I don't care who you are or what you're doing. I don't care if you haven't seen the TV show. if you're reading this, you need to go see Serenity right now.

No, a count-up timer. It goes from one to explode.

No thanks it looks really stupid.

I went & saw Serenity on Sunday. I had only watched two episodes back when Firefly was on the air, but I liked the idea of the show. A group of former soldiers trying to eek out a living on the frontier while avoiding the established authority.

I loved the western theme of the show, and how well the characters interacted. Beyond that, I didn't know jack about the show. I didn't know what a browncoat was, nor did I care. To be honest , another reason why I went was to try and show Fox that well written original stories can be profitable, if they would quit killing them off and screwing with the creators vision (Wonderfalls, Tru Calling, The Inside anyone?).

What I was treated to in the theater was simply incredible. It was well written, and very well acted. The themes of family and rebeling against the established authority while trying to go your own way should ring true with most Punks ( I know we have a few around here). The story was entertaining, and the dialogue was the most original thing I've seen on the big screen.

Bottom line - You don't need to be familiar with the show. In fact it may be better if you're not. If you enjoy original well written movies, If you like Sci-Fi, If you want to try something new, or If you want to show Hollywood that there is a market for good shows - Please get your butts out there this weekend 10/7-10/9. The second weekend will determine whether or not Hollywood continues to support these kind of semi-independant ventures.

Otherwise we may be doomed to Into the Blue 2 or 3 Fast 3 Furious.

BTW - I went to the Sunday Matinee because I wasn't sure if this movie was worth full price. I'm going back this weekend in the evening with friends. I am also going to get the Firefly DVD set now so I can see what else I've missed.

"What was that?" - best line to end on...

I'd say the show is going to feel different from the movie for you. I know the movie felt different fromt eh show for me. the show had many more western elements while the movie had many more sci-fi elements. but both are still very good.

So now Serenity is out on DVD. It was released on 12/20.

I have watched all the "Firefly" episodes on DVD after purchasing the set, like I said I would, and I went back and watched Serenity again.

I still stand by my post above. This is a great movie that doesn't require previous knowledge of the characters. In fact on the DVD , you can view scenes that were cut to help out newcomers to the Firefly 'verse.

I have shown Serenity to a few friends, so far the response has been good. They want to come over, and start watching Firefly episodes just like I did after watching Serenity.

SGFA Bob - You're right the show did have a different feel. It sucked to see something that well done, and know that FOX suceeded in killing yet another good show.
