Where they are not gaining enough profit is with admission. Now, they have Buy One Get One Free which is $56.99 for 2 days. That's only $28.50 a day. A carnival charges $20 for 4 hours (usually during their worst part of the day or night / first night / during the day when it's hot out), and they are spending a lot less money on those rides compared to a $15 - $20 million roller coaster. And the season pass prices are a complete gift to anyone that gets them. When people say they are expensive, are they really joking? They really need to start looking at other amusement places around them. If look at a place like Magic Waters season pass (That's only a waterpark run by a park district), it's $90 if you are a resident.
For right now at Kings Island, they have for all the Cedar Fair parks, and parking, it's $165 per person!! For regular, it's $106 at Cedar Point. Busch Gardens is $109 which I think is kind of low for that area, but yet it's off the beaten path from Disney World. To really make a profit, you either cut the adding rides every year, or start raising admission / season pass prices. I guess for admission though I see $57 as high enough, but instead of de-valuing the park, they really need to not give so much off that $57. Six Flags problems are obvious especially in regards to pricing.

The lifetime pass was a publicity stunt done by Legoland executives to get the parks name more coverage in the media, I doubt any more than a couple people have bought it.
If GAm offered it, I'd buy!!! Considering the Legoland annual pass is $130, the pass would be paid off in 19 years. If SFGAm continued to offer a single SP for $75, 20 years would make the lifetime pass $1500. Good investment, in my opinion. unless, obviously, the company tanks.
Zbarone wrote:It's either that or keep the current food prices as it stands. Who really wants to pay $10-15 on a meal that just consists of a burger, fries, and a drink. Allowing ppl to eat at in the parking lot or at Mcdonalds etc doesn't help their profits at all
Not having god awful food and merchandise at insane prices easy solutions. Charging them for not spending is not and would kill the chain. Then again, all of this is mute as it won't happen.
Ok, well I know this topic has been inactive for a couple weeks, but here is my speculation on what the park will be like in ten years, just for kicks.
Actually, I take that back, here is what I would prefer the park to be like in ten years.
-Admission price will probably be raised by 15-20%.
-Since park attendance has seemingly increased due to more family oriented rides and activities, perhaps a teen/adult oriented coaster/thrill ride section could be initiated, similar to the age requirements for Necropolis (do they still do that? It's been awhile since I've attended F.F.) on a medium to large scale. OR, have specific themed days for this age group with NO little ones allowed. I love kids and all, but since I don't have them, I'd like to see something offered specifically for my demographic. It wouldn't have to be all the time, just once in awhile. It would possibly make lines shorter, and help people like me to get their money's worth.
-I would also enjoy an exact replica of Raging Bull in another area of the park, to cut down on wait times for this magnificent beast of a ride. It is my fave.
-I'm on the fence with Iron Wolf - it was cool back in the 90's when I had never heard of a stand up roller coaster, but I don't ride it anymore due to the roughness and pain that inevitably ensues. The thrill is gone. I would hope they'd put up something more fun in its place.
-I've been saying this for years, and I am happy some things have remained the same throughout the years, but we have to admit, SFGAM is not even close to Marriot's Great America days, or the newer Six Flags days. Bring back all the themed music sections, the themed sections in the lines for Batman (Remember all that graffiti?), the decorations and such from the line area for Viper, and the characters. The only costumed characters I saw on my last visit were Wonder Woman and Robin.
-Lower food and drink prices. More people will eat in the park instead of bringing a picnic lunch or leaving to grab a bite at a lower cost. The current prices are outrageous, and do not encourage the average cash strapped college student or family to partake in the edibles that are currently being offered. Lower food prices = greater profits = more money to be spent on rides and attractions.
-Less people jumping out at me, trying to sell me something. You can only politely nod and say "No Thanks" a few dozen times before it gets to be tiresome and irritating.
-Another wooden coaster should be added, and Viper should remain.

Tony Hawk did
And if you take in inflation, it pays itself off in about 15-18 years.

