Description: Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall is a 13-story freefall with no speed or scream limit that will leave thrill seekers stunned! Height Range: Over 48" Classification: Thrill Rides Location: North side of the park (main rides area of park)
Click this link and you shall find a picture of Free Fall at SFOG (which was something like the Edge).
http://zuben77.tripod.com/id48.html Was it located where Power Dive was or not? I have a picture in my head like it was even though I never rode it.

I think the Edge looked like one hell of a fun ride and I would love to try it. But Giant Drop strikes more fear into me just by the sheer height of the ride. The edge reminds me more of Vertical Velocities back spike, and I imagine it would be somewhat of the same feeling.
The feeling definitely isnt the same. It has its own unique feeling for a drop tower. Anyone who goes to a park with a first generation should ride it.
I think if the Edge didnt have the accident then it would still be a nice ride to have at the park. It would be a nice ride to build yourself up until you go on Giant Drop. Even though the experience is different its still a drop tower.
1st gen drop towers feel like a combination of later drop towers and B&M's pretzel loop. from the top of the tower to the beginning of the curve, 1st gens feel just like any other drop tower, but then you get pressed back into your seat just like during the pretzel loop. then you just sort of roll along to a stop without being able to see much besides the sky.
I don't know about all the other ones, but CP's shakes a lot which gives the ride that unstable feeling like woodies. definately a must.
I don't have a detonator; its on a timer.
A countdown timer?
No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.
Intamin 1'st generation drop towers have been a raging debate/argument for years in the coaster community.
They have a lift, and once it leaves the lift it coasts on wheels on a track under gravity power til it hits the brakes, and it has a curve in the track, which is more than alot more than socalled "real" coasters have, like Superman Ultimate Escape (which I personally dont count), and the Intamin impulse Coasters(which of course I do, though just barely as the final pass is unpowered).
While I personally dont count the 1'st gen drop towers there is a valid argument otherwise. Giant Drops and the such though are completely different though, no wheels, it never does coast at all, I see it hard to validate that one, but what really counts in the end is, it's your own track record and you are free to do what you want with it, and in the end there are so few oddities, like drop towers and racing coasters(another point of debate) in the world where in the end it really doesnt make much difference at all.

Listen for the clicks next time your up there then start counting.
As the ride slows down as it reaches the top, the first cars to arrive usually slow down a little sooner and the last cars a little later, so there's not a ten second gap between all the clicks.
