Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I must say compared to some other parks, our park is really dark at night with the exception of some catwalks. I would love if they added some lighting effects to some certain rides such as Eagle at night and add props throughout the themed section that turn on at a certain hour.

I kind of think American Eagle is too far away from the show if it is in Hometown Square. Condor and Sky Trek Tower make sense, but American Eagle is all the way on the other side of the park.

^I would love to see Superman actually get lighting effects, and Raging Bull. Just too dark really. I figured Sky Trek Tower had to be involved with the new stuff somehow. When anyone sees multiple head up people by a ride (not just supervisors, but higher up), or something else, what else would they be doing? Just glad it's not going.

Perhaps the main show will be focused in Hometown Square but have new big lighting additions in every themed area of the park. For example have Hometown completely decked out all over but Carousel Plaza just have STT lit up, County Fair have Eagle lit up, Orleans Place have Superman lit up, ect.

If they went through the trouble to hype up a light show by making it look like something better I will be so irritated! I don't go to the park to watch lights/shows. Maybe it would be cool for a 5 year old, but it won't be something I stick around to watch!

I wouldn't mind seeing a coaster run backwards!

I really don't care for any of the rides we currently have to run backwards. I liked Eagle backwards last year, but not sure that I really care to have that moving forward. Well, not if they are going to re-theme that as something new.

I think I'm dreading the next few hours. Am I greedy, yes! Do I want something more on top of X-Flight, yes! I'm sorry, but it's hard not to be jealous when another Six Flags park keeps pumping out rides year-after-year, I'm talking to you Magic Mountain, and when another park completely renders the new ride obsolete and boring because of the massive size and length--Gatekeeper.

I want MOOOOOOOORE!!!

Sorry for consecutive posts, but does anyone actually ride Yankee Clipper? Tear that down and finda way to make a sweet Dive coaster that goes over and under the log flume! What a waste of space!

Sorry for being so irritated and in such a bad mood-just read screamscape and in addition, I'm not liking the posts I see on hear nor on GA's Facebook page.

Screamscape said...
"If the rumors are true Six Flags Great America’s new addition to going to shock a few people. The park will attempt to put on a big night party style event similar to Cedar Point’s Luminosity, which itself is based on Disney’s successful events in California: ElecTRONica and Mad T Party. I’m told the working title for this event is “IG-NIGHT!”, which is interesting, but if they don’t have fireworks or some kind of pyro, I call foul. As such, the park is apparently dying to find a way to re-brand one of their existing steel coasters as a new attraction by running it backwards: like we saw with Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast at SFOT and SFSL. The choices are a little slim here however, though I do have to wonder about the confirmed reports of Batman: The Ride running backwards early one morning at the St. Louis park over the summer."

Thats exactly why they would have to hype it. A new coaster can just be built and people will be excited. Things like new shows need to be hyped to get people to talk about them.

NO. Yankee Clipper is tons of fun and is not a waste of space. I know it isn't open often, but when it is it can get pretty long lines. If you guys want a park with roller coaster after roller coaster after roller coaster, go to Magic Mountain or Cedar Point. Great America is a park with history, and is know for being one of the most (if not the most) well rounded park in the Six Flags chain, and of major parks in general. Stop trying to ruin a great park by saying everything needs to be replaced with big new roller coasters. Theme parks need more than just roller coasters to be great. If it's so god awful to that you we get a new show DON'T GO. That's one less person people who actually appreciate the park have to deal with. Just be happy we aren't the other Great America with 8 roller coasters.

I'm sorry for ranting but some of the posts about this sounds like they came straight from the mouths of an uninformed GP member. Enthusiasts are supposed to be the people who understand that theres more to parks than just rides and why shows and other things are needed in a park. I for one would welcome a new nighttime event. If you disagree, fine. But be smart enough about it to see how it would help the park rather than just complaining that we don't get 500 foot mega coasters every year. Oh, and the park does the read the forums. Atleast try to make enthusiasts look good so they don't think we're all just whiny kids who are never happy with what we get.

Hello -

I moved to Florida from Chicago back in 2000. I come back to Chicago a few times EACH YEAR, but I must admit I stopped going to Great America because the lack of new thrill rides. Some people on this site are making comments that it would be greedy or selfish for us to get another coaster for 2013, however what we all must remember is Six Flags Great Adventure, and Six Flags Magic Mountain flourished during the Shapiro years, while Six Flags Great America (the third most visited Six Flags park) was shafted.

