Great America may add new coaster in 2011.

Announcements & News From The Homepage

A large standing roller coaster could be relocated to Great America from another Six Flags theme park. Details are few as park officials maintain "nothing is for sure," but the wheels appear to be turning.

On May 26, Great America received a unanimous favorable recommendation from the Gurnee Zoning Board of Appeals to exceed the 125-foot height restriction for the construction of a new 150-foot coaster. The ride is proposed for the park's Space Port area near the main entrance. The site was formerly home to Space Shuttle America, which closed after the 2007 season.

"This is our first major thrill ride proposed since Superman in 2003," said Hank Salemi, park president.

It's also the first time Great America has asked for a height variance since adding the 205-foot tall Raging Bull in 1999.

Shockwave the Sequel? I just lol'd

How is it the first time asking for a height variance since 1999? Not only did V2 get approved for both of it's two needed height variances, it opened in 2001.

might want to post another news story on the front page. I can't believe this is still the latest one because we're not getting a coaster in 2011.

dang that would have been totally awesome if we got Chang but looks like its going to SF Great Adventure.. sorry a new coaster is long over due the waterpark doesn't need more new stuff since it is the "NEW THING" and doesn't need more new things until the Theme Park gets another thrill ride/coaster. . i'm bummed.. don't really care for the waterpark cause i live 1 1/2 hrs from wisconsin dells i can go there anytime. . six flags is like a one year if not every few year trip for me.. oh well.. maybe in a few years we will get another new coaster..

it's been said once, twice, a hundred times. Great America is in no way, in need of 15 Roller Coasters