While I Agree on "Publicity Stunt" for Merlin. Legoland Florida isn't alone
Who do you think is going to pay $3000 for a Six Flags Lifetime Pass when it's so cheap to get a season pass? A season pass is less than $100. It doesn't pay for itself in 52 visits, it pays for itself in 30 or so years (considering the price of a season pass is the same now as it was 10+ years ago I am going to go with $100 as the variable price). Nobody that can afford to pay that much is going to be young enough to make that worth it.
I don't know about that analogy, I would have no problem buying a season pass for SFGAm theres no way in hell i'd buy one for Legoland (even if I had little kids, i'd rather pay less and get more at SFGAm, there is a lot of kids stuff between the theme and water park). Legoland does have the aquarium but the AP that includes that is $180.
Also Six Flags is the #3 player in the theme park business in terms of attendance behind Disney and Merlin. (anyone else remember back when SF used to used that for advertising that they were #2 in the states? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIxaVhHh4Pw so while they may be a "cheap regional theme park company" they still have a major role in the overall business. To me the Legoland parks are smaller and target a much higher income demographic, when I first started looking at the prices for Legoland my jaw dropped almost to the floor. A 1 day ticket without the waterpark or aquarium is $70. If you are in socal and you can either go to a small park and look at Lego's for $70 (no waterpark or aquarium) or go to one of the best theme parks in the world for the day for $10 more.
Hmm let me think...while I listen to music to refrence myself
#1 Iron Wolf, Demon and Whizzer gone #2 Eurofighter, Mega lite or Shuttle type ride to fill the gaps left by those ^^^ #3 Condor gone #4 Giant Drop renovated #5 New Thrill Rides! Like a Giant S&S swing. #6 Imax theater leaving and Hurricane harbor expanding into that area. #7 Go carts leaving (No one really uses them often anyways) #8 Water rides renovated
Xlight total rides: 50 times and in every row except front row left wing.

Looking back in the last 10 years, we have lost a ton of rides and got a lot of hit/miss stuff in return. Families got something almost every year. Thrill seekers got something big back in 2003/2004 and not much since. Six Flags Inc. has changed so much it is difficult to say what they will come up with next. We still have the area in County Fair that needs to get something in 2012 and we have 1-4 rides near the end of their life (this decade). What do you see happening in the next 10 years?
#1 We will lose at least one of the three (if not all) Whizzer, Demon and Wolf. #2 We will get a major coaster in 3-6 years that will change our park forever. #3 Hurricane Habor will become seperate entry after another addition in a year or two. #4 The flume water rides will be torn down and replaced by a newer type. #5 The park will try to get back to its roots more and more (like they are doing now with music changes) and more people will be checking out Great America.
Sorry about the old thread bump, but look how prophetic the first post in this thread was. Lost the Wolf in late 2011 and now actually 2 new major coasters by 2014. I'd say things are looking up for the short term, anyways.
I wish the food prices would be priced more reasonably. I'd much rather not have to hike back to my cooler in the car, but I don't like emptying my wallet like that either.
"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."
The OP was just about exactly right. I think he will be right about the flumes too. They'll just be too old. He was especially right about them going back to their roots as well, with the looney tunes cartoons playing at every queue. I'm very excited about where the park is going. I just hope the theming comes back.
"Everyone, listen to me! These jerks killed Superboy. They've tried to kill us. Now they say they're going to tear this city apart. I say... like hell."
I just can't see our theming coming back. The park keeps putting in rides that have a totally different theme than the surrounding area. I really like the theme of X Flight but honestly it has nothing to do with County Fair and Goliath won't have the same theme as the area either so I don't see any of our theme coming back to be honest.
^ County Fair isn't really a coherent them to stick with anyways. Even Marriott didn't stick to the County Fair theme. I don't remember seeing many demons at my local fair.
That being said, I don't ever see the themes coming back to the extent that they used to be, but I think for the most part they've done a decent job keeping the themes intact (except for the DC rides). Better than the other Six Flags parks at least. The one area that I get annoyed with though is the food stands. Was it really necessary to paint the lemonade stand in the mission neon green and then slap a giant lemon on it? Same with the one in Yukon - those look so tacky and out of place.
In the next 10 years. I expect 1 of the theme areas to be rethemed, Demon gone along with Superman. Amplitheatre gone or made up into something else. More water park expansion.

They could always call is crop duster or air show, now goliath is a difficult one... rodeo, wild mustang, Bronco? DEMON back to turn of the century?
I would say that gate admission will probably have gone up to about 75.99 as itseems to be the latest trend for prices to go up every year by 1.00 or more. Sad but the flumes gone possibly refubished maybe even rebuilt entirely. STT with its current problems It too may be gone , DEMON definately gone Possible condor removal. Hopefully TDK gone and something better put in. Something in Trailblazer's spot, Pictorium upgrade to a 4d or dbox theater or removel fo more HH BS. Really who knows its basically dealers pick and whatever whim they feel like going on.

Why would Superman Be Gone? It's a great ride and is very popular. Only Flaw is long line and the ride itself is kind of short.

I think because its both popular and unpopular at the same time, if that makes sense. People like the new flying experience, but others are upset Shockwave was uprooted. Overall It is a good concept for a coaster, but too short, and too confimed for that area. That space begs for something bigger. Besides I think when Goliath his the skyline Lines will really drop, and then eventually like everything else SUF will fade and it will be the same thing all over again people will love/hate the new ride.
I feel like they should've originally put Superman in the spot where X-Flight is, had replaced Iron Wolf with X-Flight, and waited to take out Shockwave until Goliath was announced.
