^I got a similar survey when I was visiting Six Flags St. Louis. I was on the Six Flags website searching on the Great America page and I was asked to complete a survey. Towards the end I was asked about 1 of 4 rides, ZacSpin, Boomerang, Disco Coaster, and one other coaster. I don't remember too much about the survey other than when I was visiting the Six Flags America page I was given another survey with no questions relating to coasters. Not sure what to make of it.
Does anyone else know when season passes normally go on sale? I had this thought that if Great America was going to announce something huge that they would start selling passes on 8/30 because people would be emotionally invested in next year; turns out, I hear a rumor that season passes go on sale 8/30. Any truth to these rumors and am I making more out of this than what I should?

I just think there would be more found out about a big brand new roller coaster at the park. I think if no one knows much about anything, than it probably won't be that good. The only things that people have been talking about are American Eagle, and the Dark Knight. If they were to retheme a ride like the Dark Knight, the park for sure is going to consider it a new coaster because they rethemed it. It's different, blah.. blah... They did it with SFGAdv Bizzaro which was Medusa, and they did it with Superman Ride of Steel also changing it to Bizzaro. Don't forget X to X2 or Superman the Escape to Superman Escape from Krypton.
The way things are going with this new President, it really seems like he's sort of trying to undo the stuff that the other guy did such as getting rid of Tony Hawk, Wiggle's World, etc brands. So, I wouldn't be surprised if he does redo The Dark Knight because I think it was a failure. Shapiro was really trying to trick people (especially teens) that it was more of a thrill ride than a mouse coaster in a box. If they spend money on retheming that ride, I think it will be the biggest waste of money they could ever think of. I think in general a mouse coaster is going to fail with teens no matter what. That ride should just considered a family coaster, and that's it. It shouldn't be themed Batman at all unless it's more of a campy Batman ride like Batman Brave and the Bold or like the old Batman tv show. A lot of teens think the ride is too boring, and right now I think it's still too scary for a family coaster. Scary such as getting shot at, clowns with knifes & guns, and black light.. How would using another edgier Batman movie help that ride at all?
I wouldn't mind seeing a Disko or Disko Coaster where Ragin Cajun is. However, for the Disko coaster I don't think that ride is that great. I think it's an okay ride, but it's not like I have to ride another Disko coaster. It's an okay flat ride. I still would like to see another Flying bobs ride, or a Wipeout much more than a Disko coaster.

I'm spoiled after getting X-Flight. I know Great America won't get a coaster every year, but I would rather wait 5 to 10 years to get something huge than get something like a Disko Coaster or a Skyscreamer. They do nothing for me and are a complete waste of $10+ million.
I want bigger and better, and I've just about come to the conclusion that I'm going to be upset on August 30th. I want something to believe in and I want to be happy, but I've seen and heard nothing to make me feel good. Someone keep me sane and tell me I'm wrong; please?

yes xflight spoiled us after not having anything for alot of years... we have seen great america add two coasters in a year before. What is to stop them from putting 1 in two years in a row. IMHO nothing.
(but i still think whatever we get will be green lantern theme. Thats why i think we will get a ZS)
if we get a zac spin coaster...i would be pleased sfgam got 2 coaster in a 2 year period but its capacity is terrible and wouldnt catch me riding it often due to everyones hype of a new coaster and it being a 2+ hr wait
The zac spin, disco etc have been on ride surveys for other parks as well. I think right now they're just trying to get a feel as to how people would respond to them, and then they'll decide if and/or where they'll build them.
A Zac Spin could be under the 125ft height limit without approval, right? Isn't the one at Magic Mountain under 125ft? If it is a Zac Spin, I would be disappointed if it was the same layout as the MM one. It probably would be if this were to happen. There are no rumors for a Zac Spin though, so I doubt we will get one.
I wouldn't mind getting a ZacSpin due to the fact we got X-Flight this year. If we were to have gotten just a ZacSpin but no Wing Rider or any other major roller coaster, it would be looked at as a so-so addition. A ZacSpin is a great ride to add following up a major thrill the year after or even to pair up with another coaster or flat ride the same year. It's above 100 ft, adds to the park's coaster count, compact, inexpensive, and all around an attention grabber so it's a win win for the park and guests. The only down side is the capacity, especially the first year it's open and I heard they break down frequently.
Top 3 Steel Coasters: 1. The Incredible Hulk 2. Maverick 3. Dragon Challenge (Fireball)

Green Lantern at SFMM has proven that Six Flags + Intamin ZacSpin = Epic Operational Failure. No thanks, we already have Ragin' Cajun to run like a piece of crap.

