I think that there still should be some scary parts of the park, Why not have Hurricane Habor themed as a "Haunted Harbor" or something like that to appeal to the people that liked to be scared etc etc.
The Holiday in the Park idea is brilliant, I cant wait to see how that works.
With the not getting any coasters for 3-4 years thats fine with me as long as Shapiro doesnt forget about the thrill riders all together.
SFGAM looks like its poised to be the Crown Jewel of the chain. Excellent News for Six Flags!
Opening Hurricane Harbor during Fright Fest was discussed a while ago -- it would never work. You'd have morons climbing on the empty waterslides and destroying the glossy finish of the pool bottom (one idea was to actually take guests into the lazy river/pool while it was empty). Then, you'd have people jumping into the empty pool. This is a 12-ft. drop at the deepest with a concrete bottom. Ouch! Really, what's the point of opening Hurricane Harbor during Fright Fest? Would it really be better than Picnic Grove?

Wrong. The deepest pool in Hurricane Harbor is Hurricane Bay which is 5ft. deep. Most of the slide pools are 3-ft deep and Castaway Creek is 2' 8" deep.
Acording to the JPM website http://www.jpmproductions.com , It appears that all will be the same, plus more, including,
NEW (in development) for 2006:
Additional Werewolves in their own area
Southwest Scaritory Characters (return) High profile characters and gunfight show
Additional Vampires
Scooby Doo Mystery Train
Festival de la Muertos Parade
Wizard University in not so scary area
And MORE...
As for using HH during FF - SFSTL did this 2 years ago. They had a roped off trail that went through Hurricane Harbor. It was a kiddie pirate trail. The kids were escorted through the trail by park employees, and they trick or treated with friendly pirates. It had really good theming with fog and light effects as well. It was really neat to see it from above on the first drop of B:TR as well.
Maybe SFGAM could do something like that. With it roped off, there is no room for idiots to go and screw with the waterslides. As for taking them through empty pools and what not - as long as all nozzles and PVC are covered there should be no harm. Way back when SFSTL used to use their Thunder River as a haunted trail. They would empty it, remove the utility poles (thats what creates the whitewater), then cover it with PVC arches with tarp over them.
It's the most fun in the park when your laughing in the dark.

You're forgetting the brown wall at the end of the wave pool. The top of that wall to the water surface adds at least 6 ft.
it would not be that hard to get cheap fencing of some sort to block off area's they dont want people going, i think HAUNTED Harbor would be awsome, and a pretty good scare in my opinion
Now about this "Holiday In The Park" plan. What actual holidays do you think they will be doing? I read in one of those 2 articles something shapiro said about "extending the season." Do you think he will do something with Christmas? I mean that would be awesome. Christmas at Six Flags! I could see a lot of profit and cool things coming from this. What other holidays do you think will be utilized?
Rollercoasters CAN run in the snow, just some cant. Highly doubtful if they do it during Christmas, you'd see coasters running. I would see them getting shows, holiday food, holiday parades, meet santa, and things in that nature.
Universal Orlando Mechanical Engineer Marathon down, Goofy to go.
/\ You'd have to make sure the track doesn't have a foot of snow or anything sitting on it, and that brake sections were all cleared out, but other than that you're right, it should work.
Back to the FF deal. If they do turn it into a toned down family FF, ill be a little disappointed. However, why don't they do what they di in '03. Have home town square and south west scare-itory be toned down places while orleans (seven sins cemetary), mardi gras, and necro be highly scary areas? That to me would be a great compromise.
Just because it would be a family fright fest doesn't mean that they would get rid of the haunted houses. If they did then they really would be losing all their guests.
i hate this idea of a kids fright fest. I loved fright fest last year. If the fright fest is more family oriented, it might scare (hehe, no pun intended) more of the teens away, and I personally think that's where most of their business comes from. I like a lot of Sharpio's other ideas, but i'm not too keen on the family fright fest.
Well like it has been said on these boards before, whatever they decide to do is what will happen. Unfortunately we have no control over it. If I were the CEO i would make Fright Fest the scariest, and most haunting event on the planet. But I bet it will be more just as scary this year, but having the kids areas have more things for the little kids to do. My motto however is "if its too scary for your kids, dont bring them!" Some of you say we have no other choice? Well either dont come to the park, or hire a babysitter. Kids, especially really little ones (1-10 yrs old) dont belong at an event like Fright Fest. But we got many months before we will actually see what Shapiro will decide to do. For all we know the stories about a family friendly fright fest could all be libel (for those of you who arent a journalist or in a class like that , libel is false information). They might not even have a source about the "family friendly fright fest" So my advice is to be patient and see what goes down in the coming months.
Oh, please. You people need to learn to read. Family Fright Fest is a label, that's all. Fright Fest looks to be bigger and better for both kids and teens. The midway characters, characters in NECRO and other parts of the part will be significantly expanded. Southwest Characters return, which is a lot better then 3 rodeo clowns. And for families, Yukon is still the place to be, it looks like the family fun will be a lot more abundant then usual, along with the addition of the "Festival de la(sic) Muertos Parade." Plus with Shapiro's toon rule (the 30-per hour one) you can bet that every area without characters will be plagued by dressed up looney tunes. This include Carousel Plaza, The Entrance and Exit Areas of SWT, Farmers Market, Demon/Vu area, and all of Yukon.
Fright Fest this year is going to be bigger and better for Familys and Teens this year. Shapiro knows that Fright Fest is very popular, so why bother changing it, the point of attracting famlies is to get money, but at a time of year where you already get boatloads of money from the teens-twenties, there's no need to change it...and he's not going to.
This is my opinion. FF attracts too many teens and not enough families. SF does make a lot of money off of too it becuase a lot of people go. I know a few people that want to go to SFGAm in the fall, but they wont becuase its just not family friendly. If they could some how make it more for families, that would be great. I know most of you here will disagree with me becuase you like it how it is now. I really dont know how they could change this without ruining the real theme of FF, but Shaprio could probably think of something good.
SFGAm Shock Wave wrote:^ You shouldn't be revealing that. Bad things can happen.
..Used to happen. Lately the park hasnt done anything to employees posting unless they reveal information which is not yet publically released.

Yes, while this is true, think of this (i'm not really disagreeing here)...
Six Flags does have two plces that are always family friendly, FF or not, Looney Tune National Park and Camp Cartoon Network. Even during FF famiys can go there and the characters put on halloween costumes and have fun with the kids. I saw dracula bugs go on the train with someone. Now, your thinking, so? What about the rest of the park? Well, it you really think about it, FF gives out a pretty good layout to get there. There's two scenarios (if it stays like '05)
1. You go through SSC and mardi gras and get your kids a little scared but then they're right by the two places.OR
2. You take them hrough area 51 which has aliens that im sure most 4- 6 year olds would like (and 1-3 reeally dont care). Then you take them either thruough SWT in the day with nothing there or go over illinois trollway where the trolls interact, not scare (occasionaly they do) then your in county fair and in the clear until you finaly go past iron warewolf and your at the two places.
You can't expect anybody to spend an entire Saturday afternoon just in Yukon Territory. Mr. Shaprio's goal is to make the entire park family-friendly, not just add kiddie sections here and there.
When you take a look at the Magic Kingdom, you see a family-friendly park, right? Yet, the Magic Kingdom is also appealing to teens and adults. Why can't Great America be that way? No one said that family-friendly means anti-everyone else.
