It's 100% TRUE It was posted on Facebook.
The park is in some serious trouble for canceling all these events. They might get sued.
People are being compensated for a shirt they bought. I see no reason for a lawsuit. The midnight event was simply an incentive. You bought a SHIRT, not a TICKET.

How did they not know Saturday that it won't be open in time for that commercial shoot? I'm not mad, as I know I'm too ugly, so I didn't try for it. I do think it looks extremely unprofessional though. They either knew it would be delayed on Saturday, or they're really bad at their jobs. The third option is that something went wrong sometime between Saturday and today. I'm really thinking it's that they knew on Saturday.
I'm not saying sue, but it's a really embarrassing way to promote a new investment.
Well for those who signed up for the commercial shoot, we can probably safely assume that it won't happen. At least not this Friday (5/30/14). But look on the bright side, the event was free.
I don't think the commercial shoot is cancelled. They can't really afford to have it canceled and keep the CG Goloath, unless they decide to use Iron Rattler or Texas Giant for footage.

Yeah, I agree with you there. It seemed like they genuinely thought they would open on the 30th/1st. Not to be debbie downer, but there must have been an unexpected problem in the construction. A commercial shoot is not a cheap thing to plan, just to have to cancell it later. I do find it unprofessional to leave people hanging about the details though. I mean, unless youre following sites like SFGAMworld, how is the GP supposed to know about the delay?

Why would they cancell the T-shirt event then? But you are right. GAm only changed the media day event, but not TECHNICLY opening day...

Not sure.
This may sound silly and dumb but I hope sometime this week Hank Salemi will somehow inform the GP about all the delays and cancellations and why they are happening.
DeathbyDinn wrote:For those asking - It was confirmed by Marcus Leshock through the park earlier that the commercial shoot is postponed.
Thats what im saying, only a few people are told these things by the park, and everyone else is in the dark. PR needs to get thier stuff together... But thanks for the info.
It's really interesting that "the park" / PR / marketing were pushing ahead with media day, a commercial shoot, and evening ride-time to occur so soon. As I said previously, when I was at the park a week+ or so ago, I overheard someone working on the ride (not someone from RMC) tell a member of the GP that the ride should be ready in around 3 weeks, and I would guess that would be the opinion of most people working on the ride. Despite that opinion, the park went ahead with planning everything very early.
Me thinks there needs to be better communication here - that could have helped avoiding these errors in scheduling. At least their new schedule for media day seems to be more reasonable....just hope the weather holds up over the next week+.
This is completely off topic however, I really do want to apologize about how annoying I am and have been about Goliath. I'm truly sorry for panicking and getting you folks annoyed and mad at me. Look all I want is for Goliath to open ASAP. But I realize now that panicking about it and posting ridiculous stuff will not make Goliath open any faster.
I am thinking about maybe not posting in this Thread/Forum for a day or two so you don't have to deal with me.
I'm sorry for all I have done/said in this thread that came across as irritating and stupid to you guys. You guys are GREAT people but I can tell you are getting annoyed with me and thinking I am a troll.

Its understandable, we are all excited and a little annoied about whats been happening. While it might seem like nagging, it just shows how enthusiastic we all are aout having this attraction at SFGaM. I'm sure no one is taking your comments all that offensively.

...Or the Goliath at La Ronde, Magic Mountain (also has a Goliath Jr.!), Georgia, Fiesta Texas, Holland, or New England (this one would be especially hilarious).

Well, now I have an excuse to go the weekend after my school trip on 4 June.
It's frustrating that, even if I wasn't planning on media day, everything was postponed. But really, you can't plan for several weeks where it barely if ever got above 0, with several days reaching -20. Those conditions don't harbor efficient work if any at all.

CoasterMike wrote:The schedule for Goliath is very messed up. First they told the public that it will open on May 24th. Then they told the public that the ride will open on the 31st with media day on May 29th. Next they announced that the midnight madness event would be held on June 1-2 and season pass holder event on Friday May 30th. This past Saturday they announced on Facebook that this Friday (30) they were looking for people to volunteer for commercial shots. I myself and many others signed up for the event. Now all the events are CANCELED!? I'm sure SF will receive a lot of hate for false advertising all these events. Media day is now a week and a half later.
Great America is doing a very BAD advertising the events and opening date for Goliath.
And this is all after Brandon Bruce left. Coincidence? I think not.
It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? (Sorry in advance for unnecessary commas and parenthesis every where)
Ok, so I can mail my Midnight ticket in for exit passes. Can I just turn it in to guest relations on Saturday? That's extremely more convenient. If not, I guess it'll still make a pretty cool book mark.

I am pretty sure you can turn it on to guest relations. That would be so much easier for alot of people so I think you can.
Lots of people seem worried about the park being sued, but I don't really get why they care - yes, it's possible that somebody will sure, anybody can sue for any reason they want. It's much less likely that the park would lose any lawsuit, I'm no lawyer but just reasonably they don't really seem to have caused much in the way of harm to anybody. And if they DID lose a lawsuit? They'd probably be out some free tickets or something - it's not like they'd have to pay out millions in damages. So, basically, don't worry about it.
I'll also say that the timing of all this makes the park look pretty stupid, but also keep in mind that the large percentage of people will have never even heard of the different dates, and most of the people who did know are going to hardcore coaster people who are going to forgive the park anyway. In a few weeks, nobody will even care anymore when the exact opening date was.
Yes it is disappointing that everything was moved back a week. Yes it would have been nice if they had hit the date on the head. Yes it hasnt been handled great but I think its much better than people are giving them credit for. Heres why:
Solution 1: Say opening spring of 2014 and leave it at that so there is no disappointment.
Then people would complain that they cannot plan a trip if they dont know when it will open.
Solution 2: Widely tell everybody right away that everything is being pushed back.
Doing this is the worst thing I have heard all day. Why would they rush into it again just so they can miss another deadline. Hopefully they are learning from their mistakes and getting with people from maintenance, RMC and operations to give a good estimate of when the ride will be ready.
Solution 3: Dont sell the T-Shirts
Somebody already said it. You didn't by a ticket to the event you bought a T-Shirt the event was a perk of having it. Also I have seen speculation that the T-Shirt thing was a scam the whole time. That is th emost ridiculous thing I have eve read. Theme parks cant afford to intentionally scam their major fan bases out of money. Its bad practice for (anybody really) a service industry and the staff at SFGAm know better than that.
Thats just a few ideas I wanted to address. The notion that false advertising has occurred is absolutely absurd. Remember people we are coming off one of the worst winters in quite some time, and the ride is only delayed a week. Secondly let me remind you that this is just one ride. Granted it is one world class ride but I would rather wait the extra week (hell I would even give them 3 extra weeks if they needed it) and make sure that the ride is ready to go from every perspective.
The only criticism I have of Six Flags on this is that they should have followed the lead of Kings Island and started much earlier in the year. It only could have alleviated the timeline a little bit.
Its just a few more days and its just a delayed opening of a roller coaster people (Its not like they are charging you per ride). No need to go nuclear over that, and besides we are still getting what looks to be a phenomenal ride.