I wouldn't ride it if it was a zacspin.. the new ride at MM looks very boring and it looks like it hurts and X2 I wouldn't ride no way. . i like seeing where i'm going not having a seat that will spin on me whenever it feels like. . lol i like being locked in place and facing forward. I'd probably get sick LOL. I hope it is something good but all the clues have been annoying and not informative to me at all.. another coaster would be awesome . . rethemeing AE like the texas giant would be totally cool i'd ride it again.. too rough for my neck these days. but i'm not keeping my hopes up just waiting to see and if its something cool great.. if not we got Xflight and I'm good with that for awhile. .
I've been on rides like Hades, Mean Streak, and The Beast but American Eagle is still no where near as rough as those. Actually The Beast isn't all that bad but still rougher than AE. I don't think a complete AE makeover is necessary but more comfortable trains, fresh paint, smoother lift, and updated station/queue is welcomed. Then again if they were to do all that they might as well just update the entire ride and call it a new attraction for 2013 which wouldn't surprise me at all. It's hard to check on mobile but did someone say they can't even upgrade Eagle all that much because they no longer own the property?
If this is only a kid's section it wouldn't make sense as to why they are posting clues and stuff for us. Why would they post stuff on their social media pages (FB, Twitter, YouTube) and get us involved for something that's not even intended for anyone above 7 years old. I'm sure some parents follow SFGAm on FB or Twitter who have younger kids but I'm sure they could care less about the clues.
There has to be something more than a kid's section else they are better off just making the announcement on August 30th without getting people thinking and then disappointed once they find out it's not even for their age group. Of course people would be disappointed regardless but more people would be mad since they made some hype about this leading up to the 30th and then have it be something they can't even ride or participate in.

^That's what I have been thinking. I bet that there will be something to attend to the teens and older crowds. I really don't care for shows, as I never see them, but I would if something like the Iluminate thing at (SFOG?) came here. I would feel the same about a fireworks show or parade, as I never stay to watch those.
And I'm not sure about not being able upgrade Eagle, but I know they can't tear it down and still build things on its plot of land. Too close to the highway.
Well, just stopping on in to say that the pure stupidity of some people make me shake my head. If you have been paying attention at all the last 5 years you know that American Eagle is going nowhere. Park management has said it over and over again, and why that idea has even been brought up blows my mind. Just drop it. If we ever see AE come down it would certainly be evident before they announced it.
On to the topic at hand, I have to give SFGAm props. They've covered this up so nicely that the people I know who have inside info have no clue as to what our 2013 attraction will be. I've had a good handle on the park's additions for the past two years, but they have me stumped. Very nice job management.
Based on my info from viewing Great America's official 5 year plan, interviews with park management, and knowledge from around the coaster world, I can assure you this: 2013 WILL bring us a thrill ride.
Park management has said they have no new plans to build a kiddie area any time soon, and Hank has assured us that the park is now in a period of time to satisfy the thrill seekers.
While I'm fairly certain this years plans don't bring us our world-class coaster (next year, my friends ), I know that 2013 will be a year of thrill. I can't confirm that it will be a Skyscreamer, but I'm sure there's at least a decent shot that's what it is. 2013 will bring Hometown square a much needed thrill ride.
Top 5: 1) El Toro. 2) Maverick. 3) Millenium Force. 4) Diamondback. 5) X2. Coaster Count: 167 (41 Wood, 125 Steel) @Coaster_Cole on Twitter
^^^I think you guys are overthinking that aspect. The PR people are going to use whatever resources they have to get a message about the new stuff that's coming. If it was just a kiddie area, what are they not going to hype it up at all? They are PR people. That's the point, to hype everything & anything up. Facebook is really helping make their job easier than before. Two things you should know about pr people. They will over hype the greatest AND junkiest rides, water stuff, and shows because that's their job, and they won't tell you diddly squat until something is announced.

Please, no. Unless it's way in the back over by Orbit, any thrill ride, especially a Sky Screamer would look so horribly out of place in Hometown Square. I'd love another thrill ride for the park, but there are much better places to put one than in Hometown Square.
Again, as I asked before, someone please tell me the fascination with Skyscreamer? Was on the one at St. Louis, and it was awful. What a waste of several million dollars. Not to mention the fact that when i went back later it was down most of my 3 days at the park.
Different people like different things and Sky Screamers are pretty cheap rides to buy and are very marketable and so far they have proven exceedingly popular with the General Public. Not that common sense has a place around these parts anymore....

The only reason I see people getting in a frenzy over that ride is due to Fear of Heights. I think both the Windseekers & Skyscreamers are okay rides, but I do think they are over-rated. Just swings high up in the air. I believe the more people go on it in a year, the less they will be afraid of it being so high up in the air, and than you will see less people riding it because it's not as scary as it used to be. Cedar Fair & Six Flags are buying them not for the reason that they are the best rides in the world, but rather as FParker said, they are very easy to market. Those 2 rides are really high up in the air, and people just have this fascination with tallest, and fastest. If it's really tall, or really fast, than it must be a great ride. It also can easily get your attention if you are going down the highway, or just walking around in the park because it's again so high up in the air.

I am old enough to remember the big spending, expansion years, and even then, it was a big ride one year and something like "Condor" or "Dare Devil Dive" in the off years. These days, capital expansion is even less likely, and X-Flight was millions and millions. I expect they *might* announce a clone of the ride for other parks in the chain, and something CONSIDERABLY less costly for GAm, if its a ride at all. I guess we won't be waiting all that long to find out my prognostication abilities...
