I have to laugh when reading all the comments about the new sign - have you seen the sign at SFSTL?????? You all should be grateful you now have such a cool sign - your old sign was better than SFSTL. Here is the link to a picture of the sign: http://travel.webshots.com/photo/1132945523054967153LZqOAg
Well, i just got back to my usual internet and after seeing that sign for the first time and seeing what all of you have said, I guess it's going to have to be viewed in person before i can make a definite comment.
At the moment, however, I find myself torn. It's an improvement over the old one, however, I still think it could be better. The angle idea is a great idea, but by not doing it with the top part of the sign, it no longer makes it pleasing to the eye from all views and blocks part of itself from the ground. At the same time, I would be afraid to make the entire sign angled while only using the old base. I think it's a safer bet in terms of toppling over so I see it as a reasonable adjustment. Nevertheless, it looks magnificant from those night pics!
Oh, and as for the comment on those saying it's "just a sign"....it is the first and last thing customers will see going to and from the park....sounds pretty important to me!
RIP: Trailblazer and Deja Vu...heck, even Alien Encounter
You know, I think we're pretty spoiled up here. Look at the St. Louis sign. Look at the Kentucky Kingdom sign. Both old, perhaps even older than ours was, and they're still there. I think the reason we got the new sign was not only because it was old, but being so close to Chicago, they feel they have to maintain a more modern image than other parks.
Personally, I could care less about the sign, I'm going in there to have fun, not admire the signs. Yeah, its important because its the first thing customers see, but someone who really wants to go is not going to turn around and leave at the gate because the sign is not up to par. Get real!
^ I totally agree. But according to economists, some people are never happy with what they have and they always end up wanting more. People in general complain about the need for a new sign, the park gets one, and then people complain more because it isn't what they want in a sign.
As viperchick said, those that go to visit, know where it is, or look up the directions. It's not like their looking for a certain office in a business park where the buildings look similar. They see a coaster, and they know they have made their destination.
