Forgive me but I may be drunk offa discounted easter candy, how can making people wait in line increase revenue? It seems like if your walking from ride to ride, you'll have more time to go out and get some food or a beer or a plushie for your sweety who won't stop nagging in your ear because your there instead of what she classifies as fun?
Also, since all I know is what my limited brain can hold, if you have X amount of people in line and you are sending the trains out at 100% capacity, isn't that more efficient from a maintenance standpoint than sending the train at 80% and having to run it 20% more for the extra people thus saving you money on wear and tear?

Technically yes, but it seems like they would end up sending the same amount of trains throughout the day regardless of how many people are on them. At least at Great America, big attractions like this tend to close the lines early since the line in the queue will end up lasting until park close anyway. Now the dependent variable is capacity instead of number of trains. 
This is absolutely against Great America's policy. I have only seen it happen once, and it was quickly corrected. Any employee caught closing a line early would face disciplinary action. They are clearly instructed to never close the lines until the closing spiel plays. repiV

I personally havent. From what I understand its usually only lasts about 2 hours after closing. I have also heard that it tends to be rather crowded and you are usually only able to get 1-2 rides in. This may vary depending on the time of year.......but im really not sure. I usually only make it down to Great America once or twice a summer (I live in Central Wisconsin). I try to pick a day in late August for sure because usually you can get a good 2 hours of ride time in after the sun sets. And i ALWAYS get a flash pass......so I get way more rides in, its still dark, and I dont have to wait in lines
I did the August one last year, and man, it was jam packed. I got 4 rides in the 3 hours it was going on. I started with Superman only because I was the closest to it at 7:45 and got really close to the entrance, and then went to Raging Bull after seeing everything else was a hour wait or more. Bull was a 30 - 45 minute wait, so I did that a couple times then Viper. It was fun, but it wasn't like you could just run and get back on. I had heard the May one was like that, but they aren't doing a May Coasters After dark this year, just June and August.
^ The one in May 2011 was awesome. All the other ones I've been to were packed and miserable. I just refer to them as "Lines After Dark"

I know other people answered, but how the lines are is that it feels like 2 pm, or 3pm but at night. And part of the reason is because so many rides and shows are closed down at night. Only the roller coasters and maybe Giant Drop / King Chaos are open. The other thing is that CAD is a perk to season pass holders, and they want to take advantage of it. Also, some people might think well the park is open so many hours today compared to another day, so why shouldn't I go that day. People that live nearby might just come at night because it's open so late - like October. Just expect to wait like during the day when going to a CAD event. An extra 2 hours of 2 pm lines. Though, one of the CAD days I went in June maybe, and it really didn't feel that bad during the day, and than people started piling in at night, or just as I said a lot of stuff to do / than just coasters & 2 flats open. Plus, you have to remember that people wait in lines for food stuff / shops that takes a lot of people, but I didn't think many of those places were open at night. Every little thing at the park makes a 30,000 crowd of people not feel like 30,000 people. Or if you lose a leg, you can't ride much of anything. Cherish what you have now.
Forget that... I'll just go next month, during the week and get my 9 in a row in Whizzer, 7 on Eagle, etc., may even try out Raging Bull again
 Don't even have to leave my seat on days like that - who's in?Last summer, me and a friend went to Mt. Olympus coasters after dark - and boy o boy it was awful. But that is starting with probably the worst run park EVAR as it is.. Thank god for Cyclops.

I like it, but don't love it. I'm one of a rare breed of coaster geeks that will pick most other coasters over a B&M. They just don't do much for me; so many are so darn similar. If I had to pick my favorite B&M at Great America, I would probably pick Superman because of the lift and pretzel loop. But most of the time, I would just assume not doing that ridiculous walk to get to it.
I really do LOVE Apollo's Chariot and Griffon, though. And Kumba! But I'll ride Demon, Whizzer, Eagle, Cajun, etc. over most of the B&Ms at Great America. Just done them so many times... and they have nearly identical brethren at most parks. When I was at Six Flags Over Georgia last spring for 4 days, I rode Mind Bender over 80 times and Goliath once (rode it 2 times in 2007). Same thing at Carowinds, rode Intimidator once. They have a GREAT mine train there!
I'll have to agree on some points with you. I like Raging Bull, but hate the walk and the line. When we went last Fright Fest they had the mid course trim off and it was a hell of a ride at night. I mean it was flipping Flying. I really loved that one ride. Of course I would rather ride AE and Viper because I'm a huge fan of the rickityness and wild ride that they can sometimes produce. We're going to SFSTL in May and I can't wait to get on Boss and American Thunder as it will be my 1st time on both. I do like the B&M suspendeds too and as a matter of fact I have a job interview at Clermont Steel in Ohio next week. Can't wait. 5 and a half hours from my house, but we are thinking about moving to Cinci for my wife's new job.

This one was on a Friday iirc, and there was bad weather threatening. This kept the crowds away and it didn't start raining until the park ultimately closed that night. I think I walked right in and got 7 in a row on Eagle and at least a half dozen rides on any other coaster I rode (can't remember which ones I did ride). I do remember riding Demon, and I think I was the only one on the train a few times. Not a bad way to spend a night after work. The rest of the CAD nights were fairly crowded.
I think I got tainted because I started to visit other parks. Raging Bull to me is supposed to an airtime machine, but I just see the flaws in it. The first drop has good airtime, but there are so many places on it where it's just nothing special to me. People complain about that trim brake, but the reason I don't like the ride is because a bunch of the ride, the track is on it's side, and it ruins airtime moments. I seriously feel greater airtime moments on the Dark Knight coaster. As for other parks, I get better airtime on Blue Streak (CP), Gemini, Screamin' Eagle, Great American Scream Machine (SFOG), Georgia Cyclone (SFOG), Goliath (SFOG), Superman (SFA), Thunderhawk (Dorney Park), Shockwave (SFOT), Diamondback, etc. It doesn't matter to me if a coaster is the tallest, fastest whatever in the park because it all depends on how the ride feels to me. I can clearly say that in my opinion Gemini beats Millennium Force at Cedar Point for the reasons I stated before. Millennium Force though is a packed ride at Cedar Point, and part of the reason is because it's one of the tallest coasters there, and everyone has to ride it. Sadly, I think non-enthusiasts rather ride roller coasters that are more tame than not. People at Six Flags Over Texas seem to love Titan, and that's the same type of coaster as Millennium Force, and Raging Bull. And that's different from a summer day how? Other than it being past their curfew.
Getting back on topic, X-Flight's Flash Pass will be the same as X2 at Magic Mountain. It will only be available on Platinum, and even with Platinum, it will still be an extra add-on and you can only ride once.

Wow, if they do that - that is lame. I guess the Xtreme Pass with it's Exit passes are looking like a better deal. By ride once, you mean once a day, or once then get your ass off the ride? 
^ You get to ride once, period. You do not get your platinum reride, and you can not reserve X-Flight again. If you want to ride again, you will have to wait in line.
