It's Been Too Long! - What to Expect from SFGAm?

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby DJ Sonrisa on June 21st, 2005, 8:04 pm
Hello everyone!
First of all, amazing site! I'm glad I got the opportunity to stumble upon it. I used to be a faithful reader of rec.roller-coaster in my teens. It's been a few years, and now I come back in time of need.

I haven't been to SFGAm since. . .eh. . before the days of Raging Bull? However I still stuck with the newsgroup through its construction, along with the construction of V2 and Deja Vu. . .the first Whizzer Shutdown threat (still have pic of sign on my computer) and stopped during the ultimate demise of Shockwave.

I return to SFGAm on Friday. . complete with my fellow thrillseeker husband and his family.

I know you get this FAR more than you should. . . . but what new things should I expect when I get there?
1. Should I expect continuing ride issues with Deja Vu? I knew they had so much trouble keeping it open a couple years back.
2. Superman!. . .(since it replaced my beloved Shockwave). . .any good??
3. I know Hurricane Harbor is up and going, so cooling off SHOULDN'T be a problem, but what about other water rides? I don't think I ever visited the park on a day where Yankee Clipper was open. . .

And, well, anything else you want me to be wary of (fastest way to get around the park, line issues, etc.)

Thanks so much in Advance . . .in return, I'll get you a TR. :)

Great to be back!

Superman should be great for you considering it will be your first ride. It loses it's novelty after a while. As far as Deja Vu, I suggest checking it out first, cos if it's opening on time you can get a short wait and if it is opening late you will know when to go over there. That's all I can say for sure.

Yes, D Vu' does have its problems of various times during the day. However, it works more than it ever has. So, if you see it open, I would go to it. Seats are arranged in a V like fashion. So, you have two seats together, and then two seats in back of those which are not together. I am one of few people who actually like SUF. People say its boring because it doesn't have enough inversions.

You also missed the new Mardi Gras area (where Power Dive, and Cajun Cliffhanger used to be). Jester's Wild Ride is pretty much boring. King Chaos is an upside down ride that flips people about 5-8 times if you are lucky. Its boring to me, but many people like it. Ragin' Cajun is a mouse coaster that is pretty intense. Be warned that it looks innocent, but is actually rougher than it looks. Big Easy Balloons is a nice calm ride that is similiar to a swing type ride.

Revolution is another ride that they put in last year in replace of the Merry-Go-Round that used to be across from American Eagle. Batman is yellow with purple/blue supports with no grafitti on the walls, and no garbage (bike, refrigertors, etc.) in the grassy area. Condor is closed for refurbishing. Triple Play has changed from just orange to red, yellow, and green.

It is game central near the Orbit. Across the Orbit, they took away the kids rides, and put a new area called Camp Cartoon Network near Iron Wolf. I don't know what you already know so I'm sorry if I repeat some things you already know.

You can save Iron Wolf for the busiest part of the day because it is one of the least packed rollercoasters. The blue side of American Eagle goes backwards while the red side goes forwards. Yankee Clipper (now Ice Mountain Splash) is usually open. In order to get to Hurricane Harbor, you need to go through Southwest Territory. They sell fastlane passes for certain rollercoasters in order for you to get in rides with little wait. The motion simulator has Stargate SG-3000 in it. I don't like it. The show is more like a video game simulator.

Southwest Territory outdoor theatre has various shows this year. So, check what they have over there. I wouldn't recommend the lumberjack show. Looney Tunes We've Got the Beat is a strictly more for kids show. If you have kids, they probably will like it. Otherwise, I wouldn't go to it. They have a Nascar show in the Pictorium, and a acrobatic show near the Whizzer in Hometown Square. I've heard mixed reviews of the acrobatic show.

Enjoy yourself. If you have any questions, please ask.
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"

Deja Vu is an excellent ride. Just be prepared to wait 30 or 40 minutes for it during the afternoon. Superman gets mixed reviews, I personally like it - the pretzel loop is one of a kind (well three of a kind, there are two other Supermans).

King Chaos, a Top Spin ride, has replaced Power Dive

If you haven't been on Raging Bull then make sure you get on it!!! I suggest the last row.
1. Voyage
2. X
3. Millenium Force
4. Top Thrill Dragster
5. Raging Bull

'05 Bull: 113
'06 Bull: lost count but not a lot

You HAVE to go on Raging Bull!!! :D :D :D S:UF is okay, but if there's a really long line ( ) I'd skip it. Hurricane Harbor is fun, but it's a madhouse in there. My advice: set asied an hour or two as HH time, but don't stay in there too long, or you'll miss the whole theme park! :(
