Gurnee canidates look to get rid of Red Light Cameras

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Last I visited Gurnee I seen signs for the latest Candidates claiming they can and will get rid of the red light cameras that are plaguing some of the Great America Visitors.

All I can say is that they're going to have a very hard time convincing The Village Board based on the statistics listed here:

http://www.gurnee.il.us/sites/default/f ... _03-11.pdf

I think those cameras should stay. Maybe it would convince Great America patrons do stop driving like maniacs.

Opinions? Discuss.

I hate those cameras. It is almost impossible to get to SFGAm without encountering atleast one. I don't trust them at all. I especially hate ones that are located at intersections where I turn right on red.

You are the only person that thinks redlight cameras should stay. I personally hate them, especially as previously mentioned at intersections where you have to make a right turn on red.

There was a study done that actually showed that the lights caused more accidents from people slamming on their brakes than actually running the lights. That being said I want the cameras gone.

Why should the 99.9% of the people who dont live in Gurnee care about the Red light cameras?

Who cares I dont live in Gurnee, most here dont either. Not a big deal.

^ Agreed. And I've taken hundreds on rights on red with RLC's and never once gotten a ticket. If you actually stop at the line, wait and then turn there is nothing to worry about. Most people forget the stop and wait part.

In the end its all about getting our money so whoever put the cameras can enrich themselves. The recession won't get better anyway. WTH is the point??  :?

This is true, but the people who drive like maniacs deserve one of these in the mail. I should know, almost got hit while leaving GAm one time....

On a semi-related note ive seen someone drive right over the curb/grass to avoid the parking fee which was $10 at the time.

No one is patient enough to wait in long lines to get out of the park, heck most of us hate long lines for rides but we wait anyway. There are maniacs that go to the park and people who try to act like a bada**, its only an amusement park. Act your own age, act like adults, behave like a civilized normal person and we can all avoid this nonsense and you can save yourself some money while your at it.

Aside from the red camera's here is a story that i found. There is a tiny small part that talks about how much our park is getting taxed this year.

I read that in Arizona they just increased the time of yellow lights and that fixed the problem.

I have unpaid Gurnee Red Light fines, and unpaid Illinois Tollway fines...there is a reason why I don't hang around Illinois longer then I have to. I hope these things go away fast.

Illinois has one of the biggest debts out of any state in the US so I think thats why you have those tickets. They give tickets to anyone for almost anything, especially if its close to the end of the month. *cough cough* quota, quota *cough cough*
