Rumor :: Whizzer to be Removed after this season

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Is Whizzer even running right now?

Every time I have been there, it has been running like a champ.

I was hoping that the whizzer would not be taken out, but as it now stands it will be taken down at the end of the season. It is not a maintenance issue that it will be removed but a cost issue. The whizzer uses electric motors in each of it's trains to propel it up the spiral. The motors cost 250,000 dollars each to replace. There are four motors per train and 3 trains. That is a cost of 3 million dollars a year to keep the whizzer going. That money will be used to build as part of funds for a new coaster as well as improvements to the park starting with county fair to get it back up to where it should be.

Wait, the motors that cost a huge amount of money need to be replaced each year?

I need a source or I call BS.

I'll call it - BS!. Lincoln large frame industrial motor medium voltage (>600v) for a 200hp model is only $11,349. Now ganted for an apllication such as Whizzer, you would more than likely need something in the 300-400hp range - but I don't see it costing 250 k for a new motor. Even a complete teardown and rebuild of the current motor shouldn't be more than $30,000, and there is no way that you have to replace the motor every season. Most industrial motors are rated thousands of hours before need for even an inspection.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.

GEEZ MAN!!! If you can't provide proof to your claims, don't
post them! Geez, Whizzer (unfortunatly) isn't going anywhere!

And I've heard the same rumors you have and you know what?
They're false! With those same rumors, just put everything
together, and it'll show you that the rumor WON'T happen!

Even the people who told me the rumor don't even have solid
sources. People, if you have no proof, if you have no sources
to back up your claims, just shut up! I know you'll ask, where
is my proof that this won't happen!

Easy!!!!

#1: No Trees have been removed from Whizzer. Lots of people say,
a bunch of trees have been removed, um, I was just there and I didn't
see any signs of tree removal, heck, I saw 2 new little trees.

#2: Six Flags hasn't received permission to build a new coaster by
the City. About once a week, I visit Gurnee's Website and I read
the City Board Minutes to see if anything is happening, and guess what?
Six Flags never approached the city to build a new coaster. Anything
over 100 Feet tall has to get approval.

#3: The "rumored" B&M wouldn't fit in the area of Whizzer. It's to
small for it. If they did build one, it would suck and not be very
intense! It needs an area the size of Raging Bull!

That's it of my rant! Please, provide proof and sources before you
start to make claims!

Needs an area the size of Raging Bull!!!? HA! yeah right. judging by what B&M guy said it's going to be a diving coaster (not that I believe him) which DOES NOT need to be in a space as large as Raging Bull and it still will be intense. Get your facts straight. And I know what your going to say: "you newbies don't know anything," and that's just your excuse because you know I'm right.

Prove to me and everyone else on this forum that we're getting a B&M
Coaster. Prove to us that Whizzer is going! Come on!! PROVE IT!!

Lets see what crap you throw at us next!

How can you say "we", do you work at SFGAm or something. No one can prove their sides, people have beliefs on things, and their beliefs can be backed up by facts and evidence, but there is no way for either side to prove anything. So stop saying PROVE IT!! Neither side will or can prove that the other is false and their side is true. I have my beliefs on this topic, but I really am not going to say anything. After saying just one thing, all of you people will need proof.

And all of you newbies that just come to post to say we are getting it or arent getting it, please dont. This topic is just better off dead, so stop coming and bringing this topic back, it has been dead twice and brought back by newbies.

He said 'we' because Great America is our/his homepark! When you're speaking of the navy/army don't you say "We're in Iraq doing blah blah..."? It's because the army/navy, etc is part of our country.

We feel a sense of pride when we say "we" to something, it makes us feel part of something great. Remember, Great America is nothing without its loyal customers.

Finally someone who doesn't critisize...This topic is a rumor, and people write what they think is going to happen and that is what they're doing...they don't need to prove it. If they want to believe were getting a 600 foot coaster, then let them. It's only going to embarass them when we don't get it. And I never said I believed were getting a diving coaster, thats just what he thinks and it sounded like he was doing it to annoy all of you people.

Compleatly unfounded rumors arn't welcome here. I believe this topic has lasted so long, because some of the people have been able to try and explain their point thus far (tree clearing, lack of fastlane, etc). Rumors that people just make up or seem 100% bunk are not helpful to the convesation and often are deleted.
