Indiana Beach - 7/26 TORNADO!!

Let us know how your day at the park was.
Postby Danhockey04 on July 26th, 2005, 10:23 pm
Rides Closed: Double Shot and Chaos (which none seem to be open anywhere)
Crowds: empty, walk on for everything except Den of Lost Theives
Weather: Sunny like 85-90, then cloudy, then storms (as we left)

Me, Jeff, Ally, Eric, and Zach left for IB at 5:30 in the morning  but that was in order to beat out the traffic. I also thought that IB was in the Easter Time Zone, but it is in the switch over between the two time zones, central in the summer, eastern in the winter. So we got there 3 hours early. :?

We walked to the coffee shop at the light after parking in the parking lot in the front. We come back, and me, Jeff and Ally drove away and left Zach and Eric behind. Well, we get back to the park at about 9:30ish. We go into the park and the first thing we do is hit up the DDR machine. Then we went to see the fishies in the fish feeding area, they are defiantly ACErs cause all they wanted was food.

We then went to buy the POP for ride session 11:00 to 6:00, got my 50% ACE discount and then went to line up for Cornball Express. After this, we rode too much to remember what we did in order, so I will just leave a list.

Cornball Express: 8 (A very good wooden coaster that gives a lot of air in the back, a top 5 wooden for me.)
Tig'rr Coaster: 5 (A fun ride, looked great and was fun, the only thing I disliked was the anti-rollbacks on every hill)
Hoosier Hurricane: 2 (A decent ride that offers good air in the front, looked better than it was)
Galaxi: 3 (Was a good ride, it was better than it looked)
Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain: 2 (Good theming, I liked it better backwards, it took some wierd turns, but was different)
The Great Wheel: 1 (A basic ferris wheel, during a thunder storm)
Water Swings: 1 (Fun to ride swings over the lake.)
Falling Star: 1 (It had a good program that offered a lot of air.)
Bumper Boats: 1 (Only 4 boats running, but had some nice times trapping Ally in a corner)
Paratrooper: 1 (Interesting ride, a lot of fun without shoes. )
Scrambler: 1 (Just like HTFM, but different colors and on the lake)
TIlt-A-Whirl: 1 (A basic tilt-a-whirl, it was good)
Mini-Golf: 1 (I won, I shot even par, 23, while Jeff had a 31 and Ally with a whopping 34)
Air Crow: 2 (Fun ride, I really was tempted to snap them, but there was a sign there, "No snapping" and it was over the lake, so I decided not to)
Log Flume Rocky Rapids: 1 (A rather boring log flume, and got me mad cause I was the only one that came off wet)
Den of Lost Theives: 10 (Very very fun dark ride, my high was 740, Jeff's was about 540, Eric's was about 580, Zach's was 300, and Ally's was 260.)
Sky Ride: 1 (It was a chair lift that brought you to one side of the park to the other, that came in handy once for us, it was a relaxing ride)

TOTAL: 42

Me and Ally also went into the Haunted Castle, where she almost cried cause she got so scared. All the dark paths and the "rats" that were on the floor terrified her. Luckily, when we got to the room with 8 doors, we chose the right door on the first guess. There were 3 or 4 Chicken door exits she tried to exit out of, but I wouldnt let her. Then the best thing, at the end with the balcony, she goes on it and it falls and she almost falls off cause she was so scared. I was laughing and stood on it, and did an impression of her. Then I tried to go through the door that said "Keep Out", idk why, but i didnt know there was a path next to it.

Then we bought shirts, played the ticket game, where Zach, Ally and Eric all played that roulette game with the color guessing. They all put yellow, and it came up yellow, so they all won 40 tickets each. We finished off the day with 2 Cornball Rides and a Tig'rr Ride and then going to eat some of their good and rather cheap food. In all, I had 2 tacos, a taco salad, mozeralla sticks, a footlong hotdog, and 3 large drinks still being under $22.00, but the souverner mug put it up to about $25.

I really liked the park, they had a lot of rides in such a small amount of space and the way the rides are placed among the park.

Then on the way home, storms come rolling in about 5 minutes after we left, it gets bad. I call home and ask about the storms, they tell me that there are Tornado warnings and stuff like that down there. We didnt get to see one, but the sky was green and it got really windy out. If we left 15 minutes later, I think we would have seen a tornado. We were driving the opposit way the storm was moving, I was upset that we didnt get to see a tornado, but it was still cool to drive through it.

I think last summer Coasterdude316, Galvan, and Chitown were close to seeing a tornado on their way back from Indiana Beach.

Maybe I should just drive back and forth between here and there just to try and see one. :o

We did not see a tornado, there may have been one, since we did drive right through a funnel cloud. I doubt that the park got hit, if there was one. The conditions were perfect for one though, it was hot, then it cooled off, the storms came through, the skies turned green, the winds were gusty, and it was raining hard. It did not hail though, luckily.

Drove through a Funnel Cloud?

Really....
Funnel Clouds are tornadoes that dont actually touch the ground, and remain up in the air.

Considering the fact that you are driving on the street, which i might add is along the ground. You didnt "drive through a funnel cloud" because in theroy if you did as you stated, you'd be driving through a tornado.

Good luck on typing a TR if that was case :D come to think of it good luck doing just about anything in that case :)

Just kidding with you Dan, good TR anyway...

On a side note:

The Green sky is a common misconception when it comes to Tornadoes:

The green sky is actually associated with a hail producing thunderstorms and not necassarly a tornado. While it is true that tornadoes do form when you notice a green sky, just because the sky is green doesnt mean a tornado is near. In fact, tornadoes themselves are nearly invisible, its the color of whatever they suck up. Example: If the tornado goes over say an area of red roses, the torando would take the color of reddish.
