The original DEMON!

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.
Postby jbujwit10 on April 13th, 2009, 3:24 pm
As most of you know,

Demon used to have 2 hills after the 1st drop. However, it was later changed to 2 loops, which is still on it now. I was wondering if anyone knows where you can find a video of the original Demon w/ 2 hills after the 1st one?

THANKS!

"The Original Demon" as you call it was called Turn of the Century, it was rethemed to Demon when the loops were added.

There isn't really any good footage of Century (it was only around for 3 seasons; and that was over 30 years ago) other than its brief appearances in commercials. Look on GREATAMERICAparks for those. SFGAm's YouTube page has some footage of the corkscrews but not the bunny hills:

There used to be some footage from 1978 posted to YouTube but it looks like it's been pulled. Century also makes a brief appearance in the 30th Anniversary segment that was on WMAQ 3 years ago:

(EDIT: 3, not 2 years. I'm tired...)

^Where in Jon's post does he say Turn of the Century was only there for 2 years?
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

'76, '77, '78, and '79=4 seasons unless I'm wrong and it was closed in '79.

Demon opened in '80 so TOC had 4 seasons. Some park maps out there including Demon say 1979 on them for some reason.

I agree! I need to buy you a drink as well. Thanks for posting such a great video!

The video does have a mix of both the CA and IL parks. I know most (if not all) of the Tidal Wave footage is from Gurnee, as you can see the Southern Cross supports in the background (Southern Cross was only at Gurnee). However, if you look at some of the Whizzer and ToC footage, Sky Trek Tower is missing the flag pole, which is a dead giveaway for the park in CA. You can also see some red track on ToC in the corkscrews, which I think was also only on the CA version, and not the IL one. But, there may be some footage of both ToC and Whizzer from Gurnee as well.

Also of note is that I believe (and this is a guess) that the place the kid is standing doing the interview with the 2 girls for Whizzer, the boy for ToC, and the boy for Tidal Wave, is up on the balcony in Orleans Place just outside the executive meeting room (the one above Bugs Bunny and Co).

All of the ground footage of Whizzer is Gurnee. PGA's Whizzer has square supports. All round there.
