real life, this is quite the news to me! I mean yeah RC was not the most extreme of rides and the lines weren't very long, but I personally enjoyed the ride. in my opinion the best decision the park made in the past years was get rid of Iron Wolf. A little off topic, but I think Superman should be next, another uncomortable ride. But I know that park has that ride for bragging rights as well as promotional purposes and just the name too. But anyways back to on topic, I liked the ride, with its extreme spins, it almost felt like it was gonna fall off the track way up there. I was hoping to ride it again this season, and show it to my friend who has never been to Six Flags in all her life. She can't do extreme coasters, more like Whizzer and flats. I know Im late on the news, great to be back, and im excited for the 2014 season around the far corner, but I will miss Ragin Cajun. Thanks for the memories.

They're more intense and painful. That was my least favorite coaster at Magic Mountain in 2013 (X2 was closed so I can't compare to that.)

Yeah, the line often didn't LOOK very long - but it had to be one of the slowest moving in the entire park. As a person who had to (multiple times last season) entertain a two year old while the rest of my family went on the ride, trust me, it was miserable.

I don't care what anyone has to say about my opinion but this ride kicked a*s! Not to mention we were the only park in the chain that had one while the other parks had the "Big Spins". But again, it kicked ass for a little guy. It made me laugh uncontrollably watchin my friends not expecting it to spin & bang you up so "bad". Going to miss it terribly. RIP Ragin' Cajun.

Dark knight 2008, Little Dipper 2010, X-Flight 2012, Goliath 2014, ?????? 2016. If this new coaster every 2 years trend continues, hopefully the park will have something in store for 2016. That will also be Great America's 40th Season. Heck, if they tore down both of the log flumes and axed the remains of the Picnic Grove and moved those events else where in the park, that would open up a Tremendous amount of space to work with. Wishful thinking at the moment, but you never know, Great America has gotten alot of love lately and corporate seems to view our park as a gold mine.

1. They are not going to remove both of the log flumes unless they replace them with another water ride(s). They are still both very popular.
2. Where would they move the events that are normally held in the picnic grove? Nowhere, they will stay in the picnic grove.
Bottom line is that the flumes and picnic grove are here to stay.
We could possibly see a new roller coaster in the spot where the Southwest Amphitheater currently sits. Either there or they would have to remove a ride or roller coaster to put a new one in unless they get extremely creative with the way they will build roller coaster around and over other things and where they will be.
Hopefully for the 40th anniversary, the park will get something similar to what King's Dominion is currently receiving. Honestly though, for 2016, the 40th anniversary, I would rather see alot of new paint on rides, roller coasters, buildings, making the park look more like it did in the Marriott days (hopefully they will remove the igNight stage so we can see the train station in Hometown Square by then too) and just overall care for and repair the park instead of getting a new ride or roller coaster. Hopefully we will see alot of unique merchandise for the 40th anniversary too. I hope that Columbia Carousel also gets repainted and the roof redone so it looks the way it did when it first opened. Lastly, hopefully the trains will be completely redone/rebuilt (keeping the same look and charm) for the 40th anniversary because because are currently in such bad shap and condition with the paint, ceilings, and many other things

I have this idea that the next coaster would go around the Flumes and tunnel underneath the picnic groves. The station would be where Cajun is now. Or where V2 is if they remove that.

That way we get a new coaster and not have to remove anything. Ideally, I'd love to see a Premier Rides LIM Looping Coaster. Full Throttle was a really good coaster.

I love our flumes but I could see something happening in that area. Maybe down size or get rid of them and maybe downsize or get rid of rapids and you open up alot of space with Mardis Gras. The Mardis Gras area of the park and surrounding areas could be a good spot to do something new in the future. Could be a dark ride (Hank did say he wants a dark ride at ACE. He even said they were considering a dark ride for IWs spot.)
Edit: You could also use some or all of wilderness theatre and picnic grove.

The single rider line was rarely over 10 minutes. Odd how that was the only coaster at SFGAm to have one unless I'm forgetting one.

Why can't they build above/around the flumes or rapids? Shock Wave built over Splash Canyon at Drayton Manor, Europa Park kinda did it with Blue Fire and the Rapids Ride, Thunder River at Six Flags St. Louis has Mr. Freeze in it, Log Flume at Nick Universe goes near the coaster, Riptide at Six Flags Great Adventure with Adventure Rivers, California's Great America practically built a Waterpark around their log flume, The flume at Morey's Piers, Rim Runner at Adventuredome, and probably more that I can't remember.

I love the idea of ampin up the park, fluffing it up with new paint, remodeling etc!! However with that I have to say I'd love a new family coaster.

The park has removed a great family roller coaster so I say replace it with another. We focused so many years on gaining family attractions that to take out one of the greatest family rides is/was a stupid move in my opinion. If capacity was a true issue, then why doesnt anyone ever complain about Little dippers? Its because the guests know its a "kid coaster" or family attraction. Its a small ride, so build another cute but fun family coaster & tbh, I could see this: http://www.vekoma.com/index.php/family- ... -boomerang being perfect!!!
