Getting Sick on Rides?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby sixflagsguy5 on January 8th, 2005, 11:32 am
Have any of you ever gotten sick on any of the rides at six flags?

In October 2001 my last ride of the year was Dejavu, and it was my first time riding it. I got really sick on it. I was close to throwing up. And then the first day i went in 2002, the first ride i went on was Dejavu. I got sick on it again. And the same day i went on American Eagle Blue and I got sick and dizzy. I also got sick on Superman my first few times.

And then I didn't ride Dejavu or Eagle Blue until 2003, and I didn't get sick at all. In 2004 I went to sfgam alot, and i never got sick on any of the rides. So do you think that there is some reason that you get sick on rides the first few times you ride them?

I'm not a spinny ride guy so I don't usually do Fiddler's Fling, Chubasco, or Revolution. I'll still go on them but sometimes they make me a bit sick.

The only rides I have ever gotten "sick" on were the Zipper and Fireball rides at a local carnival. And those were only my first times ever on those rides. Now I don't get sick anymore on anything.(Unless I've had too much riding.)

I've never actually gotten sick at SFGAm on anything. It's funny that you say ride though. I went with a class, and we saw that Pictorium show with aliens, and in it they go to an amusement park and ride the rides. It was something like the Elvira thing in SSA. Well, after that many of my classmates became sick, and couldn't go on anything (Not throwing up though.).

As for me, it's sad to say that the Ferris Wheel was the only ride that I threw ever up on. It was a very very weak throwup though. I was on the ride when it happened. However, it was actually another ride that caused it.

For D Vu', I've seen the ride stop 2 or 3 times last year for this subject. Its not always broke.

Nope, I never get sick on SFGAm's rides. That's usually because I avoid riding spinny rides right after lunch. It's carnivals that I tend to get sick at, sometimes.

I have never gotten sick before, while riding, or after getting off any ride, last time I felt sick though while riding a ride was on an Afterburner at the Dade County Fair 2 years ago, since there was no one there, the op kept the ride going as long as myself and 3-4 other riders wanted, after about 20 minutes, he stopped the ride to let another carny ride who was smoking while ridding, and the smoke ended up making me feel quite ill for a good part of the night (though I didnt ride any less because of it, though the Top Scan running at it's Top Speed and with 5+ minute cycles brought me nearly to the breaking point. Other than that I have the Iron Stomach.

Carnival ride (I was thinking about it) is making people sick because of the bacteria on the rides. Just think about it, those rides that be at carnivals are coming from different locations and people have vomit on the ride millions of times and the they just wipe and dissenfect them but not EXACTLY Cleaning them.

But that may be why you guys get sick at carnivals. I never gotten sick at sfgam and it has been my first time getting on rollercoasters. I may get a feeling in my stomach (while riding them) but never gotten sick.

It could be bacteria, but I really think it's riding them after lunch, for me at least. The only time I get sick at carnivals is when I eat right before riding, and that's not all the time, since I know I should avoid it. Stuff like the Power Dive, and spinny rides like Fiddler's Fling, just flipping/spinning over and over again can slightly bother my stomach, especially if I just ate.

Yeah, all you can eat at Mooseburger is real good right before a ride on V2. Luckily I only got half a ride that night. I also ate firehouse pizza right before my first ride on DejaVu. Man my favorite food with my favorite ride. Maybe that's why i like it so much.

I doubt it. I think it has to do with it being the first time on the rides.

I don't think I can believe that. Carnival rides are more ramped up (if that's a word). They are more intense than a lot of the rides at SFGAm. For instance look at something as small as River Rocker, and compare it to Pharoah's Fury. Pharoah's Fury needs full average size tires, while River Rocker only needs on average tire, and on small one mostly used for braking.

Also, their is usually a difference between going upside down five times in a ride, comparing it with at least 10 or 15 with some of them stationary. It's a whole different ballgame because of the feeling to accomodate everyone.

I do see more vomitting at carnivals though, even though Revolution "The Ride" can be a problem for many people along with D Vu'. BTR is another one that people puke on.

I had to quote myself (LOL) But what i meant by Not EXACTLY Cleaning the rides is once people have vomit on them, all the clean up crew does is just spray the water on the train and just dissenfect it. But rides at SFGAM (My friend told me this) the clean up crew have to closed the ride for a good 5-10 mins, Put some kind of vomit clean up stuff on the vomit (What they use at schools once a child vomits) let it sit and just sweep it up, they spray the whole train (just to be safe) with water and let that dry and spray dissenfect on the train.

If you guys think some of these facts are wrong then you guys tell me how they do it at sfgam (Not trying to be smart or anything) but just argue the point a little.

You are close in how they clean up the trains at SfGam. They don't clean/spray the whole train though. Just the areas in need. Then they cycle the trains for a few runs. It can sometimes take awhile depending on the amount of vomit and the speed of the crews. The one I saw on American Eagle took about 30 minutes. It sucked.