You have to think about the history of Great America and rollercoasters. In 1981 American Eagle opened as the World's Tallest and fastest coaster. In 1988 Shockwave opened as the new World's tallest coaster at 170 Feet. It was also the first banking steel drop, and the first coaster to invert riders 7 times. In 1990 Iron Wolf was introduced as the World's tallest, fastest, and longest standup coaster. In 1992 Batman the Ride opened as the World's first inverted outside looping coaster. In 1995 Viper was added as a near clone of the Georgia Cyclone (which is a mirror image of the world famous Coney Island Cyclone) . The big difference is the Georgia Cyclone / Coney Island Cyclone does not have the famous double dip that was added to the Viper on the 4th drop. In 1999 Raging Bull was introduced as the World's first Hyper Twister coaster, as well as the world's first open air sideless carts. Finally in 2001 Deja Vu was added as the world's largest boomerang coaster. Vertical Velocity was also added as the world's tallest inverted launch coaster during the same year.

Since 2001 there have been no record breaking coasters as Superman Ultimate Flight was a cloned non record hold ride, and X Flight opened after Wild Eagle in Dollywood.

So for a park that has experienced a long history of great coasters, its really hard to see that Six Flags Great America dropped out of the race. Now I can understand if Six Flags is / was having money problems, however it was hard to see Six Flags Great Adventure, and Magic Mountain continue to add coasters to their parks with admissions paid by Great America's customer base.

Dont get me wrong, all park's need shows, flats, parades, ect. But Great America has had their fair share of family based attractions for 9 years and now its time to bring the park back to its glory days and put Six flags Great America back on the map.

I dont expect all coasters to break records, but what I do expect is Great America to bring one of a kind thrills and not clone coasters and rides.

BTW before I close.......

Since Hank has said many times that the park cannot expand due to the park being land locked, why doesn't Great America open a parking lot structure/Garage on the back end of the Overflow parking lot (Similar to what Universal Orlando did). I looked at Google Earth and measured it and it appears that two large parking structures can be built in the overflow parking lot with room remaining. The rest of the parking lot can then be built to hold a resort hotel, along with a new City Walk type venue. This could also easily allow Great America to add a separete gate to Hurricane Harbor so they can have a two park system similar to Universal Orlando.

If anyone gets time go to google earth and look at what im talking about. You will see there is plenty of room for Great America to grow. The parking garages should also drown out any noise the expansion may cause so those ridiculously annoying neighbors can stop complaining at the board meetings about noise. I find it so funny that people move next to a huge theme park and complain about noise.

Sorry for the double post.

Food for thought....

How many people ride Demon anymore? Last time I was at the park Demon has gotten really rough? Looking at the park on Google Earth I can see that for a coaster that is only 2100 feet long it sure takes up A LOT OF SPACE. On the park map it doesn't look like a lot of room, however on Google Earth I can see the ride actually takes up a huge amount of space. If they were to remove Demon then there would be a huge space for a new coaster. In addition if they removed the Pictorium theatre they have another huge spot for a coaster since all of that area is wooded and there is much space between that and whizzer.

That would be a great option for the future without having to tear down Yankee Clipper. I personally would love to see them remove the picnic grove area since its not used much unless it is fright fest (has this changed?) I dont think they would ever do that since that back area is too close to houses in the back. Don't want to have those noise complaints (Ridiculous).

LOVE IT!!! This is exactly what a historic park like Great America needs. Back in it's heyday, Marriott's Great America was a real theme park, on par with Disneyland. Its nice to see some fun, clean entertainment for a change. Roller coasters are good, but the park was always meant to be family fun and I think a show like this will bring in the crowds. There will be characters and fireworks for the kids, and amazing special effects for the adults. As people were discussing above, I think this will put Great America back on the map. I just hope realllllyyy badly that they use the old music from the Marriott days. Thanks SFGAm, you can count on me to be there when it opens :) .

Different strokes for different folks "DeathbyDinn." Never said I didn't understand the family concept. But as the post after yours mentioned, it's the fact that for several years the park actually has removed a coaster for the enthusiasts by only adding X-Flight to counter the departures of Iron Wolf and Deja Vu.

The additions of Little Dipper, The Dark Knight and Buccaneer Battle, don't really do much for the older crowd. Again, not saying I am against the family concept, it's more important now than ever before, but I think the idea for many is to adhere to the thrill-seekers now. As you yourself even mentioned, the key to success is to have a well-rounded park that offers fun for everyone--perhaps this show, should have been added a few years ago.

Wholeheartedly agree with the poster who mentioned the disappointment factor for many when they wake up this morning. Does anyone believe this show alone will bring in more people?

Something also new is the Gold Pass. It now makes our trip to St.Louis even better that we can buy our 5 passes there $15.00 cheaper and get the free Six Flags parking on all passes!
Waiting to fill this space with something stupid to say!

It might not bring in the same amount of people as a thrill ride, or X-Flight, but it will make people stay in the park longer. The longer people are in the park, the more $$$ they spend in the park.

Good addition in my opinion.
