For those who have worked at Great America

Talk about anything that has to do with Six Flags Great America and Hurricane Harbor here.

I always wanted to work at the park when I was younger. However, the fact that I live an hour away made it impossible. So, I was wondering what it is really like.

Does the park offer any full time seasonal positions during the summer?
What is the hourly rate?
Are the hours steady or are you promised a minimum only to be disappointed?
What % off do you get in park?
Are you paid weekly?

I don't remember the employee discount amount, but it is only on merchandise. You still pay full price for food, and you are not allowed to play games.

So with a 35% discount, that brings prices down to normal retail and food. :D
I finally retired the Sarah Palin signature because she is now 100% irrelevant.

That is a good job to have during the summer. Much better than part time retail jobs at the mall. About how far do you have to live for it to make sense to work at the park?

Well if I can see the park out my window, I think I'm too far.

Ok, I think the longest legitimate distance would be about 30-45 minutes, so Chicago Suburbs, Arlington Heights, Mt Prospect, etc.

Also kind if depends on what you're driving. If you drive a truck, an hour each way with gas may not balance out.
You also get free entry to the park and a buddy pass to bring a friend anytime you go.

I think the merchandise use to be a 50% discount between 2001-2003. We didn't have a food discount.. only the employee cafeteria, which couldn't be used on your off day.

Wow after hearing some of these things, I am glad I live far enough where the option of choosing to work there is diminished. No playing games, minimum wage, no food during off days, and being on call, thanks for letting us know what it's really like

I live in Chicago and this honestly hasn't deteriorated any of my ambitions of working at the park. It may not be perfect but I just like the atmosphere in general.

It seems like the other side always wins on American Eagle :?
Also, I've ridden Goliath 23 times in one day. HBU? :P

As a 16 year old that can't get a job, any money sounds great. But in all seriousness is there a minimum working age?

15 at SFGAm....but positions and hours able to work is very restricted. 15 is the yellow name tag, 16-17 are orange tags, and white are 18+.

Sfgam no longer employs 15 year olds.

They haven't started accepting applications yet. The best time to apply is usually February or March.
