Six Flags is a lot more even when it comes to capital investments at different parks, having 10 of their 13 parks getting at least 1 major capital investment in the past few years(or 77%). But when they do get a capital investment, it's usually something that already exists, or is relatively cheap. As for Cedar Fair, they tend to go bigger and better for their capital investments by getting a massive roller coaster put in at one of their parks. However, this limits it to 1 coaster a year, leaving only 3 new coasters in the chain in the past 3 years. And with that, the smaller parks are even more neglected than Six Flags' counterparts. Great Escape got a new thrill ride plus 2 different water park additions, whereas Michigan's Adventure only got a kiddie splash pad and a petting zoo in the past 3 years. Very sad.
So really, unless your home park is one of Cedar Fair's 'Top [strike]5[/strike] [strike]4[/strike] 3', then Six Flags is better both business-wise, and in consistency.

Six Flags installed the first ever RMCs and 2nd topper track(Goliath), the first Arrow 4D and S&S free spins and the only Intamin Zacspin in the US, the first announced B&M wing for US(X-Flight), and the Premier LSM launch coasters. The interpretation of the list was let's say interesting ans purely SF biased. The 2011 to present analysis of SF given earlier tells the actual story on SF. As I said before people pretend that CF is worse b/c they are at a park GAm that has been a beneficiary from the SF inequality. Btw, the 5th CF park has gotten better stuff than the top of SF. The fact is 4D's are a family "coaster" SF pretends is a thrill ride. S&S markets it on their site as a family coaster. Justice league another ride that appeals to kids, not a thrill ride. Btw, the "only 3 coasters" in 3 years by CF, are all great coasters, better than anything SF has got and will get b/c they don't believe in building big coasters. SF has essentially got it's customer base resigned to the fact that no big coasters are coming, so they get ecstatic over a family coaster, a 4D.
Except the list was overall park investments not "high end thrills".
And of course there's going to be a bias on this board. It's a board for an SF park. Go to KI Central and guess what? They'll be biased to Cedar Fair. That's how it works.
From 2011-2016 SF has added 1 Premier, 7 RMCs and 1 B&M in 7 parks. MM and G-Am got more than one high thrill ride in the timespan.
In that same time period CF has added 5 B&Ms in 4 parks. Cedar Point was the only park to get 2 high thrill rides.

But when they do get a capital investment, it's usually something that already exists, or is relatively cheap. As for Cedar Fair, they tend to go bigger and better for their capital investments by getting a massive roller coaster put in at one of their parks. However, this limits it to 1 coaster a year, leaving only 3 new coasters in the chain in the past 3 years. And with that, the smaller parks are even more neglected than Six Flags' counterparts. Great Escape got a new thrill ride plus 2 different water park additions, whereas Michigan's Adventure only got a kiddie splash pad and a petting zoo in the past 3 years. Very sad.
So really, unless your home park is one of Cedar Fair's 'Top [strike]5[/strike] [strike]4[/strike] 3', then Six Flags is better both business-wise, and in consistency.

If we're still comparing CP to SFGAm, then 2015 was an enthusiast-only year for CP, and a family/kiddie year for SFGAm, 2016 was another enthusiast-based year for CP, and an all-round year for SFGAm, and 2017 is a family year for CP and a more enthusiast year for SFGAm. Cedar Point gets 1 family year, and SFGAm gets 2. Guess who gets more families? Exactly. Six Flags' current system works great for them, so there's no need to add in a giant 15 million dollar B&M for every park if a 7 million Justice League ride works just as well.

Six Flags is a lot more even when it comes to capital investments at different parks, having 10 of their 13 parks getting at least 1 major capital investment in the past few years(or 77%). But when they do get a capital investment, it's usually something that already exists, or is relatively cheap. As for Cedar Fair, they tend to go bigger and better for their capital investments by getting a massive roller coaster put in at one of their parks. However, this limits it to 1 coaster a year, leaving only 3 new coasters in the chain in the past 3 years. And with that, the smaller parks are even more neglected than Six Flags' counterparts. Great Escape got a new thrill ride plus 2 different water park additions, whereas Michigan's Adventure only got a kiddie splash pad and a petting zoo in the past 3 years. Very sad.
So really, unless your home park is one of Cedar Fair's 'Top [strike]5[/strike] [strike]4[/strike] 3', then Six Flags is better both business-wise, and in consistency.

Cedar Point gets 1 family year, and SFGAm gets 2. Guess who gets more families? Exactly. Six Flags' current system works great for them, so there's no need to add in a giant 15 million dollar B&M for every park if a 7 million Justice League ride works just as well.

On your family logic brings more money, look at the financials. CF has the same revenues of 1.2B with about 3.5M less visitors. RMC's are conversion not new coasters and they are just rethemed, repainted trains, etc...The reason SF does them is they are cheap. They don't want to spend on new coasters, thus the low cost conversions and 4D family coasters. When SF starts building Giga's and Dives they can compete with CF. SF strategy high volume and less per customer. It's why they have 3.5 more visitors and the same revenue as CF. It's a strategy that long term will bring low end rides like we have seen for years and more crowded parks.

Outside of the top 4 parks, Cedar Fair doesn't do too good of a job getting the smaller parks some larger attractions. No new coasters, only 2 thrill rides, 1 dark ride. The rest were mainly slide complexes, Planet Snoopy expansions, and used fairground flat rides. Pretty terrible, actually.
Oh, also, Cedar Fair closed one of their properties. I also forgot to include Gilroy Gardens in the new attraction listings.

Some other CF parks did get coasters, in fact 3, but you didn't bother to look things up.
Guy With A Stick, your hours of work are invaluable. Definitely a great idea to focus on the parks that are not top 4 in their respective chains. bbd claims RMC conversions are not actually new coasters, which is stupid, as with the possible exception of Texas Giant, every RMC conversion has literally removed an old coaster and replaced it with a new coaster that has an entirely different layout and has inversions.
Without RMC, Six Flags would be doing absolutely awful and would likely have only built one high thrill coaster per year if that. But with RMC coasters and RMCs manufacturing the 4Ds, Six Flags has certainly made Discover Kingdom more exciting for guests to return to than CGA for example. If you only want to ride Giga and dive coasters, I suggest you donate $100 million to Six Flags for that express purpose.
Admittedly Great America needs a high speed coaster, but I can guarantee you almost every enthusiast, which is the only group bbd seems to care about, doesn't view lame ass Raging Bull as the main reason to visit our park, but rather our nearly unmatched collection of soon to be 5 thrilling alternate position coasters and our 3 great wooden coasters, one of which is ranked the 8th best coaster overall in the US by Coasterbuzz members.
