What do you think they are going to say..little thrills coming? No thrills coming? It's a generic sign parks put up.

I'd think they wouldnt say anything.

It's obvious they're demolishing something and have an area blocked off. If there's no sign at all, maybe people walk by and see a temporary fence with no explanation and it just looks bad. Through Big Thrills sign, even though WE know it's just a generic thing, just tells the public that, yes, don't worry, something new is coming here at some point.

I think the reason that Six Flags is pushing people into Memberships is what I call the "health club phenomenon": People sign up and pay their monthly dues. They get billed every month. Many people stop going but don't cancel the membership for quite some time. So Six Flags gets a monthly revenue from non-active members!

The many reasons for the membership push were explained in detail in the Q1 conf call. The biggest were ahigher retention rate than passes, members spend more, and buy dining passes at a higher rate.

To me the most important aspects of Gold Season Pass are: unlimited visits at all parks, free parking, the free days and discounted days for friends, the Coasters After Dark. I like things simple and it seems that the Membership pricing structure and its tiers are too complex.

Exclsive ride events, ie...Coasters After Dark are a membership benefit in the chart. They surely will grandfather people in that bought gold passes last year before the benefits changes. Other gold pass perk are also being moved to memberships.

CoasterRiderSC wrote:Also I don't buy too much merchandise at the park and I already have the Season Dining Pass (I had it last year and my big complaint was the wait times for food!).

Dining benefits have changed in the new configuration that make membership worthwhile.
Deluxe dining passes have free upgrade to premium(something they always do even non flash sale) for $93. However the drink bottle is no longer included like before as a bonus. A pass holder with a dining pass must buy a bottle at full price of $30. So dining and a bottle will cost $123

In contrast a member gets a 20% up to 50% discount on dining plans...so gold member can get a premium dining pass for $749$1 more than flash sale last year). Gold member gets a 25% discount on a bottle making it $22.50...so they dining and a bottle for $94.50 ($ 29 saving than being a gold pass member). The higher levels of members get drinks included

Summary:
Gold pass $96, prem dining $92, bottle $30.total $218 (flash sale pass $65, dine $73, free bottle...total $138)
Gold member $ 86, prem dining $74, bottle $22.50 ...total $183
Plat member $ 110, prem dining $70, bottle free ......total $180
Diamond mem $146, prem dining $60, bottle free......total $206

Don't see them offering such big flash sale discounts on passes with the push towards memberships. Anybody buying now and getting dining the Platinum membership is the obvious choice.

According to this link: https://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica/s ... ing-passes, you still get a Sports Bottle when you buy the Deluxe Dining Pass (which they upgrade you to Premium), which then makes the price to buy gold pass and dining at $188!!!

SF is in weird transition phase with the membership tiers coming out this spring, thus some benefits are over lapping from the old gold pass and dining structure. A lot of grandfathering is going on. The person I talked to at SF said this will be reconciled when 2019 passes/memberships go on sale.

So, Gold pass and dining at $188, still makes gold member a better deal at $183 and platinum member the best deal at $180. You can get a lot more benefits for $8 less

I'm not getting the same numbers when comparing passes/memberships. Assuming I want the following:

1) Unlimited park access (1-3 people).
2) Unlimited parking.
3) Season Dining.
4) Season sports bottle.

I come up with this annual pricing:

Season Pass, Gold: $139 (Labor Day Sale)
Membership, Platinum: $203
Membership, Gold Plus: $209
Membership, Diamond: $229
Membership, Diamond Elite: $285

For me, the Gold Pass is the best deal. However, if the additional *benefits* of membership are thrown into the mix, I could see where others could come to a different conclusion: parking isn't the same parking for each option, "skip the line" passes are available for some of the memberships, special queues to enter the park, etc. If you add a season Flash Pass and Fright Fest wristband to all of the options, the numbers for the Gold Pass and Diamond Elite membership converge, but DE would give you a lot more perks.

Of course, this all assumes that Six Flags will still have a Labor Day sale in 2019. If not, my cost to attend the park will increase, but I don't see any additional benefits from membership that I'll want to use. This would be disappointing.

Went back to double check things made error on % discounts and put in 1-3 people. Then rounded up the numbers. All dining currently free upgrade and bottle.

