You cant compare two different things and expect the same results.

Disney is a vacation destination spot for people around the world. The parks are managed differently and are totally different expereinces.

Six Flags is a regional amusement park cartering to people in specific locations with totally different management and totally different atmosphere then Disney.

In other words comparing Six Flags to Disney would be like comparing apples to oranges.

And who ever said that Disney is the one with the correct admission price? In my opinion, Disney admission should be closer to $80.00 for what they offer.

I personally think that it is a respectful idea to raise the prices, but there are still going to be some angry people about this. There are some who can't afford to spend that much money and are going to be faced with the chore of telling their kids they can't see bugs that year, possibly not for a long time. Although the idea is reasonable, I still feel bad for those, like my family used to be, who were barely able to go every year and now can't. Why do you think some people only go to Disney a couple times in their lifetime if that?

No, seriously, I see your point. But ultimately any company cares most about its own profits, there is always going to be someone that can't afford your products or services.

Um, if you were to compare the same thing, that would sorta defeat the purpose bub. What else are you going to compare Six Flags to? Why not the most visited and most respected chain the business? Disney sets the standard for everyone.

A better comparison would be the Busch Parks, Paramount and CF to Six Flags. Since they offer the same product (Regional Amusement parks) to that of Six Flags.

Disney is in a class by itself.

Thank god for that too but the price of that will go up too. Disney does set the standards but Six Flags have better rides though and its closer to home for some families and affordable for some families but not anymore.

Well you sort of can make that comparison. Why should the price to take a bus to Florida be just as expensive as a plane ride there. You can make that bus as fancy as you want, but it still just isn't the same and still won't be worth the same amount of money.

Honestly Six Flags has given the gate away for so long, people now think a park jam packed with dozens upon dozens of multi million dollar rides is worth $31-$42, that is why the industry is the way it is today. People think why pay $20 to go to Whalom(now defunct) or Clementon(who's opening day in 2006 is still uncertain) for about the same price or about that much for when they could go to SFNE for $31 and have all the huge coasters. This is why so many small parks are suffering so much and why Six Flags is suffering so much as well.

These price hikes are just bringing prices up to more reasonable levels.

There is a reason why a handful of small parks have closed down recently and carnivals are hurting badly, and this is it.

^What you said makes a lot of sense, however, your method will have a similar effect on bigger parks now. Why go to Six Flags to get just big rides, when you can go to Disney to get big rides, plus amazing theme for almost the same price? If Disney's parks weren't so far away for most, I can see many Six Flags parks closing down because of this.

I guess what I'm saying is if Disney doesn't increase prices, the GP will see our parks as expensive, rather than reasonable.

Galvan/Chi-town, the big difference between Bugs and a Mickey character meal will be the long lines for Mickey one and little lines for the Bugs one!!(also if one checks the amount of merchandise sold in a year you will find no comparsion)
One should always compare themselves to the leader in a industry and one they hope to match some day, at least in terms of making money/guest satisfaction. And when you are charging almost as much money to either park then one should compare the prices and what you get too see if you get your moneys worth.
And if people dont think they are getting there moneys worth they will leave not as happy and are less lilely to spend alot of money on trinkets/meals(which may explain the mass exodus at lunch/dinner time from the park).

I don't really care about the price increase, because I'm going to get a season pass. But I can see how this is going to lower sfgam's attendance too, not everyone will buy a season pass, so they definately wont pay 50 bucks to go once. So now six flag's tactic isnt to attract just families, they are focusing on the rich families , yep it was bound to happen.

That's the difference, Disney is a long way away from basically all Six Flags parks, people have to go to the local park, the nearest six flags park, or fly all the way to orlando for disney, and also a one day ticket to Disney is now $63 or $65

$55 to enter Great America AND Hurricane Harbor is a pretty good deal if you ask me. Go to Disneyworld, and Blizzard Beach on the same day, and I bet your paying over $90 per person.

If your product is good. If you provide a safe, freindly atmosphere for families who spend money at the park, and make sure that teenagers who seem it necessary to pratice their basketball skills in the middle of the path, or scream at the top of their lungs right in your ear while you wait in line, to their buddies who are trying to cut through about the 40 people who are behind you, you will get the crowds no matter what your price is.

I talked my friend into getting a pass this year and when she saw the price she thought it was pretty steep but then I showed her the price of a single ticket and she was shocked. Two times used to pay for the pass but now two trips and you are saving money already.

Yes! People think that $84.00 is sooo expensive. Just look at what other parks charge and in comparison it's very, very cheap. $84.00 for an entire season of free admission is a good deal.
