Actually, I'm not getting mad. I just don't understand why healthy working conditions should be granted to factory workers but not bartenders.

Sometimes, you just can't quit a job because of cigarette smoke. It has gotten to the point where every job allows smoking and people have to work to make a living. It isn't hard to take it outside if you need to smoke that badly, however, there is no reason why a smoker can't spend an hour out of his/her life not doing it. There are far worse laws to complain about than one that doesn't allow people to do drugs while others are eating. :?

I think that Dennis Leary said it best...

"I love to smoke, I love to smoke, I love to smoke. I smoke 7 THOUSAND packs a day, and I am never (censored) quitting, what's the law now, you can only smoke in your own house under the blankets with the lights turned off? COME OUT OF THE HOUSE LEARY WE KNOW YOU GOT THE CIGARETTES! You'll never catch me copper, I got a cigarette machine right in my bedroom! Get a clue, keep raising the price of the cigarettes, we will rob a bank to get 'em, It's a drug we're addicted OK!"

Seriously.....when did the non-smokers all of a sudden get all the rights? It used to be, you didn't like it, you left, but NOW you can't even smoke in the city limits of Baltimore (my father-in-law is a Baltimore city police officer) PERIOD. Not in the house, not with a mouse, not in the car, not in the bar, not on a train, and not in the rain....You cannot not smoke them here or there, you CANNOT SMOKE THEM ANYWHERE! (I have GOT TO stop reading Dr. Suess to my kids). I understand that people shouldn't be subjected to second hand smoke...but there are PLENTY of smoke-free places to go without the public ban. Why is it I have to freeze my butt off, or get VERY cranky without my nicotine!

^This will probably be my last post in this topic, that way I don't piss anyone else off. 8) However, what you are asking is for people to go away just so you can do something harmful. Sounds like a great idea. Either way, if you can't last the 1 HOUR it takes to eat, than I don't know what to tell you.

In your defense though, there is no reason to get rid of smoking in bars, I only see logic in this law when it comes to resteraunts.

It's here! American Heart Association had a full-page ad in the front section of the Tribune today. I think, so far, both smokers and non-smokers are willing to live with this. A lot of smokers do realize that smoking is bad for them and they might be trying to quit, so they see this as a good opportunity to quit. A family friend from the city is a smoker and I think this should help her quit.
