Weeks after what could be the most desructive and costly storm ever to hit the United States.
Tropical Storm Rita with its 70 MPH winds is taking aim at Key West and could make a singificant impact to the United States Gulf Region.
Situated about 390 miles East SouthEast of The Florida Keys, Tropical Storm Rita is expected to reach hurricane strength late tonight or early Tuesday.
The storms 5 day track could take it towards the gulf coast of Texas. However, this storm is very much remincent of Hurricane Katrina that struck New Orleans back in August.
Updates as the become availible.

You're the one who thought it was so amazing that there is another hurricane coming you started a whole topic.
When really it's not. I've said don't be surprised to see another hurricane worse than katrina by the end of the year...and no matter what other peoples opinions are I'm sticking to the global warming theory. Just today on some news station one guy was like: "and this is only a couple degrees in water temperature in a couple years, imagine a 10 degree increase?"
We ALL need to wake up and at least attempt to stop this rise in ocean temperature before it's too late. And exactly what needs to happen before people start accepting it? Maybe next year we can go through the alphabet of hurricane letters twice?
And also, since you put so much thought into your posts and apparently I don't, I didn't mention anything about politics, you did.

^......IT'S HURRICANE SEASON! Duh, more hurricanes are coming, they'll keep coming until November. Hurricanes are worse this time of the season because it's when the ocean waters are NATURALLY warmer this time of year because the Northern Hemispere gets more sun in summer because that's the way God/Evolution has deemed that the Earth needs seasons. The ocean waters have a tendancy to rise in the summer, more sun=more heat. If a rogue catagory 4+ hurricane hits in January, then we'll talk about that global warming thing. But right now we should just accept that August and September are still summer months in the south. The ocean waters have been warming all summer, and won't start to cool until October...hence hurricane season is August-November. And I haven't seen any abnormal temps in FL this year, in reality, it's been a mild summer.

Well personally I wasn't saying kamooza couldn't talk about global warming...I couldn't get him to stop if I tried. I was just stating that there isn't any proof as of yet that global warming has anything to do with the hurricanes right now. Global warming or not, it's still hurricane season.

There isn't proof that it has anything to do with hurricanes, but is there any proof that it doesn't either? Exactly. Kahmooza earlier stated that it is a THEORY. Theories are not proven yet.
Because Hurricanes happen this time of year, the area of latittude where these storms have occured are condusive of the conditions where massive hurricanes form.
Just because there is a bad strom, doesnt mean that its global warming.
Geez now there is going to be arguments about global warming, u people argue about the stupiedest things sometimes, yes this hurricane might turn into a big deal just like katrina did, i hope it doesnt do to much damage to key west, for now on lets just talk about that and not global warming
It has been stated by weather experts that the ocean waters are getting gradually warmer. They also stated that this season would just be the start of a massive hurricane outbreak for years to come.
This is unusual no matter what anyone thinks.
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.
I even started to think it was odd a couple years ago when we pretty much doubled the tornado record. Now with all the other records dropping like bricks it sealed it for me.
Well, I thought that I would help and give you some numbers so that
we are all clear on what has been going on. I spent some time and
I compiled a list of # of Named Tropical Systems since 1958.
As we can tell, the #'s to have trends, but since 1998, we have seen
the numbers stay in double digits. I do not believe in the Global
Warming theory though, but I do believe that we are in one of
those trends where, for a while, we'll see an above average # in Named
storms, but I would expect the #'s to even out in the future.
Lets just be greatful that most of the 19 storms did not hit us land.
Only a handful have hit US landfall.
If you look at the # of storms vs. US Landfall.
1961 to 1970: 83 storms - 14 Hit the US
1971 to 1980: 85 storms - 12 Hit the US
1981 to 1990: 97 storms - 15 Hit the US
1991 to 2000: 109 storms - 14 Hit the US
2001 to 2005: 77 storms - 14 Hit the US
Things could have been much worse than they are now!

Rita is now expected to strenghten as it crosses the Gulf of Mexico and is aiming to hit Galveston Texas.

I was watching The Weather Channel the other day and they said that hurricanes actually serve as global air conditioners. They are supposed to bring in cool weather.

Thunderstorms mix down cooler air from the upper levels of the atmosphere. Which in fact cools down the area surrounding the storm.
