Entrance Survey

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby JordanSDMF on October 20th, 2008, 9:43 pm
Has anyone else here been surveyed before entering Six Flags? Every time I went for fright fest I was surveyed. They asked questions about like our age, and how far we traveled and stuff, and then they asked what kind of attraction we wanted.

Hopefully this is a good sign we might be getting a roller coaster in the near future. I have been taking business classes, and the first step to making a product, is finding out what people want in a survey. And I am pretty sure people were saying stupid things like BIG ASS ROLLER COASTER. NOW. When I was getting surveyed, I was like, I would really enjoy another Bolliger & Mabillard coaster, or maybe a nice Intamin LSM coaster. She was just like... what? And then she asked about TDK, and all of my friends were like, it really wasn't that fun.. And all around the park people were like, did you ride TDK? I was like yeah, and they were like IT WAS SO BAD.

I think these surveys will shut Mark Shapiro up with his stupid family bullsh*t. WE HAVE A WIGGLES WORD, LOONEY TOONS WORLD, AND THAT THING BY BATMAN. HOW MUCH MORE CHILD STUFF DO WE NEED? I went in the cargo nets when I was like 9, and she told me I was too old. ARE THEY IDing ALL OF THE KIDS? The reality is, people want THRILLS.

Theyve been doing these entrance surveys forever, I used to get surveyed all the time when entering the park as long ago as 2003. Its just market research, they want to see what kind of people are coming to the park.

I remember back in the 90's when it was a paper survey which they filled out for each person they interviewed, before the palm pilots. That was probably the last time I was surveyed.

It is a good idea. Hopefully, they actually take those into consideration. I would say at least every 4-8 years our park needs another Raging Bull to be born. Or if not a coaster some awesome flats to go in the SWF area. The park needs something to make it stand out again. We won't get that with Buccaneer Battle. Yes, kids need places to go too. However, we have more than enough now for the foreseeable future. Time to paint, stop increasing prices and think about future projects...dive machine...wink wink

In all honesty, we really don't need a huge coaster in our future. We have two "star attractions" (American Eagle and Raging Bull)...those are the rides people talk about...those are the "must ride" coasters...those are the rides that you see from I-94...those are the rides that will hopefully be known for the rest of the parks history. If you take a look at other Six Flags parks, they don't even have a "star attraction".

Now, I'm not saying I don't want a new coaster or we need a new coaster. But I do want a new innovative, intense, thrilling, and somewhat big coaster. DejaVu was all of the above...and really now the only coaster that fits that is V2.

I can see not having a major coaster every 2-3 years but we haven't has one for 5, and will be 6 years. And true, business wise we don't need one for attendance. But eventually less people will be coming into the park if there is nothing new. Also, big coaster will attract families. Because most likely, if there is a new major coaster released the adults or older siblings will want to go..even if they don't plan on riding it. Its more of a "oh, somethings new lets go this year".

Have you ever noticed how busy the park has become this year? I remember in from 05-06 the park was usually dead in the morning and dead at night...and I think it had to do with the new water park. Which is one reason, for me, for not having a new coaster...it would attract more people and make the park busier.

^It's perceived. It depends on what you ride at night, and during the day. For instance, if you ride American Eagle first thing, and last thing because it might be your favorite ride, it's not going to be open at 10:00 am this year because of the 1 hour late start. So, more people are going to go in that area when it opens at 11:00 am. If it's the last thing, maybe instead of using 2 sides, they only used 1 side for American Eagle at night, so thus you think it's more busier.

For Deja Vu even if you got their right when it opened, it wasn't that easy to get a reride because all the people would be in line already. Of course, the line grew faster and faster. Demon also opened at 11:00 am this year instead of 10:00. It's the same thing like American Eagle. It's going to feel more busy because you are getting there at 11:00 am instead of 10:00 am.

It also could have felt more busy because less rides, and two less shows. There was no Operation Spygirl, and no Theatre Royale. They had concerts, but those were only maybe 6 days out of the season. Sundays could have felt more busier because of the concerts that were drawing people. Insteading of people going during the week, they probably said there's a free concert, and let's go that day instead of a Monday, or Tuesday. People might have switched days instead.

If you like Saturdays no matter what year it is, you are doomed to be with massive crowds.

In my opinion, the waterpark wasn't as crowded as previous years. You might think it is, but they just don't run enough tubes for all the slides, so you are waiting for the tube for a longer time. There were a lot less tubes for the Tornado ride especially. There was hardly anyone on the stairs. They also didn't like to open those mat racers in the back.

Alright, do you actually GET anything for taking the survey? And how long does it take?

New attraction wise, I agree with whoever said we need a symbol. Something people recognize and want to ride. Why don't we have a Ferris wheel? SWF's spot? Buccaneer Battle WILL bring in people, every new attraction does, look at TDK. When it first opened, there were 2+ hour lines, even though people think its crappy, families like it.

