Last Call Fall Festival

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

Anyone else going? Will all the coasters be running do you think? Not sure if colder temperatures will keep any of them from being operational. I plan on going with my daughter even though its gonna be a cold one next weekend. Need to use those season passes one more time since we missed Fright Fest.

I plan on going closing day. All of the coasters (except Spacely's but...) were running on Halloween with temperatures in the mid-30's, so I'd imagine they'll all be running for Last Call too

If our 2017 season passes are still valid for this, I'll probably try to get there with the wife and/or kids at least once. Any chance to get some more rides in sounds good to me!

Temperature wise its supposed to be actually nice this weekend. There might be rain and storms, however. It's also apparently bring a friend free for the entire thing, so I wouldn't be surprised if the park is slammed.

My family was planning on visiting this weekend, but looks like plenty of rain over the next few days. We'll probably go next weekend instead. I'm interested to see how the crowds are - hopefully quite a bit less than Fright Fest. Clearly they Six Flags was predicting lower crowds by offering bring a friend for free for everyone.

I see that on my 2017 pass, but on the 2018 one, it is Bring a Friend Free.

^ Whiz, so you got a different physical pass for 2018 than 2017? That might explain why mine doesn't show up.
I have the same physical pass for the last 2-3 years. I do see some of the 2018 benefits though.

My logon is kind of messed up though: I have to reenter my pass number (all 20 digits) each time and re-register. It's kind of annoying actually, and since I work in I.T. it makes me wonder why they can't fix that!

Yes, I always get a new card. (May or may not be so I get double meals to share with the family during the overlap we are in now)

So if I get a new card this month for the 2018 season, I may be able to use this year's card and the new card for next year to get meals with both cards for the next couple weeks??

I've been able to do that the past few years. You just need to enter the park with each pass. You'd enter with one pass, exit the park and use the other pass to enter a second time. Depending on the worker, you may be able to scan both passes when you enter the first time, but I'm not sure.

Curious about any feedback of how attendance was today. Appreciate any insight to the crowds today for the event.

I'm not there, but the park is closing at 4, so that seems like a pretty good indication that nobody was there. That's probably more due to it raining all day than anything particular about the festival, though.

I really hope that doesn’t happen next weekend. I have a 4 hour drive. We are planning on going both days but still it would not be fun if they closed early.

I don't really have time for a full trip report, but it was seriously dead today. Here are some pictures...
Image
Nice new banner
Image
There are like no cars
Image
Spots open in the first row, right in front of the gate.
Image
Image
Image
Like everything from Fright Fest is down.
Image
Fun Machine is taken apart already.
Image
Bull's long line, with one train I may add.
Image
Awful picture, but Justice was walk on as well.
Image
County Fair was especially dead mostly because X-Flight was down for the whole time we were there.
Image
Demon shot, because why not.

Onto the Last Call stuff
Image
Image
Can't remember if that was there for Fright Fest or not.

Thanks for posting the pictures! It's about a 4.5 hour round trip for us, glad we did not make the trip for a 4 hour day. How was the weather at 4pm when they closed early? I saw a ton of angry comments on facebook from people who traveled far only to see the park close early for what they felt was due to attendance. Pretty poor experience for them. With no rain in the forecast next weekend, we'll be going. Did you happen to see any prices on the craft beer?

Not sure exactly how he weather was at 4,but from noon to 2:30, it was kind of this constant mist that continually lightened up. And yes, I did see the beer prices, but did not tack a picture, nor do I remember any prices. Jiggidy went yesterday as well, so here are a few more pictures, but I still didn't see any for beer.

Next weekend there is potential for snow. I realize that weather forecasts can change this far out, but if this truly is a test to see if HITP will work here...I just don't see it coming to fruition. The Chicago/Milwaukee markets already have plenty of holiday events that draw people and have so already for years.

It’s a bit more crowded today but stilI not bad. I did spot Jim Reid Anderson being escorted through the park earlier.

Kidzopolis was open on Saturday, but the only ride I think I saw anyone ride was Krazy Kars. The ops were just sitting there talking and waiting for people to come over. There were like o small kids in the park at all.

Went Sunday Nov 5th. Park was pretty empty - walked on a lot of rides, others with just a short wait. All kids areas were open and all kids rides were running. Most of the food places were open but a few were closed like Chopsix and the Go Fresh Cafe in Country Fair etc. Most of the eateries we saw were extremely under-staffed but it wasn't bad because there weren't many people there. Overall we had a good time and the event is a cool idea but needs work.

Food choices were sort-of blah and what we had, the quality was poor. I'm pretty sure it's the company that does the food service for the parks doing all the food for this - no outside places - and they just didn't do a good enough job. Also, about half of the beer tables weren't open at all so many of the beers weren't available for tasting. Most of the beer tables were staffed by SFGA employees who didn't know anything about the beers (or how to pour one for that matter). A couple were staffed by actual brewery workers that had good interaction with customers.

We saw the new show Ta-ra-ra Boom-de-ay in Southwest - your basic cabaret show with an embarass-the-husbands-in-the-crowd-making-them-dance-with-the-showgirls segment etc. We heard a bit of the Lumberjacks Wanted show while we were in Mooseburger warming up - they were doing the lumberjack song from Python. Other than that, for live entertainment they had a few terrible garage bands playing but no big deal - gotta get a gig somehow.

My advice is - go for the short lines, to try something new and get one last visit in before the snow - not the "taste" aspects. If you have the dining plan, maybe get one book to sample the beers and get your 3 free pasport credits for being a dining plan member, but otherwise plan on eating your meals off of the plan and skip most of the food - you won't be missing anything. Probably the best thing we had was the chili and at $8 it was pricey. The conewich sounded the best but just poorly executed (apple pie filling inside a lightly-sweetened bread cone with tasteless whip cream and someone forgot the cinnamon).

With so many taste events out there, I think this is a whif on what could be a good thing. The event was poorly advertised (just a couple signs in the park plus passholder anouncements and a small thing on the website). I bet most people don't even know about it. Should have handed out flyers at the parking kiosks starting in July or something. Also the food choices and quality left us feeling like we didn't get our money's worth (when you translate credits to dollars and realize you paid $10 for a small bag of nuts or $6 for 5 jalapeno poppers). They should have reached out to area restaurants and had them sponsor booths at this event. Would boost food quality, get some community interaction going and maybe create more of a buzz. They probably are locked into some long-term tying agreement with the food service company that prevents them doing this, which is sad. I think this could be a cool event but it just fell flat this year.

Here's the food options:

Southwest:
Hearty Bites: Steak Shish Kabobettes: 4cr, Korean BBQ Meatballs (Sam's club meatballs with sweet sauce and sesame seeds): 2cr
Southwest Cravings: Chili in bread bowl (not bad but small for $8): 4cr, Stuffed Jalapeno Poppers (basic but good): 3cr, Potaco (fairly good - basically a loaded potato skin): 2cr
German Taste: Grilled Bratwurst: 4cr, Currywurst: 3cr

Yukon
Sugar Rush: Roasted Nuts (small for $10): 5cr, Hot Apple Conewich (OK but needs cinnamon/flavor): 3cr, Cheese and Crackers (boring): 2cr
Midwest Delights: Fried Mac&Cheese Bites (OK): 3cr, Breaded Cheese Curds: 3cr, Buffalo Mac&Cheese (good pasta, chicken terrible - canned chicken with hot sauce): 3cr
Chicago Bites: Pulled Pork Slider: 2cr, Italian Beef Slider: 2cr

Beer samples were 1cr and a full-sized pour was 5cr