Gold Season (2017 Flash Sale) $65 dining $73 = $138(from my confirmation email last fall)
Gold Season(Now) - $96 dining $93 = $189
Member Gold Plus - $8.40/mth - $110yr dining $74(Gold Plus 20% discount from $93) = $184
Member Platinum - $10.40/mth - $125yr dining $70(Platinum 25% discount from $93) = $195
Member Diamond- $13.40/mth - $161yr dining $60(Diamond 35% discount from $93) = $221
Member Diam Elite $19.40/mth - $233yr dining $47(Diam-Elite 50% discount from $93)= $280

I think you're supposed to use the Member Dining Plan with memberships, not the Season Dining Pass:

https://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica/s ... ber-dining

If you use the numbers from this page, you get:

Season Pass, Gold (Labor Day): $139 = Pass $66 + Dining $73
Membership, Platinum: $203 = Membership $125 + Dining $79 ($6.55/mo)
Membership, Gold Plus: $209 = Membership $101 + Dining $108 ($8.99/mo)
Membership, Diamond: $229 = Membership $161 + Dining $68 ($5.65/mo)
Season Pass, Gold (Now): $251 = Pass $158 + Dining $93
Membership, Diamond Elite: $285 = Membership $233 + Dining $52 ($4.35/mo)

Note that there is no additional discount on the Member Dining Plan.

This new membership was put in a wrong time. Many people got their gold passes and here comes something new and people have to pay more money and are relatively confused.
How come Lightning Rod is never open when I go.

Top 10: 1. El Toro 2. Steel Vengeance 3. I305 4. Fury 325 5. Maverick 6. Mako 7. Iron Rattler 8. Medusa Steel Coaster 9. Raptor Clones 10. Maxx Force.

I agree. To me it's another sign of poor planning by SF corporate. If they wanted to push people to memberships, why not roll it out last September? It's not like the concept of memberships at SF was brand new. I get that it's a money maker for SF so they should roll it out whenever it was/is ready, but it still feels off to me.

What's interesting is that ALL three levels of the MEMBER Dining Plan are good at ALL Six Flags parks.

Plus Platinum and up get the sports bottle, so you don't need the premium dining plan

I am crunching the numbers now! The Gold Pass is current $96.

Current price of the Gold Pass is $95 which makes a total of $189 if you add Dining.

https://www.sixflags.com/greatamerica/s ... son-passes

Season Passes still seem like a better deal, unless you are about the preferred parking and skip the line passes.

If they keep doing Labor Day Flash Sales on season passes like they do, then that will always be the better deal!

The land being cleared is some of the best real estate in the park, they'd be dumb to not have something interact with sky trek. Like what cedar fair did with Gold Striker at CGA.

Sadly that's what we are looking at. If only Six Flags actually bought the land across the highway and space wouldn't be a issue.

Space is not an issue. SF has space now and they could make more by better planning and relocating offices, maintenance, the employee lot, etc...

Six Flags owned all that land for years and got rid of it. Back in the late 90’s that’s where the water park and entertainment village was proposed to go. They intended it to be a resort type of experience kinda like what universal is in Florida. Sadly they couldn’t get approval for a pedestrian bridge over the tollway so nothing ever came to fruition.

What they need to do is build a parking garage in half the back lot. That would enable them to start using land from the front lot and possibly move entrance further out or even just build around it on the sides.

^ Well then they should have done something like Six Flags Over Texas did. Both the main park and Hurricane Harbor aren't connected rather then they actually are close to each other by a distance. A parking garage would be nice since my parent's car wouldn't be so hot  .

I've always wanted them to build a sky ride to get across the street :D Since they probably wouldn't be able to do that, they could always pull a Kentucky Kingdom and have a road with a crosswalk surrounded by the park.
1.) Steel Vengeance 2.) Maverick 3.) Goliath (SFGAM) 4.) Top Thrill Dragster 5.) Mystic Timbers
Ragin Cajun and Iron Wolf went from Six Flags Great America to Six Flags America. I guess they weren't GREAT anymore.

We've been over this before. Six Flags has no interest in expanding the park, or cramming in new rides. You ever notice how pretty much every they put in a ride, they take one out, too, even if they could have fit both rides in? Adding additional rides is just going to cost them more money without making them a lot more money, so don't ever expect it to happen.

This could be for any Six Flags park in the country. There is a recent trademark filing for something called ADRENALINE ALLEY.