Families can take their younger kids, who don't want to ride RB, S:UF, B:TR, and go to TDK. Its really not that scary and very tame. Small drops, entertaining for the family, and it GIVES FAMILIES SOMETHING TO DO.

Ferris Wheel=Completely Horrible Capacity, well unless its a triple wheel that can move o say about 2500 guests per hour like my favorite ride did. cough cough call up intamin and have them make a newer better triple wheel, That WAS a symbol of the park until 2000, if we got something like it just imagine, people would come to ride the worlds ONLY triple arm ferris wheel!!!! (sorry for the partial rand)

I took this the first time I went this year. and I shocked the lady giving it because the last time I went Viper just opened. So she was saying that they have dark Knight, and how cool it was.

So it is just to see why you are there and what rides you like. But they don't know alot about rides, They are just park employees, who are told to stand out there and ask 5 questions.

an average say 150 foot Vekoma Wheel as seen at Navy Pier and SFKK can move well over 1,000 pph when run with all cars and grouped properly.

Are you telling me that I, as a member of the crowd, don't represent the crowd as an average teenage kid who will go to six flags? And kids go to six flags.

And they might have been doing this the past while, but did you notice in the past we received Superman, V2, and Deja Vu? If you don't think they have been using the surveys, then you are just stupid. I am sure they got the crowds input to remove Shockwave as well. It became the most bumpy painful ride as I have heard, so they took that from the crowds, and removed it to put in Superman.

This COULD be a sign, especially if they are like, what new attraction would you like in the park after 6 YEARS of nothing. Well, except the new BB, and the removal of Deja Vu.

And that is another thing, everyone I knew was devastated that Deja Vu was gone. I am not saying it shouldn't have been removed, but in the marketing world, you have to replace it with something. You don't just give a crowd this incredible roller coaster, remove it, and put a little shit ride in for it. If Six Flags doesn't think that will hurt the park, then they probably think nothing will.

I am actually excited for BB. I think it will give the park some nice scenery, and would look cool. Just a shame I will always remember how much fun I had 190 feet above it.

And I think it is another sign that I am willing to travel 6 hours or more to Cedar Point because I am getting bored with SFGAm. Then again, Cedar Point markets coasters to get people from all over, but usually I was satisfied with SFGAm, and now i'm not. It's the same old stuff every year, and these past few years, it's the same old stuff, minus Vu. I would go to the park early for opening every time I went to get on Vu, and now I have no interest at all to get there before opening.

We have big huge icons in the park already seen from the highway. You can call anything an icon if you want to, but if you want to call something big being an icon, we have Giant Drop, Raging Bull, Sky Trek Tower, and American Eagle.

I think one huge mistake they did recently was to make the hills higher, so it's harder to see in the park when on the highway. Yes, you can see the rides, but they aren't as in your face as they were before because they made the hills higher. That was such a stupid idea. Maybe, there idea was based on people looking in the parking lot, and seeing how packed it is, or not. If it's too packed, you won't want to go. Most people coming from far aren't just going to leave. They planned the day to be there. Once your within that distance, it's probably not going to stop people from coming in.

Why try to hide the park? I have problems with Magic Mountain. The park wasn't open, but the park was really not lit at night. It was almost pitch black, except for a couple lights. If I wasn't looking, I might have just passed up the park completely, and never knowing it was there. I think these highways are great publicity for the parks. If you don't advertise well to the highway people, people might just pass bye, and never see that it's even there.

To me, well lit rides are better than just rides in the dark.

Thats a sound barrier ..for the high way noise in the park and for the neighbor hood around the park. I don't know who exactly benefits from it though. Also, if you ever walk to Speedway or any other place on Grand Ave, take the road that run parallel behind the parking lot. Theres a huge hill there, but that obviously for those residents.

You never heard the highway noise before they made it like that. They did that when they were re-doing the back parking lot. I still think that has to do with the fact that people on the highway can't see how crowded it is inside the park. I can't see zero cars in the parking lot with that hill.

They usually plan ahead. I wonder if they were thinking about charging the people less money for people parking in the back parking a little while before when re-doing the parking lot. Now, it's $15 back, and $25 upfront. So, they might have thought that all the cars going in the back lot, and thus they need to hide the fact that all the cars are in the back lot because than it looks really, really crowded from the highway. Because of that, people will say forget it. There are too many cars in that parking lot.

I think when they built HH they had a lot of leftover dirt that they didn't want to pay to have hauled off and just threw it up on the berm along the highway.

Yeah, I have never been able to see the parking lot from I-94. In fact, I was trying to get a picture of the park from "Ta Chen" across the street and yeah, you cant see the parking lot.

Although, I highly doubt they would build a hill just to block people from seeing the lot. Because if people come from 20+ mins away, there not just going to turn around. And the fact that not everybody will be coming from I94 north. Also, its hard to tell how busy the park is just by looking at the parking lot...unless your on STT.
