I'm sorry you had a bad day, I was there but at the Waterpark before they closed it off and it got busy. We didnt get there until lunch time and we ate in burger king first and just before we left the lights went off for a while then came back on. We had no idea what had happened until they said at the park how the power went out.
Next SFGAm trip: heck I know...

The reason why we left at 5:00pm is because we were scheduled to go to Gurnee Mills immediately after leaving the park. We were only scheduled to stay at the park for 5 hours. The leader of the group decided to leave a little early becasue some of the kids were not having a good time. Some of the kids couldn't swim and they were just sitting at HH. Also, the older chaperons (those over 40) were complaining about it being hot and tired, so that was another factor taken into consideration. Basically, we had to go by the majority decision and leave the park. Believe me, it really wasn't my choice to leave so early.

Well people, I'm about to head home. I do want to say that I did enjoy my stay here in Chicago. The whole situation with Great America on Tuesday has completely bypass my thoughts. Everything I originally said was out of anger and disappoitment. I know that the staff at Great America did everything they could to alleviate the situation. Even the kids on our trip have gotten over it and moved on. Like I previously stated, the whole deal with the water situation was talked about out of anger and disappointment. I don't want for any of you to get the wrong impression of me and think that I some sort of jerk or anything. I just wanted for our trip to be fun and we unfortunately ran into some turbulence. I wish all of you a good day and I hope to come back sometime next year.

woodland, i was at the park yesterday and didnt see anyone offering free tickets, even when they were giving people hnad stamps in the rain.
LC3, I hope your visit next year isnt marred by bad weather and you have a great time, because the park(thru warts and all) can give you a good days worth of entertainment.

I was leaving right after the rain stopped and the Six Flags Photo woman was yelling "Free Tickets at Guest Relations" Don't know if she was lying or not or how long they offered them though.

Well, I finally made it home and all I can say is that this trip is one that I will never forget. By the way, did anyone find out what exactly caused the power outage on Tuesday? Just curious.

How would the fountain work if the power is out?

The fountains worked, basically there was power in the park, there just wasnt enough power to safely run all the rides. That is why Bull and Drop were still operating when the power went out.

The reason rides continualy shut-down is because of vey short "blips" of energy loss. That is enough to prompt the safety systems on the rides, which in that cae the ride needs to be reset by a mechanic.

as far as I know... Sfgam's water fountains are not computer controlled.

Waterfountains (drinkingfountains, I hope thats what we're talking about) work without electicity. So will soda machines. Neither rely on a pump. If the power is out long enough, then they will warm up to room temperature, but neither require electricity. The pressure of the waterlines, and the CO2 for the soda machines is all they need. Your tap still works at home without electricity, thats because the city pumps water into watertowers which provide natural pressurization (via gravity) in times of need or when the pumps fail or cannon meet demands.

You two thought that it was that important to bring up an old topic that I wrote back in July to discuss something totally irrelevant?

That is, of course, assuming you are connected to municipal water. Otherwise, your neighborhood may have its own pumping system that gets water from the ground. There are also pumping stations, but those probably have some sort of back up power. Also, if you have a septic tank, those require electricity to pump sewage I believe. But yeah your point is still valid. :)
