CHANG WATCH: The Official Topic

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Yeah its only at a 45degree angle :/ very odd considering (I believe) Mantis' drop is a lot different. I swear CP gets everything engineered differently. Look at mantis on the first drop its curvy most of the way down, looks a lot steeper & has the obvious trim. The Scurve is a lot tighter as well. I have a lot of people to back that up, seein I can't say too much other than visually for Chang, I haven't been on both. Now Riddler...mmm now that's a standup! ;)

I have done Mantis but not Chang... The Mantis drop does seem steeper...

http://rcdb.com/7.htm?p=26

IW has a steeper drop than Chang it seems ...even at its measly 90-100 feet

It took me some time after workin it by starrin at it all day that Mantis' first drop snaps out of the bank turnaround(on your right side) then drops down curving a little to the left then leveling out right into the trim. Chang doesn't seem to have that curvature.

I think I know why there where two height variances requested for the ride.

http://rcdb.com/275.htm?p=16995

Taking a look at that picture, obviously you have the 150 foot lift hill, RCDB lists the 1st drop at 144 feet, I wonder if that turnaround into the first drop is actually 137 feet tall resulting in the need for a second variance.

Just an idea.

At the meeting it was said the variances are for the lift and drop.

but that makes no sense! Cause then "everyone" has either lied or not know what was up! I heard it was for the loop but that would give it the tallest LOOP in the world! & right now, that title is & has been under Dominator!

^Wha?
He said the 137 foor varience was for an element. I don't know if you can count that little drop thing an element but I geuss they didn't know what else to call it.

When I rode Chang I was plesently surprised. It was smooth as glass, even during the corkscrews and at some points it could get intense. My only hope is that they get operate with both trains really quickly or with 3 because at SFKK they would have one train operation and the line would crawl.

How about this. Image Batman on a July day running one train. Yeah. Not a pretty picture, that's why they NEED three trains. Think of it, the GP doesn't understand the concept of STANDING, rather than sitting on the mid bar. Capacity will not be enough for busy days.

They will need their best operator team running chang with 3 trains.
Top 5: 1) El Toro. 2) Maverick. 3) Millenium Force. 4) Diamondback. 5) X2.

I wonder if they would run it as they do with Mantis...cause on IronWolf, a lot of people are squatting & sitting. It doesn't matter how big tall or small you are on Mantis, you're standin up right!

The thing with Iron Wolf is people don't get the concept of standing. They squat on the mid-bar. Which causes them a rougher ride, and it takes longer to dispatch since the Crew needs to warn everyone.

Also, what's all this talk of the drop not being steep? The drop is almost equal to Bull's in excitment. I've rode Chang at KK and trust me, the drop IS frightening.

I am struggling to believe that a 150 foot drop at a 45 degree angle is equal in excitement to a 210 foot drop at 65 degrees... 45 degrees is a perfect diagonal line... you have probably sled down steeper hills.

But let's remember that the main element of this coaster is not the drop, but the towering loop, and the other inversions.

This is our first coaster mainly focussed on inversions. Along with Demon kind of. Come to think of it, What is the point of Superman? lol

DAVID! Haha The ride is based of human flight! B&M designed it with the flow of curves & dives for just that, FLIGHT! Now in my opinion SUF goes upside down ONCE but tech. twice. We haven't had any coasters based off inversions other than Demon, BTR, & the(RIP)Shockwave. So I feel this will be a great crowd pleaser.

Well aren't most stand up loops significantly larger than their sit down counter parts to make up for the fact that people are averaging a 5+ foot height compared to ~2 feet sitting? The big loops are definitely cool to look at. As long as Chang runs as smooth as advertised it has the potential to be a crowd pleaser for the first few years. But I still am a strong proponent in believing the GP just doesn't care about stand up coasters as long as they have other alternatives to go to.

SFKK had Chang as its posterchild. This will not be the same at SFGam... people will still prefer riding Bull/Superman/ and Batman. Bull for its size, Superman for the flying factor, and Batman because of its speed/inversions/and feet dangly-ness.

Chang being at the front of the park will be its best friend. One benefit of Chang's arrival will be its ability to draw the big crowds away from Bull and Superman for the first part of the day.

Depending on the entrance to Chang ... they will either have to move the chains or just allow people to line up at its queue before opening because it doesn't seem possible for the entrance to be beyond the train tracks lol. They may have to move the chains back by the Carousel pond.

I am sure the park will like that.. more chances for those picture taking people to beg and annoy us to take pictures.

Haha aww yeah. The look in their face is like a lost puppy sometimes. But anyway that's what I meant before, whem they hold people at carousel. Then again, that's really only for opening day they do that for the ceremony. So maybe guard rails or somethin to hold people off from "Chang".
