Windows Media Player Problem

A Off-Topic forum to discuss things that aren't related to the Amusement Park Industry.

So basically Windows Media Player never works for me unless I have the file saved onto my computer. So if I'm trying to open a file from the internet, it doesn't work.

And, if I'm trying to view a video, the video doesn't show up, only the sound works.

Any way to fix this?

yep, for the sound but no video, you are missing codecs.

Download the Standard codec pack, but when you're installing, do not install their media player. This will fix your video problem.

As for the not being able to stream, are you getting a lot of lag? Does it just sit a buffering?

When I clicked Download, it said the link to the publisher's website was broken.

and it ususally will say something like "Locating media..." and then this error message comes up:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred. The server might not be available. Verify that you are connected to the network and that your proxy settings are correct.

I think it might have to do with my internet problem that I've had for months now. Firefox not working, and on IE, when I first start it up it won't show the home page. If I'm on a page for long enough, it will once again say "Page Cannot Be Displayed." Refresh usually works though.
