Parking @ Great America

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby JawsFan90 on November 27th, 2004, 10:46 pm
Hi, I'm a new member to SFGAm World and am glad to be here!!!! :D

But getting down to business, does anyone know how Great America will solve the problem of parking @ Great America due to Hurricane Harbor.

Will they:

A.) Keep the lot the way it is.

or

B.) Expand the flat lot, or create a parking garage structure similar to Universal Studios or the Museum of Science and Industry.

P.S
By the way, how many spaces will remain if SF keeps it the way it is?

Ok, the back lot(overflow lot) was repaved and redesigned to accomodate more spaces.

The main lot was also redone recently and that will be redesigned to accomodate up to 500 more spaces. There will not be parking garages.

Also, the bus lot is being moved near the drop off zone(where they had the buses parked during Fright Fest.

I also believe more parking has been added or will be added where these trees were dug out, http://www.sfgamworld.com/gallery/08232 ... t232004_05

Where will the Parking Garages be located?

I will not believe any parking garages until I see it with my own eyes. Parking garages cost a lot of money to build and would create huge traffic problems at park closing.

Too Bad, they could be a good asset, even with the cost. :(

Why would have parking garages been a good asset if they weren't needed?

The current setup works fine and accomadates all the vehicles well. The days of the lot being full are gone, never to return. In the last decade, on days when the park has been it's busiest the lot never filled.

Okay, again, the overflow lot was not paved. It was just resealed. All the cracks and holes are still there. There is even grass growing up. All they did was seal it and redesign the parking layout.

Fine they "resealed" it. I couldn't really think of the word for it, but I do remember you guys arguing over that already. :)

Now that the overflow lot will be used, it will take a heck of a long time to get to the Plaza, at least a 10-15 min walk.

Bring back the trams!!!!

It was easy for me, we always parked at the parking tower. Only a 2 min walk. :D

I'd like trams, but there aren't any left.

And the overflow lot was just resurfaced. A portion of it was new pavement, but thats only the part where the picnic area was.

10-15 min. walk?

Maybe from Gurnee Mills...

Honestly our park will not need trams at all, to walk from the back of the Overflow lot wouldn't take overly long at all.

Eventually, I could see parking garages being put in, for the simple fact I would rather have a parking garage then have more rides being replaced with new ones.

And the overflow lot was getting near full during frightfest (The 30th will come to mind for those who were there) with the addition of a whole new park more or less, there will be many more cars in the lot. So even during normal season, the lot will be the same as it is during frightfest everyday.

Relating question - What would the park do if the parking lot DID get completely full?

Parking Garages, good Idea, but I think they would cost extra. I just hope SF knows what they're doing because the waterpark will definatley generate more cars. Maybe lowered parking for Carpools?

I THINK THEY SOULD NOT BUILD PARKING GARAGES AT GREAT AMERICA. THEY SHOULD JUST BUILD 1 WHOLE PARKING LOT FOR THE WHOLE PARK. THEN THAT WAY IF THE PEOPLE LEAVE GREAT AMERICA TO GO TO THE WATER PARK, THEY WON'T BE PAYING NO EXTRA FEES!
