So I was thinking about opening day, and how excited I am for it. Then I realized that I was driving up there for my first time! I got my license last year.... but never had the chance to drive up there myself. Sure, I've been driven up there alot of times... but I never payed attention to the way there....

I live in Plainfield IL. Right off of 55.
Im assuming I take 55 North to.... 94??

Someone help me out here...

I do believe that you take I55 north to 294. Once on 294 just follow that until it merges into 94. Take 94 north and you will get off at the Grand Ave Exit.

On the way back it's pretty much the same. The only tricky part is when 94 splits into 294 and 94. If you stay on 94 then your on the Edens which will take you all the way into the city. I've done this twice by not paying attention. Just watch the signs and when the highway splits into 10 lanes (no joke, its about 10 lanes wide before the merge) then stay on the right and you will be fine. Accidently going down 94 takes about 30-40 min to fix.

Oh, and use google maps at http://maps.google.com . Its scrollable so you can follow the route all the way to six flags.

It's really easy to get to SFGAm from Milwaukee but I was wondering if anyone knows any alternative routes so I can miss that stupid toll. Can I take 41 (I think it's 41) to Grand Ave instead?

Best route that saves fuel for me anyway from Plainfield is

I-55 North to 355 North then 88 East to 294 North

If you take 55 the whole way, youll be going a little out of your way to the East.

Also you can take Route 59 North to I-88 East and 88 East to 294.

Buy an I-Pass if you intend on going to SFGAM alot this year.

Yes, you can exit off of 94 onto Route 41 before you get to the toll. Then go right on to grand ave and then turn left into the park.

haha! yeah, enjoy having the freedom to pay over $2 a gallon for gas too. its those kind of gas prices that make me really wish I had a car that got 180 mpg.

I don't have a detonator; its on a timer.
A countdown timer?
No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.

The directions that Aero left are exactally what I take and I live in Lockport. It usually takes me about 40-45 minutes to get to the park.

P.S. Hi neighbor :D

Woodland: If you want to avoid I-94 altogether, I'm fairly certain you can exit 41 right on to grand. (Or possibly Washington, in which case you could just take the street behind the emplyee parking lot to grand) It's only a few traffic lights. I take that occasionally. Plus it's fun to see boats and old rides in the Employee lot. (Roaring rapids and the two flumes just sit out there all winter)

US 41 does exit onto both Grand and Washington. one thing to note, though, is that the grand exit is on the left. so you get onto the exit ramp from the left lane and turn onto Grand at the bottom of the ramp.

What I do, (you can do this from plainfield too)

Tollway, Take I-55 north to I-355, north to I-88, east to I-294, which turns into I-94, which takes you to Grand Ave. Which takes you to great america.

EST Time 62 minutes

No Tollway Take I-55 north, to I-90-94 in Chicago, now go west and stay on I-94, until you get to Great America

EST Time 85 minutes

W00dland

these are directions from Fond du lac

Turn Right onto US-41 - go 49.8 mi -

Ignore the distance Fond du lac is to your north on 41, just take 41
south till
5. US-41 becomes US-45 - go 8.5 mi
6. US-45 becomes I-894 - go 4.6 mi
7. Continue on I-43 - go 4.9 mi
8. Take ramp onto I-94 - go 33.5 mi
9. Continue on N US HIGHWAY 41[US-41] - go 6.7 mi
10. Bear Right on N IL ROUTE 21[IL-21] - go 1.5 mi

After this point you will see signs for Great America, you will make a right turn onto Grand Ave Six Flags will be on your left. Best of all you don't have to pay a dime to that rat fink chicago livin govenor of ours (no tolls).

This is the route I use when I come down from my Grandma's house in Fond du Lac.

11. Arrive at 542 N IL ROUTE 21, GURNEE, on the Right (this is SFGAM's "official" address, must be the address for the parcel of land)

I believe I answered this question to you in another thread but anyway, ignore what others in this topic have said for exiting off of Rte 41 as they are out of the way.

Take Rte 41(Waukegan sign) and the first light you come to is Wadworth Rd. Make a right and the first street on the left is Dilleys Rd. Turn left and that will take you right up to Grand Ave. where the McDonalds is. Its the quickest route.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
