Removing the spammer

Is there a way that an admin. can get rid of the spammer. It's annoying when every page seems to be updated by them. I've reported several posts and nothing has happened yet.

I hope all of the people on this site are smart enough to know all of these "4 free Six Flags tickets" things are scams

^ That has the potential to get really bad, really fast just making every member a moderator.
When you sign up for this site, do you have one of those you have to type a certain goofy word, so than a spam bot wouldn't be able to sign up for that?

^ That worked for a while. As anti-spam technology improves, so does spamming technology.

^That's not a bad idea. Whatever happned to the first 5 posts having to be approved by a admin or mod and your username being yellow?
Has spam ever been this frequent before? Or is it normally just a once in a while thing?
^ It seems to happen in waves. There won't be any for a while, and then there will be a bunch of spambots.
Totally; just like with the old member rating system it will be abused quickly, although with that I have seen forums that will automatically speedban someone who recieves [x] amount of negative ratings in a short amount of time, but I am fairly certain that isn't a phpBB feature.
