Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I think this was brought up last year also but I cant find it anywhere. I was wondering if this year they have to Back entrence under eagle open for the GP. This way was always much easier for us since there is berely any line there. Not really sure of the street name. Thanks.
I wish I lived in Chicago so I could go to Six Flags more often!

It is the Washington St. Entrance. They open it about 1/2 prior to park closing and you can use it only to leave the park. It helps keep the traffic down at closing time, and is easier to use for people who don't have to take the tollway.

Also, they're redoing the intersection just east of that. If you turn left out of that entrance, then turn right at the light (Route 21) you will be able to take a ramp to IL Rte. 120 East, then exit to I-94. It will be much quicker than taking Grand if it's backed up. Right now that intersection is under construction and the ramps have been closed for quite some time, but they should be open by the fall.

I think my step dad is going up to work on that intersection this summer. He was talking about working up by six flags tonight at dinner. It might mean for me more trips to great america this year! 8)

Anyway what year did they stop using that as an entrace. Cause didn't it used to be like the main entrance?

It closed off as an entrance after 9/11.

No, the Washington St. access was never the main entrance. However, when Marriott constructed the park, they wanted the main access to be off of Washington but the tollway refused to build a ramp there.

Thanks a lot. I wish we could use it but a few minutes of traffic in the entrance never killed anyone.

.

Are you sure they are doing that now? I know they had it as an exit during the 2002 season, but last year, and so far this year, I have not been able to leave the park that way during closing time.

Yes, they said in NCC that they would be using the exit this year. (Not to enter) They will only use it for Exiting and will open it 30 min before the park closes and only on Busy Days.

As Carlo says, it's only on busy days.

Haven't had a busy day yet this year so we will see.

Yeah, they do use it on busy days. I was there last Saturday, and wanted to go West on Washington. I ended up going all the way east on Grand to go south on Rte. 21, then west on Washington, only to discover, mostly busses, exiting that way. Also, if you notice, while going east on Washington, they still have the left turn signals covered, because you can't turn left into the park, but still have to stop for traffic coming out.

Y would they close it down just cause of 9/11? How could an entrance be used for a terrorist attack?

It depends on what part of the lot you park in. They will direct most of the traffic out of the lot to Grand Ave. If you park South of the Shuttle and the Go-Karts you can usually get out the Washington St. entrance. Wash. St. is also the main bus exit.

Depends on how close you are to it. If you were in County Fair, SWT by GD, and by RB's station. IF a coaster were to fall though means of terrosit actions I hoghly doubt AE would be the first choice. Anyways I dont even want to think about that happening.

Right after 9/11, the country panicked. My guess is since American Eagle represents our countries colors and patriotism, they felt some fool would do something stupid.

Of course in my opinion, terrorists wouldnt give an SF park a second thought for attacks.
