Best US Coaster of the Decade 2010- 2013

Talk about anything that has to do with the amusement park industry here.
Postby Galvan on October 3rd, 2013, 12:56 am
We are nearly 4 years into this new decade. And I was curious what has been your favorite US based coaster of the time period of 2010- 2013.

Goliath (SFGAm) unfortunately does not count, Nor does King’s Islands new Banshee (yet anyway) But let’s hear what your favorite coaster of the new decade is.

Notable US 2010 Coasters:

Intimidator – Carowinds
Intimidator I-305 – Kings Dominion
Sky Rocket – Kennywood
Little Dipper – Six Flags Great America

Notable US 2011 Coasters:

Zippin Pippin- Bay Beach
Cheetah Hunt – Busch Gardens Tampa
Green Lantern – Six Flags Great Adventure
Green Lantern: First Flight – Six Flags Magic Mountain
Dare Devil Dive – Six Flags over Georgia
New Texas Giant - Six Flags over Texas

Notable US 2012 Coasters:

Verbolten – Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Wild Eagle – Dollywood
Stinger – Dorney Park
SkyRush – Hershey Park
Manta – Sea World San Diego
Superman: Ultimate Flight – Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
Goliath – Six Flags New England
X-Flight – Six Flags Great America

Notable US 2013 Coasters:

Gold Striker- California’s Great America
Gatekeeper – Cedar Point
Outlaw Run – Silver Dollar City
Iron Rattler – Six Flags Fiesta Texas
Full Throttle – Six Flags Magic Mountain

For me, it’s really easy. X-Flight, the ride at least to me anyway is absolutely incredible. I haven’t gotten a chance to ride Outlaw Run yet, and I want to, but out of this list and this is a sample of the rides of the decade in the US. X-Flight takes it.

You forgot to mention New Texas Giant which to me was phenomenal. X-Flight and Cheetah Hunt which were the other new ones to me were pretty great themselves.

You know, you are right, I missed that one on RCDB.

I thought it was 2009 for some reason.

Did you still take your Honeymoon in Florida? If so, how did you like Busch Gardens and Cheetah Hunt?

in my opinion, Kumba is the best coaster in the park. Some elements of Cheetah Hunt were "meh", but I did love the constant twisting low to the ground over the old Rhino Rally river.

Yep, the whole park has a nice vibe to it. Just having coasters and a zoo in one park is just freakin' awesome. Only thing they lack is the flat ride selection.

Tough call. I305, New Texas Giant, Iron Rattler, or Outlaw Run would be my guess. Have only been on two of those so I can't say for sure.

How does Little Dipper, Goliath, and Green Lantern count? Those rides were built in 1950, 2001, and 1997 respectively.

Pretty simple,

They where new rides for the seasons in this discussion, which in my book means they should be included.

Any other questions?

Cheetah Hunt is that odd ride that is terrible at night and a ton of fun during the day.

I'd also add White Lighting to the list from Fun Spot. The ride, more than anything, was showing how serious Fun Spot is about becoming an alternative in the Orlando market. And it's nice to have a good wooden coaster in the south again.

X-Flight is fun, but for my money, Outlaw Run is king so far!

Xflight for me too! I have ridden Outlaw Run. It's downright terrifying, but a bit painful, and doesn't have instant reridability, like XFlight does. I should get to try gatekeeper next year though.
Cheetah Hunt is my favorite family coaster I have ridden. No doubt another 5-10 mph out of that launch would take it to a thrill level though. I like Montu and Sheikra better though.

I 305 at Kings Dominion was just OK. I rode from row 4 and the blackout problem was for real before the reprofile. Skyrush is too painful. Rode both of these their opening year, and very short lines, so I am not alone in my assessment.

Green Lantern at Great Adventure was ok, but Riddlers Revenge still remains the only stand up that I actually like.
Verbolten was randomly closed last year the day I was there, which was the whole point of going there in the first place!

Outlaw Run easily. X Flight holds my number two overall spot, but Outlaw completely blows it out of the water.

New Texas Giant as well as Full Throttle

Both have extreme airtime and very comfortable restraints.

Wild Eagle and Gatekeeper were major disappointments. Both of the rides were giant, forceless, transition-less, and had non creative layouts. I heard a few people say "you just need to ride it on a good day", but that still wouldn't change anything.

Sky Rocket surprised me a lot. I wasn't expecting too much while waiting in line, but the ride was pretty great.

Intimidator 305 is probably my favorite of the new decade. Honestly, X-Flight is better than gatekeeper

Jesus I'm late... but I have to say either Skyrush Or Intimidator 305 for their nonstop intensity. Skyrush also has a beautiful setting, second to none ejector air, and just amazing experience, my only complaint is the restraints. While I305 has no complaints from me, definitely one of the mos if not THE most intense coaster ever!
Some time, on way to successful, first of steps of all of the steps to being successful steps are hardest of all of the steps to successing.
