I baught an iPod mini awhile back, 6 GB which is perfect for me (I use about 5 gig) holds near 1,500 songs and has a backlight which is pretty much all I need. I also baught the iTrip (ripoff) which does what it says, but it's a pain in the ass. Also purchased a skin to project the covering but other than that nothing else.

Hey eagle fan, if you are in college, or pretty much have anything to do with education, you can get a discount for your ipod. You just go to apple.com and there's a thing on the right that says education discounts. A 30 GB is only $269 after the discount, and you get like $20 off a nano.

I will either get the iPod Nano (4 GB, $250) or the 30 GB iPod video ($300). I will use it mainly in the car and on road trips. Would be useful at parks on my vacation next yr since I will prolly be by myself some of the time.
The extra capacity for only $50 saves you, especially if you have a very large song collection (I have over 8,000 songs, and I'm still nowhere close to half way) and want to take some movies along with you.
In my opinion the Nano is just a stupid small thing thats a pathedic example of MP3's anywhere.
Eaglesfan, how many songs do you have? How many do you intend to ever have? in my opinion 250 for the 4gig Nano is too much...flash MP3 players in general are quite pricey.
I would reccomend the iPod Video (only since there is no more just plain old iPod), mainly because of all the space. If you're not using your iPod for music, you can use it as an external hard drive ... back up files, transfer large files to friends, or just store stuff on it. You're also getting a lot more your your buck. Not only do you get a music player, but you also get the ability to watch video's (any video with the help of some programs). Remember, always look to the future and the possibilty your music collection might grow. My music collection was 500mb's and then I scored an iPod for 150 off. It then grew to 15gb's. You're going to college, the entire school is networked, chances are you're going to be able to grab a lot of Mp3's off other people.
If your split between the Nano and the 30 gig video, go for the video. If your willing to pay for the 30 ... it's only 50 dollars more.
Oh by the way, Tell Apple your a student (show your Student ID) and you get a 10% discount!
As for the iPod accesories, I would suggest getting a case/skin for it because I don't think there is a metal on earth that scratches easier than the iPod's back. Seriously, I had mine for two weeks (my 1st iPod) and it looked like a took a grinder to the thing. Cases arn't that expensive. I wouldn't reccomend wasting your money on an iTrip either. Low quality in my opinion (I think woodland would agree too).

i have the ipod mini, bu they don't make that one anymore. I love it. I get to listen to it at work (i work in a boring office), and it makes the day go faster.
No iPods. Don't be a Zombie, don't fade into the crowd.
Creative Zen is where it's at. iPod is a rip-off from Creative's players. But Creative players also support Napster 2 Go, so you can have ANY song from the Napster library (more songs than iTunes) and pay only $14.99 per month. That's UNLIMITED. Plus... COLOUR. I don't want black or white UUUUUGLY players.
Plus, I've always preferred XM Satellite Radio myself, my Delphi MyFi is a GREAT portable for satellite. But... after CES, XMP3 (Pioneer Inno, Samsung Helix) will be around, and far better than what I'm using. (Better why? MP3 support, stronger internal antenna, bigger hard drive, colour screen, smaller size, etc.)
In fact, as far as portable music (or "MP3 players" as most of YOU refer to them, even though the many PMPs play .wma files, among others), you might want to look at what has been shown off at CES and (sigh) MacWorld (if you MUST be an iPerson). CES started yesterday, I think it's 4 or 5 days long.

While this is a semi-valid point, the biggest problem I have with Napster is the fact that if you stop paying your monthly fee, your tracks stop playing. With ITunes once you "purchase" the track, ( I use the term Purchase loosely) it will not stop playing until hell freezes over ( Or Bill Gates uses a Mac. Whichever comes first.)
