Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I remeber RT. It had the worst lap bar. It was like the powerdives lap bar. It was automatic and would just crunch you.

Just to add
Viper opened on April 29, 1995
Rolling Thunder closed on September 4, 1995
Rolling Thunder was located in Hometown Square

While searching for RT pictures, I came across a coke (I don't know how) can coupon of of when the ride was first put.

I will post the other two under the topic of SF, a look over the past 10 years. I'll put one of Shockwave (I know older than 10 years) and SSA.

There is no way rolling thunder could have flipped off the track because on the edges of the track, there were little rails that prevented it. And if I can remember correctly, there were wheels on the car that rode along those rails. I'm not sure though because I only rode it once, and that was the first time I ever went to Great America.

I never really understood the concept of the bobsled coaster. Oh well. Thanks for the responses!

A bobsled coaster is a coaster that is meant to give the feeling that your out of control, Because the trains themselves are not attached to the track, but as i showed earlier, there are rails that incase somehow it were to climb to the top of the track it would not come off

They model the Winter Olympics sport. However, the roller coaster has to be less rough than the actual sport. If you want to watch a good movie about bobsleds, rent Cool Runnings.

RT accident is pure rumor, nothing ever happend on it at any park it's been at.

Also as a side note, get out to PKD and ride Avalanche the Mack Bobsled with the long trains instead of single cars, far better ride (though those in Europe are better, with BPB's being the best being all downhill with no blocks or anything)

As a former member of the RT crew, I can tell you that nothing remotely close to an accident happened. It was just about impossible to flip one of those sleds...unless of course you coated the track with ice and water and ran some cars. The track has a "lip" at the top which prevents the car from flipping over. And as a side note, the only "smooth" bobsled ride I've been on is Disaster Transport at Cedar Point.

I went on this ride 2 times before it closed in 1996 and I was 6 they last day it was open. I remember when they put this ride in the worker parking lot, while me and my mom were waiting for my sister to get out of work to pick her up i played in the rusted green track.

At least you had fun on it. Playing on the track. Get it?

It was a good ride, but as I said before I think it was too rough for SFGAm guests. I beg to differ, however. How cool was it to once have a rollercoaster so different from the rest?

When X or D Vu goes out (not in the near future), I think that people might say the same thing (the last sentence).
"I've been staring at the world, waiting. All the trouble and all the pain we're facing. Too much light to be livin' in the dark. Why waste time? We only got one life. Together we can be the CHANGE. So go and let your heart burn bright"
