I have to speak my mind on this. How can you people withstand a intense ride when your drunk. Beer is one thing, but when adding onto the hard stuff? This is somehow ridiculous. Most people get violent or angry when they drink. While their trying to make the park family related their bringing in a intoxicant depressant. Then they expect you to smoke in a designated area. I just don't get this idea.
The new liquor licenses are for Hurricane Harbor, the Crazy Buffalo Saloon in Southwest Territory, Pizza Luigi, the Snowshoe Tap House and a picnic grove, said Joe Costa, director of in-park services.
I dont really see an issue with this, I never see drunk guests in the park. I really dont think theres anything to worry about and if theres any isolated incidents security does a good job dealing with it. I'd consider Busch Gardens parks to be family parks, and they were made by a liquor company and promote it in the parks (and give out free drinks in the Hospitality House ). I'd assume World Showcase at Epcot sure has a large assortment of mixed drinks also, and i'd definitley consider that a family park.
Most rational grown ups are not coming to Great America to get hammered
Exactly, theres a pretty good amount of adults come to the park with their kids and have a drink but have any intention/dont get close to being intoxicated. That's only on CBOE night .
SFGAm is the biggest family destination in the Chicago area, and if you tell any parents "they now sell hard liquor two drinks allowed" I dont think anyone would care.
You must have just graduated from DARE class, congratulations. Read the rest of the thread where some great points from other people have come up. I think this really does increase the family atmosphere, because a family doesn't just include little kids. It would be a big perk for a Dad to go grab a drink with the wife and relax while the kids play in Camp Cartoon Network. If somebody really wants to get drunk at SFGAm, they will buy the bottle in the liquor store outside the park and down it then enter.

I deal with a lot of people who are highly intoxicated/drunk at work, and while some are violent, alot arent . When people are under the influence of a intoxicant they can be happy/mean/angry etc, they often act the way they do when they are sober, there behavior just tends to be more extreme examples of how they normally act!!

Plus this year security cameras have been added to the parking lot
Does this mean next time I get to my car after closing with a note on my windshield that says "we saw the van that hit your car, here's his license plate" I'll actually have some evidence for the insurance companies?

Its good to have options. But just because those options are there doesn't mean people will take advantage of them. For example, regulars that go and rarely buy their meal in the park will obviously probably not be drinking, seeing as cost is most likely the reason they choose to bring their own food.
Tourists on the other hand could be all over it, and I think as long as rules are followed, it will be ok. As long as nobody is obnoxious, I say enjoy yourselves.
But I probably won't be drinking at the park. Maybe one. Just because I can.
I have to say that I disagree wholeheartedly with most of what has been said here. I think this is a very big deal, and it's going to cause problems.
Let's look at this folks: Heat + thrill rides + long lines + hard liquor + young people. What do you get when you add all of that up? You're going to get under-age kids served, fights started, and lawsuits filed.
I realize that SFGA has served beer, wine, and, according to some of you, mixed drinks, at certain locations for quite some time now, but spreading it throughout the park is going too far.
Should this be a big deal? No. People should be able to know their limits and act responsibly. But just because that's the way it SHOULD be doesn't mean that's the way that it WILL be.
Mark my words, you're going to hear of a minor accidentally being served, fights breaking out, or, even worse, a car accident that kills patrons who were at the park that day, and it's all going to come back to the alcohol.
We all know how quick people are to pursue lawsuits. This is just giving those people a very easy target.
I really hope that I'm wrong and that all of you are right. I hope this doesn't cause a hint of trouble, but I just don't see that as likely. Adding hard liquor to a crowd of youngsters standing in long lines in summer heat is like throwing gas at a flame; it's just not a good idea.
I'm gonna twist ya, and I'm gonna flip ya. Every time you squeal, I'm just gonna go faster and harder.

Lets all pray that doesn't happen.

Also, there is one more thing people need to realise.
How much actually is the alcoholic content in the drinks they are selling? I doubt it will be a full on bar, it will just be your usual 5-10 different drinks. If six flags started selling everclear that would be another story. If anything, first aid will be busier with people being dehydrated.
What's really funny, is that you think I'm from the GP (General Public). When indeed, I most likely know far more about the coaster, as I've rode it multiple times.
I very much doubt there will be that many people drinking because you know they are going to seriously gouge on the prices. Not many people will want to spend $10 on a weak margarita.
